To connect a Samsung refrigerator water line, use the instructions for your exact model, shut off the cold-water supply, connect compatible tubing and fittings, then restore water and check every joint for leaks. Flush the system and discard initial ice as your manual directs before using the dispenser or ice maker. Samsung’s published pressure and flushing guidance differs by region, so do not treat one figure as universal.
Before you begin: confirm the model and water supply
Find the refrigerator’s model number and consult its user manual before buying fittings or connecting a line. Samsung’s instructions vary by model and market. The line must connect to a cold potable-water supply, not hot water. If a suitable line is already installed, Samsung says it may be reused; otherwise, choose a new kit that matches the refrigerator fitting and household shut-off valve.
Samsung US provides homeowner-facing connection instructions. Samsung Caribbean advises using a qualified technician for water-line installation. Follow the manual and local requirements; consider a plumber or appliance installer if you need a new household supply connection or are unsure how to make one safely.
Choose compatible tubing and fittings
Samsung US recommends a refrigerator water-line kit using 1/4-inch copper tubing, a 1/4-inch compression nut, and a ferrule. Compression nuts are needed at both ends, and some kits include only one, so check the contents before starting. The copper connection at the refrigerator uses a compression nut and ferrule.

Samsung’s US guidance describes plastic tubing with a molded end, or bulb, and a compression nut, but does not recommend that option. Confirm the fitting style and any model-specific requirements in your manual rather than assuming every 1/4-inch kit will fit.
Connect the water line
- Shut off the water. Close the household water-supply valve before disconnecting or attaching tubing. If you are adding a shut-off valve or altering household plumbing, follow local requirements and use a qualified professional when needed.
- Prepare the tubing and fittings. Check that the tubing is the type and size specified for your model and that you have the required compression nuts and ferrules. Use the refrigerator’s existing line only if it is suitable and in good condition.
- Connect to the cold-water supply. Attach the line to the cold potable-water outlet using the valve and kit arrangement appropriate to your household plumbing. Do not connect it to a hot-water line.
- Connect to the refrigerator. Fit the tubing to the refrigerator’s water connection using the specified fitting. Tighten the compression nut securely but do not overtighten. Samsung US Support warns, “Do not over-tighten it, as over-tightening will cause a leak.”
- Restore water and inspect. Slowly reopen the supply and check the valve and every tubing connection for drips or moisture. If you see a leak, shut off the main water supply, inspect the connection, and correct it before using the refrigerator.
Keep the joined section of water line straight if the refrigerator is moved; a Samsung-hosted Dacor installation manual gives this instruction for its refrigerator installation. If your Samsung model has two water lines, take care not to cross-connect them: Samsung identifies RS27T and RS22T models as having two lines, and incorrect placement can stop water and ice dispensing. Check the model manual for the correct routing.

Check water pressure and flow
Use the threshold published for your market and model rather than combining regional figures into one rule. Samsung US specifies at least 30 psi for proper ice-maker operation and suggests checking flow by dispensing 3/4 cup in less than 10 seconds. Samsung Gulf’s page, last updated June 9, 2026, states a 20 psi minimum and describes a measuring-cup check. These are different regional instructions, not interchangeable universal specifications. Samsung US says a booster pump can compensate for low pressure.
If the water supply does not meet the requirement in your model’s manual, resolve the supply issue before relying on the dispenser or ice maker. A plumber can measure pressure and advise whether the household line needs attention.

Flush the line and prepare the ice maker
Flush the system before drinking dispensed water or using ice, and follow the exact quantity and sequence in your model manual. Samsung publishes different quantities by region: its US setup guidance says to dispense one gallon after installing the filter and connecting the line; Samsung Gulf says to flush 2–3 gallons; Samsung Caribbean says approximately 3 liters. These manufacturer instructions differ, so use the one that applies to your model and market.
Samsung US also says to let the ice maker run for 1–2 days and discard its first two buckets of ice. Treat this as US guidance, and follow any different timing or discard instructions in your manual.

What to do if the connection leaks or water does not dispense
- Water appears at a joint: Turn off the main water supply, inspect the tubing and fitting, and correct the connection. Avoid overtightening compression fittings.
- The dispenser or ice maker does not work on an RS27T or RS22T: Check the manual’s line-placement diagram; these models have two water lines that can be cross-connected.
- Ice production is unreliable: Check the pressure requirement applicable to your model and region, along with the connection and water supply.
- You are unsure whether a valve, fitting, or household line is suitable: Stop and consult the model manual or a qualified plumber or appliance installer.
