The IKEA ELLOVEN monitor stand with drawer can double as watch strap storage: its divided bamboo drawer gives straps, bracelets and small tools separate places. It is a repurposed desk accessory, not a purpose-built watch case, and the original setup is one watch enthusiast’s personal solution.
How the ELLOVEN watch strap storage hack works
In a 2022 Fratello article, Daan de Groot described using ELLOVEN’s divided drawer to sort the straps and small watch parts that had been scattered among other storage. He dedicated one drawer to two-piece leather and rubber straps and another to NATO straps. Smaller sections held miscellaneous tools and parts, as well as steel bracelets when they were off a watch. Fratello’s account of the setup is a personal-use description, not a controlled product test.
Sort by strap type and accessories
Separate compartments make it possible to group straps by type instead of piling them together. You can also reserve a smaller section for spring-bar tools or loose parts, and keep detached steel bracelets apart from softer straps. How much you can fit will depend on your collection and how you arrange it.
Fold or lay out NATO straps
De Groot folded his NATO straps so they were easier for him to see and pick up. Another contributor shown in the article laid NATO straps inside the drawers instead. These are two personal organization choices; try both with your own straps and choose the arrangement that makes selection easiest.

Drawer dimensions and fit
The 2022 Fratello article describes this compartment layout: one long slot measuring 6.5 × 24 cm, a central compartment measuring 30.5 × 24 cm, and two smaller compartments measuring 16 × 6.5 cm and 7.5 × 6.5 cm. These are the article’s described dimensions, not a new measurement or a compartment specification confirmed by IKEA’s current listing.
IKEA Netherlands currently lists the ELLOVEN monitor stand with drawer (item 504.747.70) with an interior drawer width of 45 cm and depth of 24 cm. What to watch out for
Do not leave the drawer pulled out
De Groot reports that the drawer has no safety hinge and could fall if pulled out and left hanging. Treat that as his observation rather than a formal safety test: avoid leaving it extended, and use care when opening it.
Be cautious about stacking
De Groot also found two stacked stands unstable. He preferred the appearance of placing one bamboo drawer under another, but that was an aesthetic observation, not evidence that the arrangement is secure. Do not assume stacked units are stable or use them that way without assessing the risk in your own setup.

Alternatives if ELLOVEN is not the right fit
Dedicated strap organizer tray
A divided watch strap organizer tray is a more specialized option to consider. A Fratello commenter mentioned bamboo trays sold on Amazon and said they fit ordinary straps and perhaps shorter bracelets, but not unfolded NATO straps. That comment is anecdotal; it does not confirm a current listing, product quality or fit for a particular tray. Check the dimensions and return terms of any specific product.
Watch box or drawer organizer
A watch box or a general drawer organizer may suit a collection that needs more compartments or already has a dedicated place for accessories. Compare the available compartment sizes with your longest straps and bracelets, and consider whether you want straps visible at a glance or protected inside a closed case.

IKEA SKÅDIS pegboard
SKÅDIS is an adjacent, customizable pegboard storage line, not the hack featured in the Fratello article. IKEA’s US listing says wall-mounting screws are sold separately and the board must be securely anchored. How to choose a watch strap organizer
- Strap types: Check whether two-piece straps and NATO straps fit, and whether you are willing to fold NATOs.
- Compartments: Compare the actual space for straps with your need to separate tools, loose parts and detached bracelets.
- Visibility: Decide whether you prefer folded straps, laid-out straps or a closed box.
- Space and stability: Check the organizer’s footprint and, for a drawer or stackable unit, how it behaves in your intended setup.
- Local availability and cost: Confirm the current listing and total cost in your market; do not assume a product is available everywhere based on another country’s page.
