Yes—the Nest × Yale Lock can now be controlled directly from Google Home. Google’s expanded support began rolling out on March 2, 2026, for Android and iOS. Owners can lock and unlock the door, check its status, adjust several settings, and manage passcodes without using the Nest app for every daily task.
However, this is not a complete replacement for Nest. Initial setup still requires the Nest app, and the original lock still depends on a Nest Connect for internet-based control.

What Google Home can do with the Nest × Yale Lock
Google’s current documentation lists three main categories of support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Everyday lock controls
- See whether the lock is locked or unlocked.
- Lock or unlock it from the device tile.
- View the lock’s name and assigned room.
- See when it was last locked.
To find these controls, open Google Home > Home > All devices, then tap the Nest × Yale Lock tile.

- MORE WAYS TO ENTER: Hands full of groceries? This keyless entry door lock recognizes when you’re home and unlocks automatically. For everyone else, there’s a keypad, full smartphone and Apple Watch control, or a backup key if all else fails.
- CONTROL FROM ANYWHERE: This electronic door lock puts home security in your pocket - connecting directly to 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi without a hub or bridge. Lock up, let someone in, and get real-time alerts with the Yale Access app (US & Canada Only).
- UNLIMITED CODES, TOTAL CONTROL: No more hiding spare keys. Give the dog walker Tuesday access, your parents a permanent code, and your Airbnb guest entry that expires at checkout. Share, schedule, or revoke access in seconds.
- STOP WONDERING IF YOU LOCKED UP: DoorSense knows when your door is fully closed and Auto-Lock secures it for you. Head to bed, rush out the door, or chase after the kids — your smart front door lock handles the details so you don't have to worry.
- ENGINEERED FOR RELIABILITY: Grade 2 certified by BHMA, the industry standard for commercial-grade durability. Built to perform from -22°F winters to 140°F summer heat. Low-power alerts let you know when batteries are about to run out.
Device settings
Touch and hold the lock tile, then tap Settings. Depending on your account and rollout status, Google Home can expose settings for:
- Lock tone volume
- Auto-lock
- One-touch locking
- Device name
- Room assignment
Google’s legacy documentation lists auto-lock options of 10 seconds, one minute, or five minutes after unlocking, as well as automatic locking when the Nest home changes to Away mode. The exact options shown should be confirmed in your app.
Passcodes and guest access
Google Home now supports passcode management for the Nest × Yale Lock. You can create four- to eight-digit personal or guest passcodes, offer indefinite or scheduled guest access, edit or revoke schedules, and copy or share a guest code by text or email.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The documented path is Home > All devices > touch and hold the lock tile > Access > tap the lock. Create the code, save it, and then share or copy it if needed. Personal passcodes can be changed but cannot be deleted.
Do you need new hardware?
No. This is a software and account-service rollout, not a new Nest × Yale hardware revision. If your existing lock and Nest Connect work properly, Google Home support may remove much of the need to open the Nest app for routine use.

The lock’s underlying architecture has not changed. It communicates using Google’s Weave protocol with a Nest Connect, which connects it to your home network. Google Home does not replace that bridge.
What still requires the Nest app
The Nest app remains part of the installation and legacy-management process. Google’s setup instructions still require it for:
- Setting up the physical lock
- Calibrating the lock
- Setting up Nest Connect
- Adding the lock to the Nest account
- Initial configuration
- Some legacy Nest-specific functions and history
The practical arrangement is simple: install and configure the lock through Nest, then use Google Home for supported daily controls.
Google’s legacy documentation says the Nest app provides up to 10 days of lock history, including who unlocked the door and when. Current Google Home documentation describes status, last-locked information, and access management, but does not clearly promise that every historical Nest event detail has migrated identically. Keep the Nest app available when you need legacy history or troubleshooting.
Nest Connect is still required for remote control
If Nest Connect is offline or missing, the keypad and inside thumb-turn can still operate locally, but remote app control, cloud notifications, and some settings access may fail. Google Home may show the lock as offline.

- KEY-FREE ENTRY MADE SIMPLE: No app. No phone setup. No Wi-Fi. This Yale lock is a straightforward keyless deadbolt lock that lets you ditch the keys without the tech learning curve. Just install, create your codes, and go.
- SHARE ACCESS YOUR WAY: No more hiding spare keys. Create up to 20 unique entry codes directly on your electronic door lock. Give family their own code, let the dog walker in, or set one for the neighbor who waters your plants.
- WONDERING IF YOU LOCKED UP? Rush out the door without a second thought. Auto-Lock secures the deadbolt behind you so you never have to wonder if you remembered to lock up.
- BUILT FOR EVERYDAY USE: The backlit keypad makes code entry easy day or night. And if you ever want a traditional option, a backup key is included for peace of mind.
- ENGINEERED FOR RELIABILITY: Grade 3 certified by BHMA for residential-grade durability. Built to perform from -22°F winters to 140°F summer heat. Low-power alerts let you know when batteries are running low.
Owners who previously used Nest Guard as the bridge must replace it with Nest Connect because Nest Secure is no longer supported. Google says up to four Nest Connect units can be used per home in the Nest app; doors that are far apart may need more strategic placement or separate units.

