That is a design argument, not a verdict based on independent durability or value testing. The collection’s strength is its breadth—and the way the pieces are intended to work together without looking like a matching set.
What is in the STOCKHOLM 2025 collection?
IKEA introduced STOCKHOLM in 1985. The 2025 collection marks 40 years and, according to IKEA, is the eighth edition. IKEA’s global launch announcement calls it the largest STOCKHOLM collection to date, with 96 pieces. The assortment spans furniture, textiles, lighting and home accessories.
It includes a modular sofa, a sofa with a solid pine frame, chairs and tables, handwoven wool rugs, rattan furniture, lighting including chandeliers, and dining pieces such as tableware, glasses and vases. Some of the glassware and vases are mouth-blown. IKEA’s global launch announcement gives the 96-piece figure; market announcements may count the range differently, so that global total should not be read as a guarantee of the exact assortment in every country.
Why the collection feels different
The collection’s design idea brings together Stockholm’s urban life with the forests and archipelago nearby. IKEA describes a palette informed by Sweden’s seasonal shifts and says this edition uses a wider variety of colours and materials than earlier, more cohesive palettes. Rather than making every piece match, the aim is a related group of objects that can be mixed and matched.

Creative Leader Karin Gustavsson describes the intention as “a home that’s been collected over time, even if you buy all the pieces at once.” IKEA says the range was developed by three designers—Paulin Machado, Nike Karlsson and Ola Wihlborg—under Gustavsson’s direction. The company’s collection overview presents their work as a shared vision in which pieces complement one another while retaining individual character.
Materials and construction details
Natural materials and visible craft processes are central to IKEA’s product descriptions. The range includes pine, oak, leather, rattan, linen and wool, along with handwoven rugs and mouth-blown glass. Those details give the collection a material-led identity, but they do not establish independent findings about long-term durability, comfort or value.

Sofas and seating
Ola Wihlborg’s modular sofa is designed to be configured for different spaces. IKEA says Wihlborg developed more than 30 prototypes while working toward the intended shape and comfort; that is the company’s account of the design process, not a third-party test result. Wihlborg described his goal as a sofa that would retain its shape and appearance after someone stood up, while prioritising comfort without extra pillows. These are design aims, not independently verified performance claims.
Nike Karlsson’s sofa uses a solid pine frame. IKEA says its cushions are made without foam, using woven fabric, natural latex and coconut fibre. Karlsson’s designs also use rattan in a sliding-door cabinet and the back of a dining chair, as well as in a lounge-chair frame. Other seating includes bentwood chairs: IKEA describes their beech wood as soaked and bent by hand.

Textiles, lighting and glass
Paulin Machado designed printed lampshades and 100% wool rugs patterned with birch trees. IKEA describes the rugs as handwoven. In the dining and decorative assortment, the company lists ceramic and porcelain tableware, glasses and large vases, including mouth-blown examples. IKEA says hand-shaped vases vary from piece to piece, so individual objects may not be identical.
Assembly on selected pieces
IKEA says some tables and chairs use flat-pack packaging and a wedge-dowel fitting that lets legs click into place without tools. This applies to selected products, not every item in the collection; check the assembly details for the specific piece before buying.

Availability and what the launch details do—and do not—tell you
IKEA announced global store and online availability beginning April 10, 2025. That is the launch date, not evidence that a particular item is currently stocked in your market. Assortment and availability can vary by country and over time, so consult the local IKEA site for current listings.
Price is similarly market- and date-specific. IKEA Germany’s April 7, 2025 launch announcement gave a launch-era range of €3.99 to €1,699 for Germany; those figures are not a current quote or a global price range. The available launch descriptions establish IKEA’s design intentions and materials, but do not provide independent product testing, comparative prices across markets or durability results. For a purchase decision, assess the exact item’s dimensions, construction, care instructions, comfort needs and local price rather than treating the collection’s design concept as proof of performance.
