The rumored products were also linked to Apple’s broader smart-home plans and its delayed next-generation Siri ambitions. By 2026, reporting continued to describe both devices as future products, with possible releases later that year. That later timetable was also unconfirmed by Apple.

Apple’s June 9, 2025 announcement focused on tvOS 26. It introduced:
- A Liquid Glass visual redesign.
- Updated poster art in the Apple TV app.
- Optional automatic profile display when Apple TV wakes.
- Simpler app sign-in through an Apple Account-linked developer API.
- Expanded FaceTime Live Captions and Contact Posters.
- New India-based Aerial screen savers and more control over screen-saver categories.
- The ability to designate an AirPlay speaker as the permanent Apple TV speaker.
- Apple Music Sing improvements, including iPhone-related features and lyric tools.
These improvements arrived through software updates. Apple said compatible existing Apple TV 4K models could use the relevant features, although availability varies by feature, device generation, language, region, and local regulations. A newer processor would not automatically prove that a future Apple TV supports every Apple Intelligence feature locally. Apple would need to confirm the hardware, software requirements, and feature availability.
Rumored HomePod mini successor
Reports have described a possible second-generation HomePod mini with a newer S-series chip; an S9 chip was mentioned in 2026 coverage. Other possibilities included improved support for future Siri features, the same shared wireless component rumored for Apple TV, new colors, and smart-home improvements.
Apple has not confirmed those specifications. The current HomePod mini product page still describes the existing model, including its Apple S5 chip, compact design, 360-degree audio, stereo pairing, and smart-home hub functionality.

- White, blue, orange, yellow, and midnight finishes listed on Apple’s current pages.
It does not have a display, so it should not be confused with separate rumors about a future screen-equipped Apple smart-home product.

Why the rumored launch may have slipped
There is no official explanation from Apple. One possible explanation, based on the way 2026 reports connected the devices to next-generation Siri, is that Apple may be coordinating hardware with broader software and smart-home plans. Apple could also have been waiting for Siri features to reach the required level of readiness.
That is analysis rather than a confirmed reason. The safe conclusion is simply that the expected 2025 timing was missed or was never publicly confirmed.

Buy the existing Apple TV 4K if:
- You need a reliable streaming device now.
- You use iPhone, iPad, Apple Music, Apple Fitness+, AirPlay, HomeKit, or FaceTime.
- You want tvOS 26 without waiting for unannounced hardware.
- You find the existing model at a meaningful retailer discount.
Do not buy it on the assumption that it will receive every future AI feature. Apple has not promised that.

Wait for a future Apple TV 4K if:
- Your current device works and the purchase is optional.
- Your main reason for upgrading is next-generation Siri or Apple Intelligence.
- You specifically want a possible processor, wireless, or remote-control upgrade.
- You can accept uncertain timing, pricing, and specifications.
Buy the existing HomePod mini if:
- You want a compact Siri speaker and Apple Home hub now.
- You value stereo pairing, AirPlay, and multiroom audio.
- Your household primarily uses Apple devices.
- You understand that it is an older S5-based design rather than a newly refreshed model.
Wait for a successor if:
- You specifically want a second-generation HomePod mini.
- Future Siri or AI support is your main priority.
- You do not need a speaker or home hub immediately.
- You are comfortable with rumors slipping again.
For Matter or Thread-based homes, check the accessory, region, account, and hub requirements before assuming that any HomePod mini will provide universal compatibility. For audio, remember that the HomePod mini is designed for compact ecosystem-focused listening; it is not a replacement for a larger high-fidelity speaker.

If you need a streaming box, speaker, or smart-home hub now, evaluate the current Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini on their present capabilities and price—not on rumored future chips or AI features.
