The Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise marked a construction milestone at the permanent Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia resort in Petersburg on October 8, 2026, when the project’s final commemorative beam was raised. The resort is planned to open in late 2027, according to the companies’ announcement.
What topping out means for the project
Topping out marks the placement of the final beam at the top of a building’s structural frame. At the October 8 ceremony, the partners raised a commemorative beam to mark that stage of construction. It is a structural milestone, not confirmation that the resort is complete or ready to open.

Economic and employment figures are projections
The Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise present the following as projections for the project’s first 10 years, not as results already achieved or independently validated figures:
| Projected measure | Figure in the October 2026 company release |
|---|---|
| Economic stimulus to the region over the first 10 years | $2.8 billion |
| Tax revenues over the first 10 years, including $240 million to Petersburg | $504 million |
| Economic benefits during construction | $802 million |
| Annual economic benefits after opening | $201 million each year |
| New jobs | 7,700 total: 6,100 during construction and 1,600 permanent jobs |
The release does not identify these estimates as government-published results. An earlier March 2025 company announcement gave different employment projections—7,500 jobs, including 1,400 permanent positions—so the figures above are the partners’ newer estimates from October 2026.
