If your Samsung washer displays UE or Ub, pause the cycle, untangle and redistribute the laundry, then check that the machine stands firmly on a stable floor. If it still shakes after those checks—or a newly installed front-loader shakes violently—check the installation and the exact model’s manual before running another cycle.
What UE, Ub and related codes mean
Samsung associates UE and Ub, along with U6, Ur, 1 Ub and 1U6, with an unbalanced load detected during spinning. The meaning can vary by model: Samsung’s US code guide notes that “dc” may indicate a door error on some washers. An Ur message can describe the washer retrying rather than confirm a failed part. Redistribute the laundry first
- Pause the washer. Wait until the drum stops before opening it.
- Untangle and spread the items. Sheets and other bulky pieces can gather into a ball, concentrating weight on one side. Loosen them and distribute the laundry around the drum.
- Adjust a very small load. Samsung UK advises adding one or two towels to a very small load, then starting Rinse/Spin. Follow your model’s cycle instructions; the controls and available options vary. Samsung UK: washing machine troubleshooting
Samsung US gives approximate examples of a small load as 3–5 lb (about one-third full) and a large load as 6–16 lb (about three-quarters full); it also estimates one pair of jeans at about 1 lb. Check whether the washer is stable
If the machine rocks, or continues to vibrate after you redistribute the laundry, inspect its footing with the washer stopped. A spirit level and adjustable wrench may help if the model’s leveling instructions call for them.

- Confirm the floor is stable and all washer feet make firm contact. Adjust the feet according to the model’s instructions until the washer no longer wobbles; do not force a foot that will not turn.
- Samsung US advises leaving 1 inch between the washer and a dryer and between the washer and a wall before leveling. Check your installation manual for the requirements that apply to your model.
- If the washer is on a pedestal or riser, level that base before installing the washer on it. Front-load models may have locking nuts on the leveling feet; follow the manual for the correct adjustment.
Samsung US: washer shaking too much
For a recently installed front-loader, check the shipping bolts
Severe shaking after installation is a reason to check whether the shipping bolts were removed. On some Samsung front-load models, the bolts and spacers are at the rear; the cited Samsung US guidance says some models have three or four, while FlexWash models have seven. Top-load washers do not have these shipping bolts. Follow the installation instructions for your exact model to remove any bolts still in place, fit the supplied hole covers and keep the bolts and spacers for a future move. Do not assume shipping bolts are the cause if the washer was not recently installed. Samsung US: washer shaking too much
Retest, then decide whether to request service
Once the laundry is balanced and the washer is stable, run the model-appropriate test cycle or Rinse/Spin option as directed in its manual. If it still vibrates excessively or spins poorly, contact Samsung service. An error code or shaking alone does not identify a particular failed component; diagnosis depends on the exact model and machine.