If the lock does not appear in Google Home
- Update Google Home and your phone’s operating system.
- Confirm that you are signed into the Google Account associated with the Nest home.
- Check that the lock works in the Nest app.
- Confirm that Nest Connect is online and close enough to the lock.
- Look under Home > All devices, not only in Favorites or a room view.
- Force-close and reopen Google Home.
- Check that you are viewing the correct Google Home household.
- Do not remove and re-add the lock prematurely; initial setup still depends on the Nest app.
Google’s rollout may appear at different times for different accounts, apps, devices, or regions. If the lock works in Nest but not Google Home, check the app, account, household, and Nest Connect before resetting the deadbolt.
When the lock operates inconsistently
Not every apparent app problem is a software problem. A deadbolt rubbing against the strike plate, a door that must be pulled or pushed to close, incorrect calibration, or an incorrectly installed strike plate can cause failed locking and repeated retries. Google recommends using the supplied Yale strike plate and calibrating the lock with the door closed. See the official installation instructions.
Important limitations
Voice unlocking is disabled
Google Assistant can lock the door and report its status by voice, but it cannot unlock the door by voice. Remote unlocking must be performed in the app, reducing the risk that an unauthorized person could open the door with a spoken command.

- Secure smart lock for your front door; replaces the deadbolt lock you already have
- Keyless entry on the LED keypad so you can lock and unlock your front door without a key; keypad chimes play sounds to confirm responses, such as locking, unlocking, or turning Privacy Mode on or off
- Let someone in from anywhere; unlock the door with your phone for easy guest access
- Give unique passcode to family and guests and set a schedule to control when they work; when you don’t want to be disturbed, Privacy Mode disables the keypad so it can’t be unlocked with a passcode
- Get alerts when someone locks or unlocks the door or tries to tamper with your smart door lock
Wi-Fi failure does not necessarily lock you out
Because the lock is battery-powered, the keypad and inside thumb-turn remain usable during an internet outage. Remote app control and notifications will not work, however, and scheduled guest access may be affected if the lock cannot verify the date and time.
If the batteries are completely depleted, hold a 9V alkaline battery against the emergency terminals on the exterior, enter the passcode, and replace the four AA alkaline batteries once inside.
Door compatibility still matters
Google lists compatibility with 1⅜-inch/35 mm, 1¾-inch/44 mm, and approximately 2- to 2¼-inch/51–57 mm doors made from wood, metal, or fiberglass. The deadbolt backset must be no greater than 2¾ inches/70 mm.
The lock is not designed for glass doors, sliding doors, mortise locks, or multi-point locks. Check the door geometry before treating an installation issue as an app issue.
Should you replace it with Yale’s Matter lock?
For an existing owner with a reliable lock and working Nest Connect, replacing the hardware solely to obtain Google Home controls usually offers limited value. Try the Google Home rollout first.

| Feature | Nest × Yale Lock | Yale Smart Lock with Matter |
|---|---|---|
| Google Home control | Expanded support is rolling out | Designed around Google Home |

| Remote access prerequisite | Nest Connect and internet | Matter hub plus Thread border router |
| Physical key | No physical key | Physical key backup listed |
| Existing-owner path | Keep the hardware and update the software experience | Requires a new lock |
The newer Yale Smart Lock with Matter includes built-in Matter and Thread connectivity, DoorSense hardware, and a physical key backup according to Google’s product listing. It still requires a compatible Matter hub and Thread border router for Matter compatibility and remote access, so it is not a drop-in software upgrade for a Nest × Yale installation.
The bottom line for owners
Google Home is now a practical day-to-day control surface for the Nest × Yale Lock: you can lock and unlock it, check its state, change supported settings, and manage guest codes. But the Nest app and Nest Connect remain important. Use Nest for initial setup and legacy functions, and treat Google Home as the newer control layer rather than a complete migration.
Google announced the expanded rollout on March 2, 2026, and current documentation confirms the feature. If it has not appeared in your account, update the app, verify Nest Connect and account details, and allow for rollout or synchronization delays before replacing working hardware.
