The Kenya School of Government (KSG) campus at Boyani, Vihiga County, was 25% complete in a Kenya News Agency report published September 1, 2026. Work was ongoing on the administration block, auditorium, cafeteria, hostel block and staff quarters, while heavy rainfall was slowing construction. The project is intended to expand public-service training; wider local economic benefits remain expected rather than measured.

Latest construction status

The September 1, 2026 Kenya News Agency update put construction at 25%. It described ongoing work on five facility types: the administration block, auditorium, cafeteria, hostel block and staff quarters. Heavy rainfall was reported as a cause of delay.

How the campus could support public-service training

KSG’s official mandate includes training, research and advisory services. Its programmes serve public officers at national and county levels, including induction, mid-career and senior-leadership training. The State Department for Public Service described Principal Secretary Jane Kere Imbunya’s January 2026 visit to inspect the campus works.

Funding, schedule and local economic expectations

The January Kenya News Agency report gave the project cost as Sh1.1 billion and said completion was expected to take three years. Vihiga County separately reported that KES 400 million had been set aside in the 2026/27 budget under the responsible state department to support smooth construction and completion. That is the county’s account of a budget allocation; it does not independently establish how much had been disbursed.

County and January news coverage describe possible local opportunities, including residents preparing to benefit and investment in hostels that could earn income once the campus is operating. Those are prospective gains. The reports do not publish measured job totals, local contract awards, visitor demand or realized community income, so the scale of any economic effect cannot yet be quantified from these sources.

Who was identified as inspecting the campus?

The January 2026 inspection coverage identifies Principal Secretary Jane Kere Imbunya as the official who inspected the construction works. The September report describes a visit by a county implementation coordination committee chaired by County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru. Neither of those reports identifies Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as an inspector of the Boyani campus. The available accounts therefore do not substantiate that attribution.

The January report quoted Imbunya saying payments to the contractor were being processed and work should continue uninterrupted, and urging compliance with quality standards and the project timeline. Governor Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo described the campus as important to Western Kenya and the Nyanza region and said there was a commitment to completing it. These remarks were attributed to Imbunya and Ottichilo, not to Mudavadi.
