Govee introduced two headline products at IFA 2025: the TV Backlight 3 Pro, a camera-based reactive lighting system for televisions, and Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism, a year-round exterior lighting system designed to project richer color patterns onto walls and siding. Both launched in September 2025 and are now available in the US, but they serve very different purposes: one is a relatively contained home-theater installation, while the other is a major exterior lighting project.
As of September 5, 2026, Govee’s US listings showed the TV Backlight 3 Pro at $179.99 and Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism at $859.99. These are store-price snapshots, not guaranteed permanent MSRPs, and outdoor installation costs may add substantially to the price.

What Govee announced at IFA 2025
Govee revealed the TV Backlight 3 Pro and Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism at IFA 2025 in Berlin. The company also showed products including Curtain Light Pro, Pendant Light, Star Light Projector, and Christmas Sparkle String Lights, but the two products most relevant to homeowners and home-theater users were the TV and permanent outdoor systems.

TV Backlight 3 Pro: how it works
The TV Backlight 3 Pro uses three camera lenses to view the television screen and send color information to the LED strip. Unlike a system that depends on extracting a video signal, a camera-based system can respond to almost anything displayed on the TV, including built-in streaming apps, game consoles, Blu-ray players, cable boxes, and other HDMI sources.
Govee lists 1080p processing at 30 frames per second and an 86-degree field of view for each lens. The triple-camera arrangement is intended to give the system a broader and more detailed view of the screen, while multi-zone calibration maps different screen areas to corresponding sections of the strip.
HDR, dual exposure, and LuminBlend
Govee says its dual-exposure algorithm combines long- and short-exposure information to improve color capture across bright and dark scenes. The company calls its color-blending and rendering system LuminBlend.
The strip uses 16-bit RGBWWIC chips, combining RGB LEDs with warm- and cool-white elements. Govee lists 75 LEDs per meter and claims the high-density design is 30% brighter than the previous design. It also claims 300% faster processing from the upgraded chip. Those percentages are manufacturer claims rather than independent brightness measurements or benchmark results.
The product also includes AI Film Mood Matching, which applies lighting profiles intended to reflect a film’s atmosphere or genre. Auto power-off can turn the lights off when no content is detected.

Choose by the actual screen size, not simply the television’s product family. This is a television backlight, not a general-purpose monitor light, and the camera needs a usable view of the entire display.
Installation normally involves cleaning and drying the rear panel, routing the strip around the TV perimeter, connecting the controller and power supply, mounting the camera, pairing the device in the Govee Home app, and completing camera calibration. A wall-mounted TV can make cable routing and later access more difficult, so it is worth planning the installation before the television is secured permanently.
What can affect color matching?
The camera sees the physical screen, not the director’s intended image area. Reflections, glare, bright room lighting, glossy panels, subtitles, on-screen menus, letterboxing, and black bars can all influence the result. The camera must also remain in the calibrated position.
If colors look wrong, reduce glare and competing room light, check the camera angle, confirm the strip is attached in the correct orientation, and run calibration again. Updating the Govee app and firmware is sensible before troubleshooting DreamView or third-party control.
Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism: what is different?
Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism is designed to remain installed year-round. Govee describes it as a third-generation permanent outdoor lighting product with a triple-color optical effect, smooth gradients, independent lighting zones, and a claimed 16 million colors. The system is rated IP68 and has a stated operating range of -30°F to 140°F, according to the announcement coverage.

The important distinction is not merely the number of available colors. Prism’s optical structure is designed to spread and shape light onto the home’s siding, producing a more pronounced prismatic or multicolor wall pattern than a conventional row of visible colored points.

That effect will vary from one property to another. Mounting distance, roofline geometry, siding texture, ambient light, viewing angle, and the height of the installation all affect how the pattern appears. A promotional image cannot establish that every home will receive the same result.
Likewise, “16 million colors” describes the system’s color-addressing capability. It does not mean a homeowner will see 16 million visibly distinct outdoor patterns. Triple-color effects may create richer gradients, but they do not automatically provide superior white light, security illumination, or uniform coverage for paths and stairs.
Outdoor installation is the larger project
Before ordering, measure the complete route rather than only the front facade. Include corners, side runs, gables, soffits, and other changes in direction. Confirm the specific kit length, extension limits, cutability, included mounting hardware, controller location, and regional configuration.

