The main differences are resolution, Optoma’s stated brightness, HDR support and some model-specific gaming and colour claims. The prices announced in the UK in September 2025 were launch MSRPs, not current prices, and the specifications have not been independently tested here.
What Optoma announced
Optoma’s UK launch announcement in September 2025 introduced the Photon Life range for home entertainment, including movies, gaming and sports. The company positioned the PH31, PK31 and PK32 as successors to the HD146X, UHD35 and UHD38x, respectively. It described the range as lamp-free and said the PH31 was available at announcement, with the PK31 and PK32 expected later in September and early October 2025. These are launch-era statements, not confirmation of current availability. Optoma’s announcement
The company’s product specification document lists DLP display technology and a maximum image size of 150 inches for all three models. That is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee that a 150-inch image will suit every room or viewing condition. Optoma product specifications
How the PH31, PK31 and PK32 differ
| Model | Resolution | Optoma-listed brightness | HDR listed | Notable distinction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PH31 | Full HD (1920 × 1080) | 1,500 ISO lumens / 2,700 HK lumens | Not listed in the specification sheet | Integrated 5 W speaker; positioned as the entry home-entertainment model. |
| PK31 | 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) | 900 ISO lumens / 1,600 HK lumens | HDR10 and HLG | Optoma’s launch announcement claims 3LED and 90% DCI-P3. |
| PK32 | 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) | 1,100 ISO lumens / 2,000 HK lumens | HDR10 and HLG | Optoma’s launch announcement claims 4LED, 95% DCI-P3 and 4.6 ms input lag. |
These are manufacturer-published specifications and claims, not independent measurements. Keep the brightness units attached to their figures: ISO lumens and HK lumens are different measurement labels and should not be treated as interchangeable. The specification sheet and launch announcement give differing colour-coverage figures for some models, so colour gamut is not a sound basis for choosing between them without identifying the specific document and measurement.

Choosing by room and use
For Full HD home entertainment
The PH31 is the range’s Full HD option. Its listed brightness is higher than the PK models’ figures, but the resolution is lower. That comparison alone does not establish which projector will look brighter in a particular room or deliver the better picture: viewing conditions and independent performance measurements are not provided.
For 4K UHD and HDR
Both PK models are listed as 4K UHD and support HDR10 and HLG. The PK32 has higher listed brightness than the PK31 in Optoma’s specifications. Optoma also claims 4.6 ms input lag for the PK32 in its launch announcement; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified gaming test.
Rank #2
- STUNNING 4K UHD IMAGE – With 4K UHD resolution, experience remarkable visuals, vibrant color and details up to 150” image for big screen entertainment.
- LED TECHNOLOGY – Optoma’s 4LED (RGBA) delivers more nuanced color rendering and natural warmth—especially in skin tones and sunlit scenes. No lamps. No color wheel. Quick power on/off, long life, and consistently bright, accurate color.
- HDR10 – Discover spectacular visuals with HDR10, delivering superior contrasts, brighter highlights, and true-to-life colors. HDR10 enhances every detail, bringing vibrant hues and realistic textures to your content for an immersive viewing experience.
- GAME MODE – Experience smooth, responsive game play and an immersive experience with low input lag 16ms (4K@60Hz) and 4.6ms (1080p @240Hz).
- AUTO KEYSTONE, AUTO FOCUS AND MOTORIZED ZOOM – Instantly adjust your settings for a clear and easily aligned screen. Just sit back and enjoy.
For a bright room or a large image
Optoma’s home-entertainment positioning does not establish that any model is suitable for a bright room. The specification sheet’s maximum image size of 150 inches likewise does not say what brightness, contrast or viewing conditions are achievable at that size. Consider the room’s ambient light and the image size you need, and seek independent measurements if those factors are decisive.

What the published specifications can—and cannot—tell you
The available manufacturer information distinguishes the models on resolution, stated brightness, HDR support and selected claims such as input lag. It does not establish independently tested image quality, real-world brightness, gaming performance or current prices and availability across markets. For a decision, match the listed features to your room and priorities, then confirm local pricing and look for independent testing where measured performance matters.
