How to reset a Samsung refrigerator’s power
For a general power reset when troubleshooting calls for one, Samsung’s US guidance is to unplug the refrigerator or switch off its circuit breaker, wait about five minutes, then restore power. This is not a universal interval: Samsung’s symptom-specific panel guidance may call for switching power off for 60 seconds instead. - Check the refrigerator’s model number and the troubleshooting instructions for the symptom.
- If those instructions call for a power reset, unplug the refrigerator or turn off the correct circuit breaker.
- Wait for the interval specified for that model and symptom.
- Restore power and check whether the original symptom has changed.

Check these causes before power-cycling
A blank or inactive display
The display may simply be asleep. Samsung says touching the panel or opening a door may wake it. Check for a lock indicator and, on models that have it, Sabbath mode. A locked control panel or dispenser
Child Lock, Control Lock, or Dispenser Lock can make controls seem unresponsive. Look for the lock indicator and use the unlocking instructions for your refrigerator’s model before interrupting power. Button combinations are not universal. Samsung US panel troubleshooting
“OF OF” or “O FF” on the display
Samsung identifies these display messages as Cooling Off or Demo mode, which disables cooling; a general reset does not turn the mode off. Follow the instructions for your model. For the RF26J75 family only, Samsung specifies holding Freezer, Alarm, and Fridge together for five seconds to toggle the mode. Do not apply that combination to other models. Reset a Family Hub screen, data or Wi-Fi separately
Restart only the Family Hub screen
If the Family Hub screen is the problem, Samsung identifies a red switch inside the top of the right door for the screen. Use the screen-reset procedure for your model before power-cycling the whole refrigerator. Samsung US reset guidance
Factory-reset Family Hub data
Use this only when you intend to erase Family Hub data; it is not the first step for an unresponsive screen. Samsung’s path is Settings > About Family Hub > Factory data reset. Erase saved Wi-Fi information
On a Wi-Fi-capable refrigerator, Samsung says to hold LOCK for about 12 seconds, until “A” and “r” appear. On Family Hub, the alternative is Settings > Wi-Fi, then select the network and choose Disconnect or Forget. These steps affect network information, not the refrigerator’s overall operation. Reset the water-filter indicator after replacing a filter
The filter reminder is separate from refrigerator power and should be reset after installing a replacement filter. Samsung lists different procedures for standard panels, Family Hub, arrow-button panels, and certain named models. Photograph error codes and get service when needed
Before resetting, photograph any error code on the display. Samsung warns that a reset can erase error-code history and diagnostic information. Follow the code’s troubleshooting guidance; some errors may require service. If the refrigerator remains unresponsive after the correct model-specific steps, Samsung recommends requesting service rather than repeatedly resetting it.
