There is no single portable grill that is best for every job: a lightweight charcoal grill, a wheeled propane grill, and an electric-powered pellet grill solve different transport and fuel problems. The specifications available here support a practical comparison of three named models, not a verified “10 best” ranking. Choose by where you will cook, how you will move the grill, and what fuel or power you can bring.
What “portable” means in practice
Portable can mean a grill light enough to carry, one that folds or packs into a vehicle, or a larger grill that rolls between storage and a cooking spot. Manufacturer specifications illustrate the spread: Weber lists its Go-Anywhere charcoal grill at 11.5 lb and 160 square inches of cooking area; the Weber Traveler at 49 lb and 320 square inches; and Traeger lists its Ranger pellet grill at 60 lb and 176 square inches of total cooking space. These are published specifications, not independent measurements or performance tests.
Cooking area alone does not tell you whether a grill suits your trip. Include the grill’s closed or packed dimensions, how it is carried or rolled, the fuel container or pellets, and whether you have access to the required power. A grill that is portable on wheels may still be cumbersome to lift into a vehicle.

Choose by where and how you will cook
For carrying and compact vehicle storage
The Go-Anywhere is the lightest of these three, and its manufacturer lists closed dimensions as well as weight. It is the clearest fit here when you prioritize a compact charcoal option and accept the work of bringing and managing charcoal. Weber’s stated serving range is 2–4 people; it is not an independent capacity test.
For rolling a larger propane grill
The Traveler offers the largest stated cooking area of these three and a wheeled folding cart, but at 49 lb it is not a light carry. Its liquid-propane setup also requires a compatible fuel supply; Weber says the disposable cylinder is sold separately. Check the closed dimensions against your vehicle and storage space before choosing it.

For pellet cooking where AC power is available

Plan for both a suitable outlet and pellet supply, and confirm the requirements for the specific regional model you intend to buy.

Check the setup before buying
- Measure the whole transport path: compare closed dimensions with the vehicle, storage area, and access route. Account for the grill’s weight and whether you must lift it alone.
- Confirm fuel and power: determine whether the site allows charcoal or propane, whether the right fuel container is available, and—on a pellet model—whether an AC outlet is within reach.
- Check venue rules: campgrounds, parks, balconies, and other locations may restrict grill types or open-flame cooking. Follow the venue’s current rules rather than assuming a portable grill is permitted.
- Use the exact model manual: Weber’s manual states, “Never leave the grill unattended during pre-heating or use.” It also permits indoor storage only when the grill is disconnected from the gas supply. Weber grill manual.
How to interpret “best” lists
A meaningful portable-grill recommendation needs a defined use case and comparable product evidence. Weight and closed dimensions matter for carrying; wheels and folding hardware matter for rolling; cooking area matters only alongside fuel logistics and the number of people you expect to feed. The figures above are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The cited information does not establish an exhaustive set of ten products, a tested performance winner, or which of these models was available in 2025; current catalog listings may differ from that year.
