You do not pair the Mini directly with the module. Instead, add the Mini to the same Blink system that already contains your Sync Module. That placement enables shared arm/disarm controls and, with a Sync Module 2 and recognized USB storage, eligible local clip storage.
The Mini can also operate independently with continuous USB power and Wi-Fi, so buying a Sync Module solely to run a Mini is unnecessary. See Blink’s Mini FAQ for the model’s requirements.

What “same system” means
A Blink system is the group of cameras—and optionally one Sync Module—managed under one system tab in the Blink app. Cameras in that system can generally be armed or disarmed together. Blink documents a limit of up to 10 cameras and one Sync Module per system; confirm current limits in its FAQ.
Being signed in to the same Blink account is not enough. The Mini must appear in the same system tab as the Sync Module. A Mini placed in a separate system may still record normally, but it will not share that system’s controls or Sync Module 2 storage arrangement.
#1 Best Overall
- Conveniently control all of your Blink devices right from the Blink Home Monitor app with the Blink Sync Module 2. The Sync Module 2 connects up to 10 of any Blink Indoor, Blink Outdoor, XT2, XT, Video Doorbell and Blink Mini devices (not required for Mini).
- Supports local video storage for up to 10 Outdoor, Indoor, Video Doorbell and Mini devices. Record and store motion clips when you insert a USB flash drive (up to 256 GB – sold separately) into the Blink Sync Module 2. Does not support live view recording.
- View, share, and download locally stored motion alerts from Outdoor, Indoor, Video Doorbell and Mini devices through the Blink app anytime or watch the footage on your computer by plugging in the USB flash drive (sold separately).
- No monthly fees are required to use local video storage functionality. Local video storage functionality is not compatible with Blink XT2, XT, and 1st generation Indoor cameras.
Check these requirements first
- An active Blink account and current Blink app.
- Blink Mini, its included USB cable and power adapter, connected to standard 5-volt, 1-amp USB power.
- Your home Wi-Fi credentials and an always-on internet connection.
- Access to the existing system that contains the Sync Module.
- The QR code on the Mini’s back, or its serial number for manual entry.
- For local storage: a Sync Module 2 with a recognized USB flash drive inserted. Blink documents support for drives up to 256 GB; see the Sync Module 2 FAQ.
Identify the exact camera model before making outdoor-use or reset assumptions. The original Mini is intended for indoor use and is not designed for reliable motion detection through glass. Mini 2 has different hardware and outdoor-use qualifications; its setup information is in Blink’s Mini 2 FAQ.
Add the Mini to the existing Sync Module system
- Plug the Mini into power.
- Open the Blink app and, on the Home screen, tap the + icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Mini Cameras. Do not select Add a Sync Module; that option is for installing or replacing the module.
- Scan the QR code on the back of the Mini. If scanning fails, tap Enter Serial Manually and enter the device number.
- When the app asks which system to use, select the existing system containing your Sync Module.
- Wait for the expected setup indication: one light blinking blue and another solid green.
- Tap Discover device.
- When your phone asks to join the temporary Blink network, tap Join. It is typically named
BLINK-XXXX. - Select the same home Wi-Fi network used by your Blink installation and enter its password.
- Wait while the Mini connects to Wi-Fi and Blink’s servers, then tap Done.
Labels and light behavior can vary slightly by app version, phone operating system, region and Mini generation. Blink’s current walkthrough is at Setting up Mini; Mini 2 owners can consult the Mini 2 setup guide.
Verify that it joined the right system
- Return to the Blink app Home screen.
- Look at the system tabs across the top and select the tab containing the Sync Module.
- Confirm that the Mini thumbnail appears beside the other cameras.
- Arm and disarm that system and check that the Mini follows the change.
- If you use Sync Module 2 local storage, record motion and then check the app’s storage status.
If the Mini appears under a different gray system tab, setup succeeded but the camera was assigned to the wrong system.
What the Sync Module adds—and what it does not
Benefits of same-system membership
- Group arm/disarm control and shared schedules.
- One system view in the Blink app.
- Sync Module 2 local storage for eligible cameras when a recognized USB drive is present.
- Integration with other Blink devices in that system.
- Use of a Mini as a Blink Video Doorbell chime when both devices belong to the same system.
Blink describes the doorbell-chime requirement in its Mini setup guidance.
Rank #2
- Enjoy 10x the coverage — Install Outdoor 4 cameras (sold separately) up to 2,700 feet (open air)/1,700 feet (typical use) from your Sync Module XR+, which is 10x farther than Blink cameras operating on wifi alone. Video resolution may vary.
- Indoor or outdoor use — Take advantage of open-air range when you place Sync Module XR+ outside your home with the Blink Weather-Resistant Power Adapter (sold separately).
- Faster live view where wifi is spotty — XR technology runs on the 900MHz band, avoiding typical wifi congestion, and unlocking up to 20% quicker access to live view in areas where your wifi signal is poor.
- Experience a more reliable connection — Cameras using XR technology have up to 70% fewer disconnects in areas with poor wifi signal strength.
- Get two-year battery life, even at long range — Blink's patented chip technology unlocks up to two years of battery life for Outdoor 4 (sold separately) when used with a Sync Module XR+ and Energizer Lithium AA batteries.
Limitations
- The Mini remains a plug-in camera; a Sync Module does not make it battery-powered or a wireless relay.
- The original Mini is an indoor model.
- Cloud recording, cloud history and premium features depend on your plan, camera generation and region.
- A Sync Module 2 does not provide unlimited cloud history.
Local storage, cloud plans and standalone use
| Option | What you need | Best fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sync Module 2 local storage | Sync Module 2, eligible Mini in the same system, recognized USB drive up to 256 GB | Avoiding a recurring storage fee | The USB drive is purchased separately; local storage is not available merely because any Sync Module is present. |
| Blink cloud subscription | An eligible plan and supported region | Cloud history, remote recordings, live-view recording or premium features | Plan names, features and prices can change; check Blink’s current comparison before purchase. |
| Mini without a module | USB power and Wi-Fi | A single-camera setup without group control or module storage | The Mini operates independently; storage and paid features depend on account and region. |

