If a fault code appears, record the exact code and model and follow LG’s guidance for that refrigerator type; persistent cooling faults and codes with no home troubleshooting call for service.
What to check before arranging a repair
Symptoms alone do not identify a failed part. Check whether the controls are locked, doors close fully, vents are unobstructed, and the relevant settings are enabled. For model-specific directions, find the refrigerator’s model number and consult its manual or LG product support; controls and code formats can vary.
- Note the symptom and when it began.
- Record any displayed error code exactly as shown.
- Check basic operating conditions before assuming a component has failed.
- Use only reset or defrost steps that LG lists for your model or code.
LG refrigerator not cooling properly
LG recommends checking the temperature setting first: a setting that is too high can leave the refrigerator warmer than expected. Confirm that the doors are shut and that stored items are not blocking air vents. LG USA recommends filling the refrigerator to about 70% of its total capacity for proper air circulation; this is the manufacturer’s guidance, not a universal threshold or a diagnosis of the cause.
If cooling does not improve after these checks, or an error code appears, match the full code to LG’s refrigerator error-code guidance. Persistent cooling problems may need professional diagnosis.

LG fridge not making ice
Ice production can be affected by the water supply, an ice maker that is switched off, or a freezer that is not cold enough. A newly installed refrigerator may take longer to reach temperature and begin producing ice.
- Confirm the household water supply is connected and turned on.
- Check that the ice maker is enabled, using the model’s instructions.
- Allow the freezer to reach its operating temperature.
- If LG’s reset applies to your model, remove the ice bin, gently move the ice maker up and down, replace the bin, then turn the refrigerator off for 30 seconds and back on.
On its cited ice-maker troubleshooting page, LG advises requesting repair if the refrigerator still does not produce or harvest ice after 4–6 hours. Follow the model-specific manual if its instructions differ. See LG’s ice-maker troubleshooting steps.

Water or ice dispenser not working
LG’s troubleshooting sequence starts with checking for an error code and turning off Control Lock. Listen for a hum while operating the dispenser. Confirm that the household water valve and water lines are connected where applicable; for an ice dispenser, check that ice is available and not clumped together.
If there is no hum, the door switches may not be registering that the door is closed. LG’s page describes checking connections behind a door-hinge cover, removed with a Phillips screwdriver, and reconnecting them one at a time. This is a step for that specific procedure, not evidence that a screwdriver or replacement part will resolve every dispenser fault. What an LG refrigerator error code means
Codes can differ by refrigerator type and model, and a code is not always a definitive diagnosis of one component. Record the exact display and model number, then compare them with LG’s code list. Some entries include owner checks; others direct owners to service without home troubleshooting.
Er CH or Er CL: cooling-related fault
LG says Er CH or Er CL may signal insufficient cooling or an abnormal internal temperature. Possible system issues listed by LG include insufficient refrigerant or a leak, a compressor or valve problem, or a blockage; the code alone does not establish which is present.

Make sure the doors are fully shut, then unplug the refrigerator for five minutes and restart it. If the code remains, contact LG support. LG notes that service fees may apply when the product is out of warranty. See LG’s Er CH/Er CL guidance.
Er FF, E FF, or F: possible freezer-fan obstruction from frost
LG says frost or ice buildup may prevent the freezer fan motor from turning. Its defrost procedure is to move food to another refrigerator or an insulated cooler, unplug the appliance, and leave both doors open for at least 24 hours. Place towels to catch meltwater. If the code remains after defrosting, service may be needed. See LG’s Er FF guidance.

Other codes
LG’s code list includes sensor, fan, ice-maker, and sealed-system fault examples. Use the instructions for the exact code and refrigerator type: some codes have limited checks, while others have no listed home troubleshooting and require service. Do not replace a sensor, fan, valve, or other part based only on a generic code description.
