Bring an adapter if your device’s plug does not fit, and check each device’s input rating: a plug adapter changes the physical connection, not necessarily the voltage.
Which plug types are used in the Philippines?
An International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) meeting bulletin identifies three plug and socket types used in the Philippines:
- Type A: two flat, parallel pins.
- Type B: two flat, parallel pins and a grounding pin.
- Type C: two round pins.
The bulletin does not say which type is most common or guarantee what you will find at a particular hotel, home or other building. Match your plug to the socket you encounter rather than assuming a specific outlet configuration. ICAO Meeting Bulletin: 2022 CAPSCA-AP-15
What are the Philippines’ voltage and frequency?
ICAO states the supply as 220 V AC at 60 Hz. Its 2025 workshop information says “220V, 60 cycles, AC”; a 2022 meeting bulletin gives 220 V and 60 Hz. These are the stated electrical ratings, not a guarantee that every outlet or building has been individually checked. - Connects up to 2 Devices: 1 Grounded Outlet (3-prong N. American plug), 1 Non-grounded outlet (2-prong N. American plug) and accepts polarized plugs (one prong is wider than the other); Commonly used in Japan, Philippines and N. America
- Standard: Type A plug, NEMA 1-15. Non-Grounded 2-prong plug. Max. amps up to 10A. Max. voltage up to 250V
- Ultra compact and light weight design - measures only 1.6" x 1.6" x 1.9" & 1.07 oz
- Designed in the USA - simple, safe and easy to use adapter. CE Certified & ROHS Compliant
- Lifetime Limited Warranty included. NOTE: These adapters do not convert voltage. The AC voltage in N. America is 120V so make sure that your electronics are compatible with worldwide voltage range 100-240V when using with these adapters abroad
Do you need a travel adapter?
You may need one if your device’s plug shape does not match the socket. ICAO recommends bringing a universal travel adapter for charging laptops and mobile devices. The recommendation addresses plug fit; it does not say that an adapter converts voltage. ICAO General Information: ICAO-EASA Workshop, Philippines
Type B includes a grounding pin, but that does not mean a two-slot socket provides a ground connection. Check the adapter and socket configuration rather than assuming grounding is preserved.

- Important: This is just a travel adapter, it will not work with devices that require a voltage converter. It will only work with dual voltage products such as cell phones, chargers, & laptops etc.
Check your device before plugging it in
- Read the device or charger input label. Look for its accepted input voltage and frequency.
- Compare the rating with the stated local supply. The Philippines’ stated supply is 220 V AC at 60 Hz.
- Choose the right equipment for the issue. Use a plug adapter for a physical-fit problem. If the device’s input rating does not accommodate the local supply, a plug adapter alone does not resolve that mismatch; consult the device or power-supply instructions and use only equipment explicitly rated for the situation.
ICAO advises travelers to check their devices’ ratings. Compatibility depends on the specific device or power supply, so do not assume every laptop, phone, charger or appliance will work simply because its plug fits. ICAO General Information: ICAO-EASA Workshop, Philippines

The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards catalogue lists PNS 2117:2025, “Plugs and socket-outlets for household and similar purposes – Configurations and dimensions.” The catalogue describes its scope as configurations and dimensions for household and similar purposes, indoors or outdoors, for AC applications rated no more than 250 V. It says these requirements are additional to PNS IEC 60884-1 general requirements. This standard’s catalogue entry provides standards context; it does not establish which outlet type is installed in any particular building.
