Tools and materials

- A printed Tinker Bell silhouette and tape.
- A pushpin for transferring the outline.
- A hot knife and artificial carving saws for cutting the silhouette.
- A cordless drill with 1/16-inch and 1/8-inch drill bits for the dotted trail.
- A small light bulb for illumination.

Choose an artificial pumpkin
Use an artificial pumpkin for Linares’s version rather than substituting a fresh one. His tutorial says any size will do, but it does not specify a particular pumpkin model or dimensions.

Transfer the silhouette
Print the Tinker Bell silhouette, tape it to the pumpkin, and prick along its outline with a pushpin. The pinholes mark the cutting guide. The original tutorial includes the silhouette with the project.

Cut out the figure
Follow the transferred guide with the hot knife and artificial carving saws to create the Tinker Bell silhouette. Work carefully through the outline rather than rushing the detailed sections.

Drill the pixie-dust trail
Use the cordless drill to make a dotted trail beside the figure with the 1/16-inch and 1/8-inch bits specified by the original tutorial. The project creates its pixie-dust effect with drilled holes, not sprinkled glitter.

Add the light
Place a small light bulb inside the finished pumpkin to illuminate the silhouette and dots. Make: mentions LEDs as another possible option, but Linares’s tutorial documents a small bulb and does not specify a bulb rating or electrical setup.
Safety and simpler alternatives
This project uses both a hot knife and a powered drill, so it is not a suitable unsupervised craft for young children. Disney Experiences’ October 24, 2025 pumpkin-carving guide advises: “Please be careful when carving. Keep hands at a safe distance from the knife, take your time and always cut away from your body. Store knife safely away from small children.” It also advises supervising children who help or are nearby, and taking care with sharp objects and craft tools. That general guidance does not provide a specific operating protocol for hot knives, drills, or electrical lighting.
