IKEA’s new smart home gadget prices start at $7.99 in the United States, while the full November 2025 launch covers 21 Matter-compatible products rather than one device. IKEA’s U.S. catalog lists sensors, bulbs, plugs, remotes and lamps, with availability varying by region, inventory and the need for a compatible smart-home controller.
The expansion matters because buyers can choose among lighting, climate and air-quality monitoring, leak and motion detection, physical controls and smart plugs. Matter broadens compatibility with Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Echo, while DIRIGERA remains recommended—but not universally required—for a larger IKEA system.

What did IKEA announce in the 21-product smart-home launch?
IKEA announced 21 new Matter-compatible smart-home products on November 6, 2025. The range is not one standalone gadget: IKEA grouped the expansion into lighting, sensors and controls.
The lighting group includes the KAJPLATS smart-bulb family, which comes in different shapes, lumen levels and white-spectrum or color options. VARMBLIXT is a larger smart LED table/wall lamp that belongs to IKEA’s current smart-lighting offer.
The sensor group covers several types of household information. TIMMERFLOTTE measures temperature and humidity, MYGGSPRAY detects motion, ALPSTUGA monitors indoor air quality, KLIPPBOK detects water leaks, and MYGGBETT monitors whether a door or window is open.
The controls group includes BILRESA remotes and smart plugs. GRILLPLATS and TOFSMYGGA are intended to make ordinary plugged-in products controllable through a smart-home system, while BILRESA provides a physical control option for people who do not want to rely on a phone.

IKEA’s launch announcement describes the purpose of the expansion in practical terms. “Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been easy enough to use for most people — or affordable enough for many to consider. This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started,” says David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden, in the official IKEA announcement of the 21-product range.
When can you buy IKEA’s new Matter devices?
IKEA’s original rollout plan pointed to January 2026, with most European products expected from January 1, 2026. Later reporting in February 2026 listed key IKEA sensors as available in the United States, and IKEA’s U.S. catalog now lists multiple products for sale.
Availability is not uniform across countries or products. The original European pricing report expected the two smart plugs to arrive later than most of the range, while U.S. stock can vary between online listings and individual stores. A product appearing in the catalog does not guarantee that every local store has inventory.
For U.S. buyers, check the product’s live IKEA page for the current price, delivery status and store availability before making a trip. Buyers elsewhere should use their country’s IKEA site rather than converting U.S. prices, because regional pricing and launch schedules differ.
How much do the IKEA products cost in Europe?
European prices reported around the original launch were different from the later U.S. catalog prices. The following figures come from the U.K./European pricing report dated November 21, 2025 and should be treated as launch-era prices, not guaranteed current prices.

What do IKEA’s new sensors measure?
IKEA’s new sensors target different household risks and conditions, so the right choice depends on the automation or warning you want.
- TIMMERFLOTTE: Measures temperature and humidity. At $9.99 in the U.S. catalog, it is the straightforward choice for basic room-climate monitoring.
- MYGGSPRAY: Detects motion wirelessly. It can serve as a trigger for lighting or other presence-based automations.
- ALPSTUGA: Measures air-quality conditions reported to include carbon dioxide, particles, temperature and humidity. IKEA documentation identifies climate-related measurements such as PM2.5, temperature, relative humidity, tVOC and CO2, although the exact measurements depend on the product.
- KLIPPBOK: Detects water leaks and can warn users with sound alerts and phone notifications, according to contemporary product reporting.
- MYGGBETT: Detects whether a door or window is open.
The distinction matters when choosing between a cheap sensor and a more specialized one. TIMMERFLOTTE can tell you about room conditions, but it is not a leak detector; KLIPPBOK is intended for water-leak warnings, while MYGGBETT is intended for openings such as doors and windows. The product descriptions and reported sensor capabilities are summarized in TechRadar’s CES 2026 product coverage.
Do IKEA smart sensors need the DIRIGERA hub?
No, IKEA Matter devices do not universally require a DIRIGERA hub. IKEA says a Matter device can work without DIRIGERA when the household already has another compatible Matter controller and, where needed, a compatible Thread border router.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →DIRIGERA is still the simpler choice for a larger IKEA installation. IKEA says the hub can connect newer Matter products with older IKEA smart-home products, operate as a Matter controller and provide Thread border-router functionality. DIRIGERA therefore adds the most value when a household already owns IKEA lighting or accessories, plans to expand, or wants one IKEA-centered setup instead of assembling compatible components from different platforms.
| Household setup | Is DIRIGERA necessary? | Practical recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| One or more Matter devices and an existing compatible controller | Usually no | Use the existing controller if it supports the device and required connectivity. |
| New IKEA Matter devices plus older IKEA smart products | Not always, but often useful | Choose DIRIGERA if unified management and simpler IKEA setup matter. |
| Several IKEA devices with no compatible controller | A controller is required; DIRIGERA is IKEA’s recommended option | Confirm ecosystem and Thread requirements before buying. |
| Buyer wanting only a physical BILRESA control | Depends on the complete system | Check the device’s compatibility and required controller rather than assuming the remote works independently. |
IKEA’s official Matter-compatible system guide explains the difference between a Matter controller, a Thread border router and the DIRIGERA hub. The key decision is not whether every buyer must purchase DIRIGERA; the key decision is whether the existing smart-home system already provides the required functions.
Can IKEA’s Matter products work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home?
Yes. IKEA says Matter-enabled products can work with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Echo and other Matter-supported ecosystems, provided the reader has compatible controller and network equipment.

