The best electric cooker is the one that fits your kitchen, electrical supply and cooking habits—not a universal model winner. Start by measuring the space and confirming the installation requirements, then compare hob type, oven layout, usable capacity and the full delivered and installed cost.
Choose the right cooker format and size
Freestanding cooker or range cooker?
A freestanding cooker is designed to fit between kitchen units. A range cooker is generally wider, with the extra space often allowing more cooking zones or separate oven and grill compartments. Choose based on the available space and how much simultaneous cooking you need, rather than assuming a wider cooker is automatically better.
Measure the opening, including width and depth, and check the exact appliance’s stated dimensions and installation clearances. Nominal width alone is not enough: the model’s installation documentation determines the fit. Beko’s cooker buying guide and range cooker guide outline the choices, but the specific model manual is the one to use when planning an installation.
Check the electrical supply before choosing
Identify whether the existing cooker connection is for electric, gas or dual fuel. Changing fuel type or supply can add cost, and the appliance’s connection requirements must be checked against the home’s installation. Have a qualified installer assess the specific cooker and supply; general buying guides do not replace the installation manual or an electrical assessment.

Induction, ceramic or solid plate: which hob suits you?

The right choice depends on pan compatibility, purchase cost, controls and cleaning preferences. Manufacturer descriptions explain product types, but they are not neutral comparative tests.
Choose an oven layout for the way you cook
Fan, conventional or multifunction
- Fan oven: Circulates heat and can help when cooking multiple dishes or batch cooking at a shared temperature.
- Conventional oven: Heats from the top and bottom without a fan.
- Multifunction oven: Offers combinations of settings, such as fan and grill.
These are different ways to cook, not automatic indicators of quality. Consider the meals you make most often and whether you need to cook several dishes at once.

One oven or double oven?
A double oven can let you cook and grill in separate cavities at the same time. Compare the number and position of cavities, shelf positions, cavity shape and grill area—not just the advertised litre capacity. Check whether the grill is in a separate compartment and whether its usable area suits the dishes you make.
How much capacity do you need?
Household size and entertaining habits can help narrow the choice, but capacity figures are only a starting point. AEG’s undated cooker buying guide suggests 70+ litres for households of four or more and 40–70 litres for households of three to four. These are the manufacturer’s broad recommendations, not independently tested thresholds for every household or cooker.

Usable space matters more than a headline volume alone. Which? warns that range-cooker capacity figures can include internal areas that are not usable for cooking. Check the shelf positions, racks, tray sizes and shape of the cavity, along with the grill’s usable area. AEG’s cooker buying guide provides its capacity guidance.
Which features are worth comparing?
Match features to your routine rather than treating a long specification list as proof that a cooker is better. Compare:

- Hob controls and oven controls, including whether the timer is easy to use.
- Cleaning method, such as catalytic liners or a pyrolytic cleaning programme, if offered on the model.
- Number and position of shelves, racks and grill pans included.
- Storage or warming drawer, if it would be useful in your kitchen.
- Warranty and service terms.
- Delivery access, installation, old-appliance removal and the total price for those services.
Compare the full cost, not just the cooker price
Electricity use depends on the model and how it is used. The sources reviewed describe induction as generally more efficient than ceramic or radiant cooking, but that does not establish a specific annual saving for a particular household. Avoid treating a running-cost figure for one cooker or one tariff period as universal: energy prices change, and range-cooker estimates do not automatically apply to standard freestanding cookers.
For any two models you are considering, check the same details side by side: dimensions and clearances, electrical connection, hob technology, oven and grill layout, usable capacity, controls, cleaning method, included accessories, comparable energy information, warranty, and delivered and installed cost. Is there one best electric cooker?
No current universal winner is established across standard freestanding electric cookers by the sources available here. Which?’s cited coverage is specifically about range cookers and does not establish a best freestanding model. Treat “best” as a match for your measured space, existing supply, pans and cooking needs, and verify current model specifications and independent test results before deciding.
