The trial of Higgins Homes PLC and four individuals opened at the Old Bailey in October 2026 over the death of Michaela Boor, who was struck by falling bricks beside a construction site in Bow, east London. The defendants deny the charges. The proceedings were continuing in reports published on 5 October 2026, and no verdict had been reported in those sources.

What happened to Michaela Boor?

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says 29-year-old Michaela Boor died on 27 March 2018 after bricks fell from a crane and struck her as she walked on the pavement past a construction site on Burdett Road in Bow. The Independent reported that she was walking with Chelsea Mustafa after they had dropped their children at a primary school and were heading to shops; that detail is attributed to court reporting.

Who is on trial, and what are they charged with?

The CPS announced on 12 May 2025 that it had authorised charges after reviewing evidence from the Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive. The charges are:

  • Higgins Homes PLC: corporate manslaughter under section 1 of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, and an offence under section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
  • Thomas Anstis, Stephen Coulson, Dawood Mann and Alexander McInnes: each faces a gross-negligence manslaughter charge and an offence under section 7(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The CPS spells the surname Mann; trial coverage spells it Maan.

The company and the four men deny the charges. They are defendants; the charges and the prosecution account are allegations, not findings of guilt.

What did the prosecution tell the court?

Sky News reported that prosecutor Alexandra Healy KC told the court: “A pallet of bricks that was being transported by a tower crane towards a loading bay immediately adjacent to the pavement along Burdett Way fell on to them”. The CPS and other reports identify the location as Burdett Road, so the street wording in that quoted court account differs. The reported account does not establish the court’s findings about how the incident occurred.

What is known about the trial’s status?

The trial opened at the Old Bailey in October 2026. Reports published on 5 October said the proceedings were continuing; no verdict was reported in the sources available at that time. Those reports do not establish the full evidence, any later court directions, or the eventual outcome.

Why the CPS urges caution in public commentary

When it announced the charges, the CPS said criminal proceedings were active and that the defendants had the right to a fair trial. It warned that online reporting, commentary or sharing of information could prejudice the proceedings. Readers should distinguish attributed allegations from established findings while the case is before the court.