Matter expands platform choice, but Matter compatibility does not mean that every feature or setup step is identical across platforms. A buyer should check the IKEA product instructions and the requirements of the chosen Apple, Google or Amazon system, particularly for Thread-based sensors.
Thread is a low-power mesh protocol used by many of the newer IKEA sensors. DIRIGERA includes Thread border-router functionality, but another compatible controller or border router may be suitable depending on the ecosystem. The official IKEA guide is the appropriate place to verify the current setup path before purchase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which IKEA gadget is the best starting point?
The best starting product depends on the household problem rather than the lowest sticker price.
| If you want to… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Monitor room temperature or humidity | TIMMERFLOTTE | It measures both conditions and is listed at $9.99 in the U.S. |
| Trigger actions when someone enters a room | MYGGSPRAY | It is a wireless motion sensor and the lowest-priced listed product at $7.99. |
| Add adjustable smart lighting | KAJPLATS | The listed E26 bulb supports color and white spectrum and costs $12.99 per pack in the U.S. |
| Watch for leaks | KLIPPBOK | It is designed for leak detection and can provide sound and phone warnings. |
| Control an ordinary plug-in appliance | GRILLPLATS or TOFSMYGGA | GRILLPLATS is the indoor smart-plug option listed here; TOFSMYGGA is intended for outdoor use. |
| Connect older and newer IKEA smart products | DIRIGERA | IKEA recommends it as the easier bridge for a broader IKEA setup, although Matter devices do not always require it. |
TIMMERFLOTTE is particularly inexpensive for readers who want a simple climate-monitoring project, while MYGGSPRAY is the cheaper entry point for motion-based automation. Neither price alone proves that a product is the best choice: compatibility, Thread support, the required controller and the intended location all matter.
Is IKEA’s smart-home refresh worth buying?
IKEA’s refresh is most compelling for shoppers who want inexpensive sensors, straightforward lighting and Matter-based platform flexibility. The launch covers more household tasks than IKEA’s earlier smart-home lineup, and the entry prices make small experiments possible without starting with an expensive hub or complete lighting system.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The main caution is infrastructure. A Matter label does not eliminate the need for a compatible controller, and Thread-based products may need suitable Thread network equipment. Buyers with an existing Apple, Google or Amazon setup should verify compatibility first. Buyers with older IKEA products may find DIRIGERA worth the cost for a more unified system, while buyers adding one Matter device may not need the $109 hub price reported by TechRadar in February 2026.
Best Value
- VOICE CONTROL, NO HUB: Link to 2.4GHz WiFi and ask Alexa or Google Assistant to dim, switch or schedule the lights, or use the app or the included remote.
- UNDER CABINET, CLOSET & SHELF LIGHTING: Six 200-lumen pucks cast focused, even light on counters, pantry shelves, bookcases and curio cabinets.
- TUNABLE WHITE 2700K-6000K: Shift from warm 2700K for cozy evenings to crisp 6000K daylight for meal prep, then dim to the exact glow you want.
- PLUG-IN 12V, NO BATTERIES: The included adapter feeds all six pucks through a 9-port splitter, so the lights stay on with nothing to recharge.
- EASY INSTALL, NO WIRING: Stick the pucks on with adhesive pads or secure with screws, connect the splitter and light six spots in minutes.
IKEA’s broader strategy is consistent with its stated goal. “Our goal is still the same as when we started exploring the smart home in 2012: to make it easy to use, easy to understand, and within reach for the many,” David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden, said in IKEA’s July 2025 announcement. Whether the system feels easy in practice depends on the reader’s existing controller, ecosystem and mix of old and new devices.
What should you check before ordering?
- Confirm that the product is listed for sale in your country; U.S., U.K. and EU prices are not interchangeable.
- Check live online stock and local store inventory because catalog availability can change.
- Identify whether your existing Apple, Google, Amazon or other Matter ecosystem includes a compatible Matter controller.
- Check whether a Thread border router is needed for the sensor you want to use.
- Buy DIRIGERA when you want IKEA’s recommended central setup or need to combine older IKEA products with newer Matter devices, not because every Matter device automatically requires it.
- For bulbs and plugs, verify the fixture, outlet and indoor/outdoor use case before ordering.
