The Nespresso VertuoPlus is a good fit if you want one-button espresso and larger black coffees from the same capsule machine. Its barcode-reading system automates brewing, and the swivelling water tank makes placement more flexible. The trade-off is a commitment to Vertuo capsules: they are a separate format from Nespresso Original pods, and their local price and availability matter. It is not a universal best buy, particularly if you mainly make milk drinks or want a wide choice of third-party capsules.
What does the VertuoPlus do?
VertuoPlus uses Nespresso’s Centrifusion system and reads the barcode on a compatible Vertuo capsule to set brewing parameters. Nespresso says the capsules spin at up to 7,000 rotations per minute; that is the manufacturer’s description of the brewing method, not independent proof of better-tasting coffee. The machine is designed to make preparation simple: insert a capsule and start the brew, rather than manually choosing all the extraction settings.
Nespresso’s US product page also describes a touch-operated brewing chamber, a rotating water tank and an adjustable cup support. Those features are intended to make loading and positioning cups easier. Reservoir capacity and other physical details can differ between regional versions, so check the listing for the exact machine you are considering.
Which drink sizes can it make?
VertuoPlus can make espresso as well as larger drinks, but the available capsule and pour sizes depend on the regional machine version and capsule range. For the US VertuoPlus version listed by Breville, the stated sizes are:

UK-oriented coverage also discusses an Alto capsule size, while Nespresso’s 2018 manual describes Espresso, Double Espresso, Gran Lungo, Mug and Alto formats across the Vertuo system. Neither is a guarantee that every VertuoPlus sold today supports every size. Check the capsule range and compatibility for your country and exact machine.
What is convenient about its design?
The barcode system removes much of the guesswork: the machine reads the capsule and adjusts the brew automatically. The water tank can rotate, which can help when arranging the machine on a counter. In a review updated 23 March 2022, T3 described a Magimix VertuoPlus with a 1.8-litre swivelling reservoir, a motorized lid and a used-capsule container holding up to 10 large or 15 smaller capsules. Those capacities describe the reviewed variant, not every VertuoPlus model.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and electric drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
- Power drill cordless with 1/2" single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength, making bit changes faster and more secure
T3’s reviewer praised its ease of use and drink variety, while noting that the machine attracts dust and that larger capsules can be more expensive and harder to find. For a kitchen or worksite break area, the tank movement and simple operation may be useful; the machine still needs a convenient source of compatible capsules and regular emptying of the used-capsule container.
Which capsules fit, and what will they cost?
VertuoPlus takes Vertuo capsules. They are physically different from Nespresso Original capsules and are not interchangeable, so an existing supply of Original pods will not work in this machine. Nespresso’s US page says VertuoPlus capsules are sold exclusively through Nespresso’s online store or boutiques; retail channels may differ elsewhere, so check local availability before buying.

T3’s 2026 UK guide gives a Vertuo capsule price from 43p. That is a UK-market figure reported in that guide, not a stable or universal price. Compare the current price of the capsule sizes you expect to drink in your own market, as well as whether the varieties you want are easy to obtain. Capsules are a recurring expense, so access and cost can matter more over time than the machine’s initial price.
T3’s 2022 review also compared a standard Nespresso capsule containing four grams of coffee with a Vertuo espresso capsule containing seven grams. That comparison is specific to the capsules discussed in that review; coffee mass alone does not establish how much caffeine a drink contains. There is no basis here for claiming VertuoPlus coffee is generally stronger in caffeine than alternatives.

Is the VertuoPlus suitable for milk drinks?
The VertuoPlus has no built-in milk frother. Its adjustable cup support can accommodate a cup for a milk-based drink, but you will need a separate frother or another way to prepare milk for cappuccino-style beverages. If milk drinks are your main use, include that extra step and equipment in your decision rather than treating the machine as a complete milk-coffee setup.

- Consider it if you value one-button preparation and want espresso plus larger black coffees from a single machine.
- Check carefully first if you already own Original capsules, since they do not fit; if you want broad third-party capsule choice; or if dependable local Vertuo stock is important.
- Look at other options if you mainly make milk drinks, are especially sensitive to ongoing capsule costs, or prioritize features such as integrated milk preparation.
Compare machines by the capsule ecosystem available locally, supported drink sizes, reservoir and used-capsule capacity, counter footprint, lid operation, milk preparation, and running cost. Independent comparison testing can also consider speed, taste, noise and energy use; Which? describes those as elements of its testing, but its product-specific results are partly subscription-gated. No single capsule system is the best choice for every household or break room.

Verdict
The VertuoPlus makes the most sense as a convenience-first capsule machine for people who want both espresso and a larger cup of coffee without manually setting each brew. Its automatic capsule recognition and flexible tank design are practical strengths. The decision depends on accepting Vertuo-only capsules, checking local supply and pricing, and arranging milk preparation separately if needed. Buy it for that combination of simplicity and drink-size range—not on a promise of superior taste or more caffeine.
