Photon Matrix Lab currently lists a portable laser mosquito defense system for pre-order and says it can detect and eliminate mosquitoes. The claim is the manufacturer’s, not an independently verified result for this consumer device. Its listed infrared model scans a 90-degree sector at ranges up to 6 meters; it is not an all-around, proven replacement for conventional mosquito control.
What the portable laser system claims to do
Photon Matrix Lab describes a system combining LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, a vision module and a laser to detect and eliminate mosquitoes. The company lists the infrared model at $988 and marks it “Pre Order.” Its store says dispatch is expected within 120 days after payment confirmation; price, availability and delivery estimates can change. See the Photon Matrix listing.
The manufacturer specifies an effective range of up to 6 meters within a 90-degree horizontal fan-shaped scan. It says the device targets flying insects 2–20 mm in size moving at speeds up to 1 m/s. These are product specifications, not results from an independent consumer-device test. Photon Matrix product details.
Coverage and versions
The company’s FAQ says one unit covers a 90-degree sector, not 360 degrees, and recommends multiple units for wider coverage. The infrared version is described for indoor use; a blue-light option, which emits visible flashes, is described for outdoor environments. Photon Matrix FAQ.

Whether you’re relaxing in the garden, cooking in the kitchen, camping under the stars, or just sleeping in your bedroom, it’s the ideal all-weather partner for keeping bugs at bay.
Does the mosquito laser actually kill mosquitoes?
Photon Matrix says its system eliminates mosquitoes, but the evidence available for this specific portable product is the manufacturer’s description. A peer-reviewed study does report laser-based mosquito interception, but it tested a different, field-scale research system called the Photonic Fence—not Photon Matrix.
In a 2024 field-scale experiment published in Scientific Reports, researchers reported recovery of 38.3% of released Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in a monitoring-only control, compared with 0.86% in a laser-enabled test. The authors also reported interception at distances up to 30 meters. Those figures describe that experiment and its setup; they do not establish the performance of a bedroom-size consumer device. - Mosquito control efficiency increased by 100%: AMUFER mosquito repellent outdoor patio passed 3612 kinds of mosquito light induction tests and 22368 times of mosquito electric shock experiments. 4400V voltage, grid area increased by 30%, electric shock speed enhanced by 0.01 seconds each time, super high-voltage high-frequency electric shock efficiency so that the mosquitoes and insects have nowhere to escape.
- Coverage of 1/2 acre, efficient trapping: AMUFER's biological team developed a more powerful 18W blue-violet bulb, covering an area that can range up to 1/2 acre. Fly zapper with a unique 330nm-420nm UVA wavelength design, efficiently attracting mosquitoes, wasps, moths, Aedes, gnats, midges, flies, horse flies, fruit flies, house flies, and 3,612 other species of insects.
- US standard test, can be used for years: AMUFER fly zapper outdoor passed the high specification UL1599 test and obtained the US EPA certification. The exclusive research and development of the bulb passed the test of continuous use of 13000+ hours, it has been far ahead of the industry and can be used for years.
- Upgrade multiple safety technologies: High safety grade circuit board design, upgraded three-core and double insulated power cord to prevent leakage and fire. The power grid material is made of high-strength galvanized steel and all shells are made of the highest safety grade V0 fireproof material, featuring a high-temperature resistance and super flame retardancy, carefully designed to guard the health and safety of your family and pets.
- Perfect for outdoor and indoor use: The construction of the mosquito trap is robust and well-designed. It's built to withstand outdoor conditions, featuring a durable ABS plastic outer casing, which ensures its longevity and protects against rust, cracks, or fading. The unit is designed with a three-prong plug and with a 5.5ft power cable, compatible with 90-130V power sources, and an IPX4 waterproof design, making it a versatile choice for patio, backyard, garden, garage, room, home space.
The researchers note that proof-of-concept hardware attributes would need changes in product design to optimize cost, size and power. A successful field-scale research system is evidence that the approach can work under the study’s conditions, not evidence that a portable commercial model achieves the same results.
How it differs from Bzigo Iris
Bzigo Iris is also a mosquito-detection product, but its role is different: it marks a mosquito’s location with a laser pointer and sends phone alerts so a person can find it. Bzigo says Iris does not kill the mosquito. Bzigo’s explanation of what Iris does.

| Product or system | What it does | Evidence and availability |
|---|---|---|
| Photon Matrix | Manufacturer says it detects and eliminates mosquitoes; listed infrared model has a range of up to 6 meters and a 90-degree scan sector. | Manufacturer specifications; currently listed for pre-order. Independent consumer-device performance evaluation was not verified. |
| Bzigo Iris | Detects and marks a mosquito’s location and sends phone alerts; does not kill it. | Function described by Bzigo; this is a locator, not a laser zapper. |

What to check before relying on one
- Function: Confirm whether a device claims to kill mosquitoes or only locate them for you to remove.
- Coverage: Compare the stated range and scan angle with the room or outdoor area you want to cover. Photon Matrix’s listed infrared model is sector-based, not 360-degree.
- Availability: A pre-order listing and estimated dispatch window are not the same as a product currently shipping.
- Evidence: Distinguish vendor specifications from independent testing of the actual consumer product. The Photonic Fence study does not validate Photon Matrix.
Laser safety claims need careful interpretation
Photon Matrix describes a Class 4 internal laser diode inside an enclosed system and lists multiple active safety protections. Those are manufacturer statements. A component’s Class 4 classification and the company’s description of safeguards do not by themselves establish independent certification or real-world safety. No independent consumer-device safety evaluation was verified. Photon Matrix’s stated product and safety details.

If a detector points out a mosquito but does not kill it, a rechargeable electric mosquito swatter is a straightforward manual option. Bzigo describes one with a telescopic handle and electric mesh. The mesh carries high voltage while in use, so its guide advises keeping it away from children and pets. This is a manual swatter, not an autonomous laser device. Bzigo’s mosquito-swatter guide.
