The Original Dog is not a brand-new 2026 idea; Home Depot previously described a 7-foot dog as a companion to Skelly. The newer announcement adds the named Sitting Dog and says the Original Dog is returning.
Which dogs go with Home Depot’s 12-foot skeleton?
Home Depot lists two dog decorations in its 2026 Skeleton Family announcement: Skelly’s Sitting Dog and Skelly’s Original Dog. Their listed heights and features differ:

Is the dog new in 2026?
Not entirely. An earlier Home Depot product-upgrade page referred to a “new 7-Foot dog” that “Pairs perfectly with his new 7-Foot dog.” The 2026 announcement presents the 7-foot Original Dog as returning and adds the named 5-foot Sitting Dog to the family lineup. Which Skelly features apply to the dogs?
Home Depot’s 2026 collection announcement says the original 12-foot Skelly has app-enabled head and mouth movement using servo motors, Bluetooth real-time speech, the ability to record up to 30 sounds, and 20 LCD LifeEyes effects. Those are features of Skelly; they should not be assumed to work on either dog. The dog-specific features Home Depot identifies are the Sitting Dog’s selectable LCD LifeEyes and poseable jaw, and the Original Dog’s glowing LCD LifeEyes. The same announcement gives the original Skelly an in-store price of $299. It does not establish a price for either dog. Home Depot said online and app sales began July 16, 2026, with Halloween products expected in stores later in August; availability can vary, so check current listings for the product and location you want.

How did Skelly become a Halloween staple?
The Associated Press reported that Home Depot launched the 12-foot skeleton in 2020. In 2024, Home Depot senior merchant of decorative holiday Lance Allen described the appeal this way: “Nobody could possibly need a 12-foot skeleton, but everybody wanted a 12-foot skeleton.” He also told the AP that people began decorating earlier during the pandemic, saying, “Everybody started decorating in early October for something to do,” and that shoppers shifted toward planning decorations “five to six weeks, two months ahead of time.” Associated Press coverage

- Choose a flat, level setup area.
- Use at least two other people for assembly, and have at least three people involved when setting the skeleton upright.
- Take the skeleton down in windy weather.
- Clean it with mild soap and water; avoid bleach and pressure washing, and keep it away from heat.
- Remove the eye batteries before storage. Disassemble the skeleton and use its original box or a sufficiently large tote.
