Samsung oven Delay Start schedules a supported cooking operation to begin later. The exact buttons, eligible modes, and steps vary by oven model, so use the instructions for your specific model rather than assuming one sequence fits every Samsung oven. First, make sure the oven clock is correct.
Find the instructions for your Samsung oven model
Locate the oven’s model number and open its matching Samsung manual or support page. Confirm that your model supports Delay Start for the operation you want; eligible modes differ by oven family.
Samsung’s NE63*811*** support instructions identify Bake, Cooking Time, and self clean as operations that can use Delay Start. That is an example for this family, not a universal list. Other control panels and steps differ: Samsung’s NX60*851*** instructions, for instance, show a different clock-setting procedure.
Set Delay Start on your model
- Check the clock. Set the current time using the steps in your model’s manual. On the NE63*811*** family, Samsung instructs users to press Clock/Setting, adjust the hour and minute with Up or Down, then save with Clock or START/SET. On the NX60*851*** family, the listed sequence is Clock/Setting, select AM/PM, enter the time on the number pad, and press START/SET.
- Select an eligible oven operation. Follow your model’s instructions to choose the cooking mode or other supported operation. Do not assume that a mode available on another Samsung family is available on yours.
- Enter the delayed start time. Use your oven’s Delay Start control and enter the time specified by its display or manual. Samsung’s NE63*811*** instructions identify a dedicated Delay Start key, but other panels may differ.
- Confirm the settings. Complete the sequence shown in your manual, including any required confirmation or start control. Verify the display indicates a delayed start. If you also want the oven to stop automatically, check whether your model supports using Delay Start with Cook Time and follow its instructions for setting both.
Delay Start, Cook Time, and Timer are different

Samsung describes the distinction this way: “Time cook mode sets when the oven will turn off, and Delay start sets when the oven will turn on.” A Delay Start display icon means the oven is programmed to begin later; Samsung cautions that icons vary by model, so check your manual if you are unsure which indicator you see.

Keep food safety in mind
Do not use Delay Start in a way that leaves perishable food unrefrigerated while it waits. An oven that has not started heating is not refrigeration. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service defines the Danger Zone as 40°F to 140°F and advises: “Never leave food in the Danger Zone over two hours; one hour if outside temperature is above 90 °F.” These limits are from its consumer guidance, last updated March 6, 2025.
When cooking, use a food thermometer and follow the safe minimum internal temperature for the specific food. USDA FSIS examples include poultry at 165°F, ground meats at 160°F, and beef, pork, veal, and lamb steaks, chops, and roasts at 145°F followed by a three-minute rest. If Delay Start does not work as expected
- The buttons or display do not match these examples: Use the instructions for your exact model; Samsung oven families have different panels and sequences.
- You cannot select the operation you want: Check whether that operation supports Delay Start on your model. Do not infer eligibility from another family’s manual.
- The scheduled time seems wrong: Check that the oven clock is set accurately. Samsung notes that the clock supports automatic features such as delayed cooking.
- You need to cancel or change a scheduled start: Follow the cancellation steps in your model’s manual, since behavior and controls vary.
