If your Samsung dryer’s controls seem locked, Child Lock is the most likely cause. The button combination used to turn it off depends on the model, so follow the Child Lock markings on your control panel or check the manual for your exact model. A door that stays shut after the controls unlock may have a separate door or latch problem.
Turn off Child Lock using your model’s marked buttons
- Check the display. Look for the Child Lock icon. Samsung notes that the icon’s appearance and availability vary by model; a lit icon indicates that Child Lock is on. See Samsung’s guide to dryer icons.
- Find the marked button pair. Look for “Child Lock,” a lock or baby icon, or lines on the panel pointing to two buttons. Press and hold that pair at the same time until the chime or icon change specified for your model. Samsung lists Temp + Time and Dry Level + Temp as common combinations, but they are not universal. Consult Samsung’s Child Lock instructions or the user manual for your exact model.
- Follow the panel’s feedback. Some models have a Temporary Off state: holding the pair once makes the icon flash, and holding it again turns the icon off. Samsung says that on many supported models this temporarily unlocks the door; Child Lock may turn back on after one minute. Treat the behavior as model-dependent and use the manual’s instructions.
Child Lock disables the control buttons and, on some models, can lock the door as well. Restarting the dryer does not itself turn Child Lock off.
If the dryer buttons still do not respond
- Try enabling Child Lock and then disabling it again, following the button pair marked on the panel or in the manual.
- If the controls remain unresponsive, unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker for 60 seconds, then restore power and check the panel.
- If the panel still does not respond, request service rather than assuming a particular part needs replacement. Samsung’s control-button troubleshooting guide gives these steps.
If the dryer door won’t unlock
First distinguish a Child Lock setting from a door or latch fault. Child Lock can lock the door on some models, but a door that stays stuck after the model-specific unlock steps may have a separate issue.
- Check whether laundry is caught in the door and whether the door closes securely.
- If the display shows a door-related error code, Samsung says the cause may involve the door, latch, or sensors. Check Samsung’s dryer error-code guidance for the code shown.
- For a persistent error or visible latch damage, contact Samsung service instead of forcing the door or assuming a replacement latch is the answer.
Find instructions for your exact dryer
Button labels, icon behavior, and features differ by model and may also vary by country. Use the full model code from the dryer’s label to locate its user manual and region-specific support through Samsung Support US for dryers. The manual is the best source for the correct button pair and what the icon should do on your machine.
