The Pumpkin Star Place Mat is a quilted seasonal décor project from American Patchwork & Quilting, not a ready-made placemat. Its free pattern includes materials, cutting instructions, assembly, and finishing directions. The completed mat measures 12½ × 18½ inches, with a 12-inch-square finished pumpkin-star block.
What the Pumpkin Star pattern makes
The design centers an orange-print pumpkin in a star block. Green and cream Flying Geese units and cream squares complete the block; gray floral rectangles extend its sides into the place-mat top. The maker then quilts the layered top, batting, and backing and binds the edges.

How the construction works
- Piece the pumpkin body from orange prints and add its stem.
- Make Flying Geese units from green and cream fabrics. Join these with cream squares to form the pumpkin-star block.
- Add gray floral side rectangles to complete the place-mat top.
- Layer the top with batting and backing, baste the layers, and quilt as desired.
- Bind the edges with the gray print.
