If your Samsung washer door will not open, first let the cycle finish and the water drain, then check Child Lock and allow a short delay for the lock to release. A front-loader may stay locked while water remains inside; if it has an emergency drain hose, use it according to the model’s manual. Do not force the door or bypass its safety lock.
Why a Samsung washer door stays locked
The lock is a safety feature: it helps prevent water from spilling out, particularly on front-load washers. A door can also remain locked while a cycle is running or paused, while the washer detects water inside, or when Child Lock is active. The right next step depends on the washer’s type, cycle state, and model features.
Try these steps in order

Let the cycle finish and the water drain
If the washer is still running, wait for the timer to reach zero. After a cycle ends, allow a short delay for the lock mechanism to disengage; the door-lock light should turn off after draining. Check Child Lock
Child Lock can lock the door on front-load models. The button combination varies, so check the control-panel markings and the manual for your exact model rather than trying a universal sequence. Restarting the washer does not turn Child Lock off; some models have a temporary-off option, but the instructions are model-specific. See Samsung’s Child Lock guidance.

If the washer is off, turn it on and wait
Samsung says the washer should click as the lock disengages. A top-loader that lost power during a cycle may take up to five minutes to unlock and resume normal operation. That timing applies to the described top-loader situation, not every Samsung washer.

Drain a front-loader that still contains water
If water remains in a front-load washer, the door may stay locked to prevent a spill. If your model has an emergency drain hose, it is beside the pump filter or debris filter. Follow the exact model’s manual to access the hose and drain the water safely; when water stops flowing, turn the washer off and on again.

Not every model has this feature. Samsung notes that some older front-load washers do not have the filter or emergency drain hose. Do not dismantle the washer or try to drain it through an opening that the manual does not identify. Find the model-specific manual through Samsung’s support page.

Check for a door error or an obstruction
Samsung’s US troubleshooting page lists codes including dS, d5, FL, LO, L0, dE, dE1, dE2, dC variants, and dL as possible door errors. Code meanings can vary by model, so check the manual for the code shown on your display. Also make sure no laundry or other item is caught in the door and that the latch and door close correctly. If the code remains after basic checks or the latch looks damaged, stop troubleshooting and arrange service rather than trying to pry the door open.

Try a power cycle only if the basic checks have not worked
Samsung says there is no general washer reset procedure. As a limited troubleshooting step, unplug the washer or turn off its circuit breaker for one to five minutes, then restore power. A power cycle may clear a minor glitch, but it is not a guaranteed unlock and does not disable Child Lock. See Samsung’s guidance on resetting a washer.
When to request service
If the door stays locked after the cycle has ended, any water has drained, Child Lock has been checked, and the model-appropriate steps have been followed, contact Samsung support. Use the model code to find the correct manual and service options on Samsung’s washer support page. Do not force the door or attempt to bypass the interlock; those actions can damage the washer or create a spill risk.
