Perth’s planned surf park is moving from approvals into construction. Aventuur says work began in early 2026 at its Prinsep Road site in Jandakot, with first waves targeted for spring 2027 and a public opening planned for late 2027. Those are the developer’s current targets, not independently confirmed completion dates.
Where the Perth surf park is being built
The proposed park is on Prinsep Road in Jandakot, near Cockburn Central station and the Kwinana Freeway. The site was selected after the State Government reviewed possible locations across Greater Perth, weighing transport access, population catchment, noise buffers and wind orientation, according to Aventuur. The developer was selected as preferred proponent in September 2021, and a long-term lease was signed in May 2022. Aventuur’s project page describes the location and development.
Aventuur estimates travel times of about 10 minutes from Fremantle, 25 minutes from the Perth CBD and 30 minutes from Perth Airport. These are the operator’s estimates, not guaranteed journey times. The site is also described as close to local bus routes, walking and cycling connections, and Cockburn ARC.
What is the current construction and opening timeline?
Aventuur’s current project information says construction commenced in early 2026 and estimates around 24 months for construction and commissioning. The developer targets first waves in spring 2027 and a public opening in late 2027. The sequence matters: first waves do not necessarily mean the whole venue is open to the public, and both dates remain plans that could change.

The current schedule replaces an earlier estimate. A June 2022 Government of Western Australia announcement anticipated a summer 2025 opening, subject to planning and environmental approvals. That historical target is no longer the current timetable.
What approvals have been recorded?
The City of Cockburn records that the Metro Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel approved the development on 20 March 2023. During assessment, environmental agencies advised the City that no further environmental review was required at that stage. The City recommended conditions including a revegetation plan, a native fauna management plan and a revised water management plan. Aventuur says the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation granted a clearing permit in October 2023. The City’s development application page sets out the approval and consultation record.

The City reported that 213 of 215 submissions during public consultation supported the development; the two objections raised potential traffic and congestion. This is a count of submissions, not a representative survey of public opinion.
What the vegetation figures do—and do not—show
The Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority’s 2023 project listing gives a site area of 5.78 hectares and says implementation may require removal of up to 5.26 hectares of native vegetation, including 3.156 hectares of Banksia Woodlands State-listed priority ecological community. It also identifies potential habitat for threatened black cockatoos. These are maximum potential-impact figures in the EPA listing, not evidence that all of that vegetation was cleared. The listing’s figures are summarized from its search-result extract because the EPA page was unavailable for direct review. EPA project listing.

What is planned for the park?
Aventuur describes a Wavegarden Cove lagoon with four surf zones for beginner through expert levels. The operator says the system is planned to produce more than 30 wave types, from 0.5-metre beginner whitewater to waves up to 2.0 metres. Those figures describe planned capability; the final operating offer may differ. Coaching, a surf academy and surfboard rental are also planned.
The wider proposal combines surfing with recreation and hospitality. Planned facilities include a wellness centre, fitness studio, skate park and pump track, clubhouse, beach club, cafe, restaurant and bars, rooftop glamping accommodation, event space and community amenities. Aventuur names Rip Curl as the planned flagship surf-store partner and Surfing WA as a partner for coaching, member access, events, adaptive surfing and water-safety programs. These are proposed facilities and partnerships, not services currently available.

Funding, prices and bookings
Aventuur says the project uses private funding, identifying institutional investment from RAC and further investment from Wyllie, alongside debt funding from NAB. The developer’s current public project information does not state financing amounts or terms.
Session prices have not been finalized, and Aventuur says they will be announced closer to completion and first waves. Its planned pricing approach varies by surf zone, coaching, peak or off-peak timing, membership and visitor category. The reviewed project information does not establish that bookings are open.
