The Philips Hue Bridge Pro is no longer a leak. Signify officially announced it on September 4, 2025, and launched it in North America that month. The upgrade is substantial—up to 150 lights, 50 accessories, a processor Signify says is five times more powerful, 15 times more memory, Wi-Fi networking, and the new Hue MotionAware feature—but it is not an automatic replacement for every working Hue Bridge.

What the Philips Hue Bridge Pro leak revealed

In August 2025, Philips Hue-related pages and retailer listings briefly exposed details of a new black Bridge Pro. Pre-launch reports described a higher-capacity hub with a faster processor, more memory, MotionAware movement detection, Wi-Fi connectivity, and USB-C power. The reports also pointed to a September launch and a broader Hue product refresh.

Signify confirmed the central claims when it announced the product on September 4, 2025. The leak was substantially accurate, but the current question is no longer whether the Bridge Pro exists. It is whether its extra capacity and features justify replacing an existing Bridge.

Bridge Pro versus the older Hue Bridge

Feature Existing Bridge Bridge Pro
Maximum lights Lower legacy capacity Up to 150
Maximum accessories Lower legacy capacity Up to 50
Processor Previous generation Signify says five times more powerful
Memory Previous generation Signify says 15 times larger
Custom scenes Lower storage capacity More than 500, according to Signify
MotionAware No Yes, with compatible devices
Network connection Traditional wired setup Ethernet plus Wi-Fi flexibility
Design Older white enclosure Black Bridge Pro enclosure

The five-times processor and 15-times memory figures are Signify’s hardware comparisons, not independent benchmarks. They do not mean every light command will appear five times faster. The most tangible benefits are higher system capacity, newer features, and additional processing headroom.

What MotionAware does

Hue MotionAware uses changes in wireless signals between compatible Hue devices to detect movement. Philips Hue says the feature can trigger lights and automations, send movement alerts, and add presence detection without installing a conventional motion sensor.

That can be useful in a room or hallway where several compatible Hue devices are already installed. However, MotionAware is not universal. Philips Hue excludes various older or unsuitable products, including some older Go, Bloom, Iris, Lightstrip, Smart Plug, switch, sensor, camera, and third-party models.

Check compatibility before buying. In the Hue app, go to Settings → Software update and verify the model IDs against Philips Hue’s MotionAware compatibility information.

MotionAware also should not automatically replace a dedicated security or motion sensor. A conventional sensor gives you purpose-built hardware, deliberate placement, and behavior that does not depend on whether particular lights support the feature. MotionAware is best viewed as an additional automation option, not a guarantee of security-grade detection.

Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Matter

The Bridge Pro’s Wi-Fi capability can make installation easier when the router is in an inconvenient location. It lets the Bridge connect to the home network without being tied as closely to the router by an Ethernet cable, while allowing the hub to be positioned for better Hue coverage.

Wi-Fi does not turn Hue bulbs into Wi-Fi bulbs. The Bridge Pro still uses Zigbee for the Hue lighting mesh and lists Bluetooth among its protocols. Matter support is provided through the Hue Bridge ecosystem. The official product specifications also list compatibility with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, and Sonos.

For advanced users, the Hue developer documentation matters. Bridge Pro-exclusive APIs, changed discovery and security behavior, and newer firmware requirements may require updates to third-party apps and local integrations. This does not mean all local control has disappeared, but an unmaintained integration should not be assumed to work unchanged.

Who benefits from the higher capacity?

The 150-light maximum is most valuable to large homes, multi-room installations, and households that have outgrown one Bridge or are using several Bridges. The 50-accessory limit also gives larger systems more room for switches, sensors, plugs, and related devices.

It is not a universal practical guarantee. Philips Hue warns that some third-party and first-generation products may not be optimized for large systems beyond 50 lights, even though the Bridge Pro’s headline maximum is 150. A small, stable installation may feel little day-to-day difference from the processor upgrade.

