Iraq’s Trade Ministry says its General Company for Trading Building Materials has begun procedures to sell construction, sanitary and electrical supplies directly to citizens. The offer is reported to allow cash payment or Key Card installments over two years. The announcement, made October 10, 2026, comes after Iraq changed its official exchange rate, but no prices or evidence of consumer savings have been published.
What materials are included?
The company is reported to have construction, sanitary and electrical supplies available. Reinforcing steel, cement and bricks are specifically named as materials it is working with private firms to provide. The announcement does not include an itemized catalog, product grades or brands, quantities, or current stock information. 964 Media’s October 10 report gives the available categories and examples.

How can citizens pay?
According to 964 Media, buyers can pay in cash or use Key Card installments over two years. No installment calendar, fees, eligibility conditions, or application procedure has been reported. Without the cash prices and total installment cost, buyers cannot yet compare the full cost of the two payment options.
Where are the sales available?
The report mentions sales centers in Baghdad and the governorates, but provides no addresses or opening details. It also does not identify an online ordering route. Buyers will need to confirm the nearest sales point and stock directly through official channels before making plans.

Why is Iraq introducing direct sales now?
Company director Areej Hussein al-Jumaili said the initiative was directed by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and is intended to meet needs, ease financial burdens, support purchasing power and help stabilize the local market. Those are stated goals; the announcement provides no measured results showing that prices have declined or market stability has improved. The New Region’s October 10 coverage links the move to exchange-rate changes and their effect on local material prices.
For currency context, the Associated Press reported that on October 7, 2026, Iraq changed its official exchange rate from about 1,300 to 1,500 dinars per US dollar following a Cabinet decision. That figure describes the official rate reported by AP, not a market-rate quotation. The sales announcement does not quantify how the exchange-rate change affected any building material or show whether the direct-sales offer will offset it. Associated Press coverage provides the rate context.

What buyers still need to verify
- Current item prices, specifications and available quantities
- Whether a particular material is in stock at a nearby center
- Who qualifies for installments and what documents are required
- Installment dates, fees and total repayment amount
- Sales-center addresses and whether orders can be placed online
These details are not stated in the October 10 report, so the announcement alone is not enough to estimate a project budget or determine the total cost of financing a purchase.
