Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To change the temperature on a Samsung refrigerator, first identify the control style: separate Fridge and Freezer buttons, arrow-and-select controls, a Family Hub or SmartThings app, or model-specific conversion controls. Samsung’s usual U.S. targets are 38°F for the fridge and -2°F for the freezer, but the exact steps and recommendations vary by model. Check the owner’s manual if your panel differs.
Find the right controls for your model
Samsung does not use one button sequence across all refrigerators. Identify the panel or app interface before adjusting anything; Samsung’s temperature-setting guide covers several common control types.
- Separate Fridge and Freezer buttons: use the relevant compartment button.
- Arrow-and-select panel: navigate to the compartment and confirm the selection.
- Family Hub or app-connected model: adjust the compartment through the screen or supported app.
- Conversion controls: consult the manual before switching a compartment between fridge and freezer operation or turning it off.
Change the setting by control type
Separate Fridge and Freezer buttons
Press the Fridge or Freezer button repeatedly until the desired setting appears. On the button-style models covered by Samsung’s guide, each press advances by one degree or one bar, and settings cycle after the lowest selection. On some models, continued pressing of Fridge reaches Power Cool; that is a temporary rapid-cooling mode, not the routine temperature setting.
Arrow-and-select controls
Use the arrow buttons to find Fridge, Freezer, or FlexZone, then press the indicated select control. Use the arrows to choose a setting and confirm it. The selected value may take time to be reached.

Family Hub and app-connected models
Supported Family Hub models allow temperature adjustment on the refrigerator screen. Samsung also identifies SmartThings for adjustment on supported models; older models may use Fridge Manager. App names and menu paths depend on model and software version, so open the refrigerator’s temperature controls and follow the on-screen options or the model’s manual.
Conversion and convertible-compartment controls
Some top-freezer or upright models can convert the freezer to fridge operation or turn a compartment off. Samsung describes holding Freezer Convert or Fridge On/Off for three seconds on relevant models. A separate convertible model family uses a Temp button held for three seconds to switch between Fridge and Freezer modes. Its stated ranges are 44°F to 34°F in Fridge mode and 5°F to -8°F in Freezer mode. These controls and ranges are model-specific; confirm the procedure in your manual before changing compartment type.

Choose a target temperature
Samsung’s U.S. guidance, on a page accessed in 2026, says the usual ideal settings for most models are 38°F for the refrigerator and -2°F for the freezer. Some models show bars instead of degrees; the same guidance recommends three lit bars for both compartments where that display applies. Use the manual if it gives a different recommendation.
Samsung UK’s 2026 guidance recommends +3°C for the fridge and -18°C for the freezer at an ambient temperature of 25°C. This is regional manufacturer guidance, not a universal setting for every model or climate; follow the recommendation for your market and appliance.

- COMPATIBLE SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR MODELS – OEM-quality refrigerator temperature sensor compatible with Samsung RF263BEAESR, RF263TEAESR, RF263BEAEWW, RF32FMQDBSR, RF28HDEDBSR and RF23HCEDBSR. Verify the complete refrigerator model number and original sensor configuration before ordering.
- RELIABLE TEMPERATURE FEEDBACK – Designed to detect temperature changes in its designated refrigerator compartment and send readings to the appliance control system, helping compatible refrigerators maintain stable cooling performance.
- MODEL-SPECIFIC SENSOR REPLACEMENT – Suitable for customers searching for an RF263BEAESR temperature sensor or Samsung RF263TEAESR refrigerator temperature sensor. Compare the connector, wire length, sensor shape and installation position with the original component before purchase.
- COMPATIBLE WITH ADDITIONAL MODELS – Also suitable as an RF32FMQDBSR Samsung refrigerator temperature sensor, RF28HDEDBSR refrigerator temperature sensor replacement or RF23HCEDBSR temperature sensor for the compatible models listed above.
- INSTALLATION AND DIAGNOSIS – Disconnect refrigerator power before servicing. Inaccurate temperature readings or unstable cooling may also be caused by damaged wiring, fans, control boards or other components, so confirm the original sensor is faulty before replacement.
Check the actual temperature
A control-panel setpoint is not necessarily the compartment’s current temperature. Samsung notes that some model displays show actual temperature while the compartment moves toward the selected target, and that opening the door brings in warmer air.
- For the refrigerator, place a thermometer in a glass of water near the middle of the compartment. Samsung says to keep the doors unopened for up to eight hours for an accurate initial reading.
- For the freezer, place a thermometer between frozen food packages, not in water.
- If a reading is above 40°F in the refrigerator or 0°F in the freezer, Samsung advises lowering the setting.
- After changing a setting, wait 28 hours before checking again, as directed in Samsung’s temperature-checking guidance.
A refrigerator thermometer is optional: it helps verify the compartment temperature during troubleshooting, but is not needed to operate the controls.

Use Power Cool and Power Freeze for temporary needs
Power Cool speeds cooling in the refrigerator; Power Freeze speeds freezing in the freezer. Depending on the model, you may find dedicated buttons, a long-press control, a repeated-button selection, or an app control. Samsung notes that these modes can increase energy use. Some models switch them off automatically; its troubleshooting guidance says Power Freeze may remain active for up to 72 hours on some models. Check the manual for your unit and turn the mode off when it is no longer needed.
For the convertible model family described in Samsung’s instructions, Power Freeze should be enabled at least 20 hours before adding a large amount of food; it runs for up to 50 hours before returning to the previous freezer setting. Do not apply those timings to other Samsung models.

When the setting will not change or cooling seems wrong
- Blank or unresponsive panel: Samsung says the refrigerator retains its last settings if the panel is blank or unresponsive. Check whether Child Lock is on and follow the troubleshooting instructions for your model.
- “OF OF,” “O FF,” “OFF OFF,” or scrolling temperature bars: Samsung identifies Cooling Off, Demo, or Shop mode as a possible cause. Use its cooling troubleshooting guidance for model-specific steps.
- Food freezing in the refrigerator: check that Power Cool is off, then follow Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance. On Family Hub, Samsung places this setting in Fridge Manager.
- Temperature appears unchanged: allow time for the compartment to approach its target instead of repeatedly adjusting it. Use a thermometer and the checking intervals above to assess the result.
If abnormal cooling continues, use Samsung’s official troubleshooting or service route. A temperature reading alone does not establish which component, if any, has failed.
