U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier toured the affordable-housing development planned for the former Nites Inn Motel in Ellensburg. The City of Ellensburg describes a 78-unit project that combines renovation of the motel with two new housing buildings and a clubhouse.
What is planned for the former Nites Inn site?
The City’s project page describes a redevelopment that will retain and renovate the former motel while adding two housing buildings and a clubhouse. The planned total is 78 homes.

The project’s developers are HopeSource and Stewardship Development. The City lists $750,000 in its affordable-housing funds and says it administers an $829,857 Connecting Housing to Infrastructure Program award. Other named funders include Kittitas County, the Washington State Housing Trust Fund and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

How the affordability targets are divided
The City lists two equal groups of homes: 39 for households earning up to 30% of area median income (AMI), and 39 for households earning up to 50% of AMI. AMI is an income benchmark used to set eligibility limits; these percentages are not rent amounts. The project page does not state rents.

Construction status and planned completion
The City reports that permits were issued in May 2026 and construction had started. Its current planned completion is Winter 2027. That is a schedule target, not a guaranteed opening date; the City’s page does not give a specific move-in date.
What is known about Schrier’s tour
The available indexed listing identifies Schrier’s visit but provides only a headline and brief excerpt. It does not establish what she said, whom she met, or whether she announced anything during the Nites Inn tour. A statement attributed to Schrier about housing affordability in coverage of her August 2026 visit to HopeSource’s Teanaway Court project in Cle Elum concerns a separate visit and should not be treated as a comment from Ellensburg.