- Choose a protected location for the controller and power supply according to Govee’s instructions.
- Clean and dry mounting surfaces before attaching hardware.
- Test the complete system before permanently securing every section.
- Route and seal connectors carefully, keeping power connections positioned as directed.
- Account for ladders, roof access, gutters, soffits, siding, weather exposure, and future servicing.
- Check local electrical and building requirements where exterior wiring or a permanent power connection is involved.
IP68 is a strong water- and dust-resistance rating, but it does not make every installation suitable for every climate. UV exposure, snow loading, adhesive performance in cold weather, drainage, connector sealing, and power-supply placement remain separate concerns. Photographing cable routes and connectors can make future repairs easier.
Matter, DreamView, and smart-home compatibility
Both products are intended to work within Govee’s wider ecosystem. The TV Backlight 3 Pro supports Matter and DreamView, and Govee says it can synchronize with up to 10 Govee devices using next-generation Bluetooth synchronization. DreamView can make the TV lighting the centerpiece of a larger indoor lighting scene; Prism can operate as a separate exterior installation or participate in a broader Govee setup.
Matter can simplify basic control through compatible Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home environments. It does not guarantee that every Govee feature appears in every third-party platform. Calibration, AI Film Mood Matching, detailed effects, DreamView configuration, firmware updates, and specialized controls may still require the Govee Home app.

For the most reliable setup, pair and calibrate each product in Govee’s app first. Add Matter or voice-assistant control after the basic system works. If third-party controls are limited, return to the Govee app for advanced effects rather than treating that limitation as a hardware failure.

Pricing and availability
The TV Backlight 3 Pro launched September 29, 2025, and Prism launched September 22, 2025. When checked on September 5, 2026, Govee’s US store listed the TV Backlight 3 Pro at $179.99. Govee’s US product collection listed Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism at $859.99.
Because store prices, promotions, kit lengths, and regional SKUs can change, confirm the live listing before buying. For Prism in particular, verify the included length, controller, extensions, mounting hardware, warranty terms, and power configuration. The product price may be only one part of the project: professional installation, ladder or roof access, additional mounting materials, and future replacement parts can materially increase the total.

It is the more accessible of the two upgrades and is best suited to owners of supported-size TVs who want reactive lighting for films, sports, or gaming. It makes particular sense for existing Govee users who can add the TV as a DreamView centerpiece.
It is a weaker fit for anyone who dislikes a camera mounted near the screen, owns an unsupported TV size, has severe glare or difficult camera placement, wants only neutral white bias lighting, or expects the system to improve the television’s actual picture quality. Reactive lighting can increase immersion, but it can also distract from a film or a competitive game.
Who should consider Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism?
Prism is for homeowners who specifically want year-round decorative roofline or facade lighting and are willing to plan a permanent installation. Its visual effect may justify the premium for buyers who want more elaborate gradients and wall patterns than ordinary permanent lights provide.

It is a poor fit for renters, buyers seeking inexpensive seasonal string lights, properties requiring costly roof access, or anyone primarily seeking security, pathway, stair, or work lighting. It is decorative architectural lighting, not a substitute for properly designed functional exterior illumination.
Alternatives to investigate
The right alternative depends on both technology and installation model:
- Philips Hue TV lighting: Worth considering for households already invested in Hue and its broader smart-lighting ecosystem. Some configurations require additional Hue hardware and use a different synchronization approach.
- Nanoleaf 4D: A comparable camera-based TV-lighting concept for buyers evaluating calibration, screen-size support, and platform integration.
- Lytmi: Relevant to shoppers who prefer HDMI- or signal-based synchronization in some configurations rather than a camera watching the screen.
- Twinkly outdoor lighting: A flexible option for decorative seasonal or architectural installations that do not need to remain permanently attached in the same way.
- Philips Hue outdoor products: Better suited to buyers prioritizing conventional outdoor fixtures and Hue integration over Prism’s wall-pattern presentation.
- Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 and Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro: Same-brand alternatives for buyers who want permanent Govee lighting without necessarily paying for Prism’s optical effect. The Pro model’s RGBWWIC lighting and Matter support should be compared alongside kit size and design.
- Govee RGBICWW Outdoor LED Strip Lights: A lower-commitment option for outdoor accent lighting rather than a permanent roofline system.
Compare camera-based versus signal-based TV synchronization, calibration requirements, TV-size compatibility, Matter support, app quality, ecosystem breadth, white-light performance, permanent versus temporary installation, repairability, replacement parts, and the full cost of hubs, controllers, extensions, and labor.

Govee’s IFA 2025 announcement represents two different kinds of upgrade. The TV Backlight 3 Pro is the more broadly useful and approachable product: its triple-camera HDR system, multi-zone calibration, higher-density RGBWWIC strip, DreamView integration, and Matter support target TV owners who want richer ambient lighting across built-in apps and external sources.
Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism is more visually ambitious but harder to justify unless its prismatic wall effect is exactly what the homeowner wants. Its price, installation demands, maintenance implications, and decorative—not functional—purpose should be assessed before purchase. Neither product should be selected solely because of brightness, color-count, or AI claims; the installation environment and the buyer’s intended use matter more.
