University Health says it is planning for construction congestion and game-day traffic near the proposed Royals ballpark at Crown Center. The hospital is discussing the issue with the city, MoDOT and the Royals, and says it can adjust some staff shift times and monitor parking on game days. Children’s Mercy has said it expects to take part in planning conversations, but has not announced specific operational measures.
The stadium is proposed about half a mile from both hospitals, according to KCTV5. The project schedule remains a target, and detailed construction dates, street closures and hospital detours have not been established in the available project and hospital statements.

University Health President and CEO Charlie Shields said in May 2026 that the hospital was preparing for expected construction congestion and was in discussions with MoDOT, the Royals and the city. Children’s Mercy told KCTV5 that it looks forward to participating in conversations as development planning progresses and details take shape. The statement signals expected engagement; the hospital has not described a specific construction-access, traffic, staffing or parking plan.

The proposed development-plan conditions in Kansas City City Clerk File 260705 set out further traffic planning, including continued work on a traffic impact study and an event traffic-management plan. The text says the event plan should demonstrate that emergency vehicles can continue to reach adjacent hospitals. It also calls for review with Public Works, coordination with MoDOT and the KC Streetcar, approval before the stadium receives a certificate of occupancy, and periodic review with annual resubmission for event permitting.

Those conditions describe planning requirements; they do not establish that a final traffic plan or construction logistics plan has been approved.