The QR code will not scan
- Confirm that Mini Cameras is selected and that the app has camera permission.
- Add more room light, clean the phone lens, and move the phone slowly until the code focuses.
- Hold the phone slightly farther away.
- Use Enter Serial Manually if scanning still fails.
The expected blue light does not appear
Blink indicates that a reset may be required, but button locations and sequences differ between Mini generations. Use the model-specific instructions in Blink’s setup guide rather than applying a universal sequence.

The app says “Unable to Connect to Sync Module”
The Mini itself does not require a module. The message usually points to the selected system or a temporary network problem. Check that the Sync Module is online, its setup is complete, your phone is on the intended home network, and you selected the correct existing system. Blink distinguishes optional-module Minis from cameras that cannot be added without a configured module in its module requirements guide.
The Mini will not connect to Wi-Fi
- Confirm the password and select the intended home network after joining
BLINK-XXXX. - Move the camera close to the router during setup and reduce interference.
- Restart the Mini and retry.
- If it was registered to another account, follow Blink’s account/device-removal process instead of repeatedly scanning the code.
Local storage is unavailable
- Verify that the module is a Sync Module 2, not the first-generation model or Sync Module Core.
- Confirm that the USB drive is inserted, recognized and no larger than Blink’s documented 256 GB maximum.
- Check that the Mini and module are in the same system.
- Make sure you are checking local-storage behavior, not expecting cloud-only features.
The Mini was added to the wrong system
- Delete the Mini from its current system.
- Go to + → Mini Cameras.
- Scan the QR code again or enter the serial number.
- Select the existing system containing the Sync Module and complete Wi-Fi setup.
You do not need to delete your Blink account or reset every camera. Blink documents this delete-and-re-add recovery in its Mini FAQ.

- Already own Sync Module 2: Add the Mini to that system and use a compatible USB drive if avoiding monthly fees is the priority.
- Want cloud history or paid features: Compare the current plans for your country before subscribing.
- Need only one indoor camera: Use the Mini independently; a module is optional.
- Need outdoor placement or newer image features: Compare Mini 2’s model-specific requirements rather than assuming the original Mini is suitable.
