Portage’s city-published plan identifies three Portage Road segments: Lancelot to Lakeview in 2026, Lakeview to Forest in estimated 2027 work, and Forest to Centre in estimated 2028 work. Separately, a Portage Road construction phase from Bacon Avenue to South Shore Drive was active in 2026, with substantial completion scheduled for November, weather and materials permitting.
When is Portage Road construction happening?
The City of Portage’s Lake Center District progress page lays out this sequence for its design-plan segments:
| Year shown | Segment | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Lancelot to Lakeview | Listed as the 2026 segment |
| 2027 | Lakeview to Forest | Estimated |
| 2028 | Forest to Centre | Estimated |
The later segments are estimates, not guaranteed construction dates. The city’s construction page says schedules depend on weather and material availability. City of Portage construction updates and Lake Center District progress updates provide the relevant status and segment labels.
Which part of Portage Road is under construction in 2026?
The city’s construction update, marked October 2, 2026, describes Portage Road 360 Phase 1 from Bacon Avenue to South Shore Drive. This is a separate active construction phase from the Lancelot-to-Lakeview segment sequence shown on the progress page; the city pages use different project framings and endpoints.

Work and schedule in the October 2 update
The city listed an April 2026 construction start, November 2026 scheduled substantial completion, and an estimated construction cost of $4,500,000. As of its October 2 update, the contractor was adjusting manhole castings and preparing for final paving. Trail paving was scheduled for October 3, and west-side roadway paving was tentatively scheduled for October 10, weather permitting. Those paving dates are the city’s dated schedule, not confirmation that the work occurred on those dates.
What the phase includes
- A three-lane road section with curb and gutter.
- Completion of the storm sewer.
- A 10-foot trail on the east side and a 5-foot sidewalk on the west side.
- Sewer leads to properties that lacked service.
- Traffic signals at Woodbine Avenue and South Shore Drive.
What is the broader corridor plan?
The city’s Streets & Sidewalks 24-30 project page describes the Portage Road/Lake Center Corridor project as a 2024–2028 undertaking from Centre Street to Osterhout. That broader corridor limit differs from the endpoints in the progress page’s phase sequence, so the two descriptions should not be treated as a single, perfectly matching list of contract limits.