Migration is useful—but one-way

Philips Hue supports migrating an existing Bridge into the Bridge Pro, including multi-Bridge migration. The official guide’s basic process is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Onboard the Bridge Pro in the Hue app.
  2. Choose whether to migrate immediately or later.
  3. For a later migration, open Settings → Bridges → [Bridge name] → Migrate.
  4. Keep the phone unlocked, the app open, and all Bridges and devices linked to the same account and Home.
  5. Update the Bridges and connected devices before starting.
  6. Keep devices powered and within range.

Philips Hue expects roughly 30–60 minutes per Bridge, although the actual time can vary. Control may be limited during the process, devices may cycle off and on, internet access is required, and the security system will be disarmed during migration.

Most devices on the first Bridge migrated to an empty Bridge Pro are intended to transfer automatically, including Hue lights, plugs, switches, sensors, cameras, doorbells, and chimes. Works with Hue devices, legacy Hue Tap configurations, non-Hue Zigbee configurations, partner integrations, and Hue Sync connections may still require manual reconnection.

Additional Bridges are more complicated. Some content transfers automatically, but accessories, Works with Hue devices, and configurations may need to be added or recreated manually. Philips Hue describes migration as one-way; it cannot be undone.

Prepare before migrating

  • Record room assignments, device names, scenes, and important automations.
  • List every third-party Zigbee product and integration.
  • Confirm that all devices and apps are updated.
  • Check MotionAware eligibility by model ID.
  • Choose a time when lighting and security controls can be unavailable.
  • Keep the old Bridge until the new setup is confirmed.
  • Do not factory-reset the old Bridge before the app confirms migration is complete.

Compatibility limits to check

Some older third-party Zigbee products may not work because the Bridge Pro has newer security requirements. Products using older Zigbee SmartLink or Zigbee LightLink modes are specifically vulnerable to incompatibility. Modern Zigbee 3.0 and supported legacy Zigbee Home Automation implementations have better compatibility prospects, but Philips Hue does not promise a perfect clone of every multi-Bridge setup.

Multiple entertainment areas may be supported, but Philips Hue says only one can be active at a time. Mobile operating-system requirements are also newer than for older hardware. Anyone using Home Assistant, Homebridge, iConnectHue, custom scripts, or another third-party integration should verify Bridge Pro support in the relevant project’s current documentation.

There have also been secondary reports of firmware updates causing serious failures for some Bridge Pro owners, with Signify offering replacement support in reported cases. That is not evidence that every Bridge Pro is unreliable, but it is a reason to keep records, update carefully, and review the official Bridge Pro release notes and support options.

Current price and availability

In North America, Signify announced a September 2025 launch price of $98.99. That is not the current US direct-store price: the official Philips Hue US listing showed the Bridge Pro at $139.99 on August 18, 2026, with the product listed in stock.

The same page advertises free shipping over $49.99, 30-day returns, and a two-year warranty for purchases through that store, subject to its terms. European launch pricing was announced at €89.99, so launch prices and current regional prices should not be compared as if they were interchangeable.

Should you upgrade?

Upgrade if:

  • Your installation is approaching the older Bridge’s practical capacity.
  • You run a large or multi-room Hue system.
  • You want MotionAware and your devices are compatible.
  • You want to consolidate multiple Bridges.
  • Your router location makes wired Bridge placement inconvenient.
  • You want access to newer Bridge Pro features, including expanding spatial and automation capabilities.

Keep the existing Bridge if:

  • Your system is small, stable, and responsive.
  • You do not need MotionAware or other Pro-exclusive features.
  • Your installation contains many older third-party Zigbee products.
  • You rely on an integration that has not confirmed Bridge Pro support.
  • You are unwilling to accept a one-way migration.
  • The higher current price matters more than extra capacity.

Bottom line: The Bridge Pro is a meaningful platform upgrade rather than merely a faster-looking hub. It is the stronger long-term choice for large Hue installations, multi-Bridge households, and buyers who want MotionAware or newer Bridge Pro features. For a small, working system—or one built around legacy Zigbee and fragile third-party integrations—the standard Bridge remains the lower-risk choice.
