Voestalpine says it commissioned power plant unit 08 at its Linz site during business year 2025/26. The unit has approximately 45 MW of electrical output and replaced unit 06, according to the company’s Annual Report 2025/26. The report confirms commissioning, but does not give an exact date for commissioning or construction completion.
What Voestalpine reported about unit 08
Voestalpine’s business year 2025/26 ran from April 1, 2025, through March 31, 2026. The company reports that power plant unit 08 was successfully commissioned during that period. Its stated electrical output is approximately 45 megawatts (MW).

The report says unit 08 replaced unit 06. It does not explain the reason for the replacement or provide further details about unit 06.
How unit 08 differs from the Linz EAF project
Unit 08 is a power plant project; it is not the electric arc furnace (EAF) being built at Linz as part of greentec steel. The annual report describes the EAF as a separate project whose initial assembly steps had begun. Most assembly of its core unit was scheduled for business year 2026/27, while commissioning of a separate secondary metallurgy plant was planned for spring 2027.
