The current U.S. increase was not $30. Google’s former Nest Aware Plus subscription was renamed Google Home Premium Advanced on October 1, 2025. The clearest annual comparison is $150 to $200 before applicable taxes—an increase of $50. The $30 figure most likely refers to an earlier 2023 increase, a regional price change, or an account-specific billing difference.
Here is what changed, who is affected, what Advanced includes, and how to decide whether to keep it, downgrade, bundle it, or leave Google’s subscription system.

The short version
| Former plan | Current name | U.S. price | Recording benefits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nest Aware | Google Home Premium Standard | $10/month or $100/year | 30 days of event-based history |
| Nest Aware Plus | Google Home Premium Advanced | $20/month or $200/year | 60 days of event history plus up to 10 days of continuous history |
Google documents the renaming and current plan mapping in its Google Home Premium support information. Google’s announcement lists Standard at $10 monthly or $100 annually and Advanced at $20 monthly or $200 annually.
Do not compare the monthly and annual figures as though they are the same billing period. Twelve months at $20 costs $240, while annual billing costs $200—an effective $16.67 per month and a $40 saving compared with monthly billing.

- Search your video history with help from Gemini[3]; try something like “What happened to the vase in the living room?” to see a summary and relevant clips (subscription required)
Where did the “additional $30” figure come from?
The $30 figure should be treated as a claim to investigate, not as the latest U.S. increase. An earlier reported annual change took Nest Aware Plus from $120 to $150 in 2023, which is exactly a $30 increase. That history is discussed in Google Nest Community reports.
Other explanations are possible:
- A local-currency increase may have been approximately 30 units.
- A subscriber may be comparing monthly and annual billing.
- A promotional or grandfathered price may have ended.
- Taxes may have changed the amount charged at renewal.
- The account may have a different plan, billing channel, or legacy subscription.
Unless your own notice or invoice shows a $30 difference, the more defensible current U.S. comparison is $150 annually to $200 annually.
What Google Home Premium Advanced includes
Sixty days of event history
Advanced stores up to 60 days of event-based video history. These are clips associated with detected activity, such as a person, animal, vehicle, or other camera event.
Up to 10 days of continuous history
Advanced can provide up to 10 days of 24/7 continuous video history on compatible wired cameras and doorbells. This is not the same as 10 days of event history—and it is not 60 days of continuous recording.
Battery-powered devices generally cannot provide the same always-on recording because continuous recording requires a constant power source. Check your specific camera and doorbell model before paying for Advanced solely for this feature.

- Stay in the know with always-on power: Nest Cam Outdoor keeps you plugged into home, day and night, with no need to recharge or replace batteries
- Google Nest Cam Outdoor keeps your data safe with encrypted video, two-step verification, and enhanced security through your Google Account; and a green LED light lets you know when it’s processing or streaming video
- With an Advanced subscription to Google Home Premium, know more about what’s happening with notifications like “Rabbits eating garden plants”[3]; get even more detailed descriptions and tap to see a summary of what happened[3]
- Video is crisp and clear in 2K HDR, Nest Cam’s highest resolution yet[1,2]; see rich color and details, and see in the dark with night vision; a wider, taller field of view means almost nothing’s out of frame[1] – even in a long driveway or big yard
Whole-home coverage and alerts
The subscription is designed to cover compatible Nest cameras in the home rather than requiring a separate subscription for every camera. It also includes intelligent alerts and other Nest security features. This can be more convenient for a household with several cameras, although the value depends on your hardware and whether you would otherwise have paid for separate legacy plans.
Gemini-powered features
Google Home Premium adds newer Gemini-related camera and smart-home capabilities. Availability is not universal: it can depend on the device, country, language, Google Account type, software rollout, app version, and setup. Google’s feature information sheet provides additional qualification.

Subscribers billed directly by Google
Most current Google Account subscribers are the group affected by the move from Nest Aware Plus to Google Home Premium Advanced. Google says existing Google Account subscribers generally do not need to take action in the Google Home app simply because of the renaming.
Legacy first-generation Nest subscribers
First-generation Nest Aware subscriptions can be different. They may remain tied to individual cameras, use a legacy Nest Account, or preserve an older continuous-video-history arrangement. Do not assume that a legacy plan was automatically converted to Advanced. Check the account that actually manages the subscription.
ADT and other partner subscribers
A subscription purchased through a partner such as ADT may retain the Nest Aware name and may not follow the same direct-Google price-change rules. Google specifically distinguishes partner-provided services from subscriptions purchased directly from Google.

- If your Wi-Fi goes down or there’s a power outage, Nest Cam will store up to an hour of recorded events so you can see what you missed[4]. Nest Cam Outdoor comes with a wall plate that can be mounted on your brick wall.
- Put Nest Cam anywhere, outside or in; it’s battery powered, so you don’t need to set it up near an outlet, and the magnetic mount makes installation effortless
- For continuous power and 24/7 video recording with Nest Aware Plus, add a weatherproof power cable or indoor stand with power cable (both sold separately)
Monthly, annual, and promotional customers
Your renewal date depends on your billing cycle. A promotional rate can remain in effect until the promotion ends, and the final charge can include local taxes. Google says it generally emails subscribers about 30 days before a price increase in their country or territory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow to check your actual renewal price
- Open the Google Store subscription management area or your Google Play subscriptions.
- Check the plan name, billing interval, renewal date, and listed payment amount.
- If you use a first-generation Nest Account, check the legacy Nest Store subscription page instead.
- Read Google’s price-change email and note the effective date and any promotional end date.
- Confirm whether the amount is monthly or annual and whether tax is included.
- Check whether Google, Google Play, or a partner such as ADT is billing you.
Google explains billing cycles and location-based tax treatment in its payment and billing guidance. The amount shown in your account may therefore differ from the advertised $200 U.S. annual base price.
When did the higher price apply?
Subscriber notices reproduced in user reports said the new Nest Aware Plus price would apply to the first billing cycle on or after August 15, 2025, or after a promotional period ended, whichever was later. That date should not be treated as a universal billing date for every account; your notice and renewal screen control.
Google’s current guidance says subscribers should receive advance email notice of a price increase, generally about 30 days beforehand. A price increase does not by itself interrupt service. Cancellation is a separate action.
Is Advanced worth $200 per year?
| Your situation | Likely choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You need footage from any time in the last 60 days or need 24/7 recording | Keep Advanced | Standard removes the longer event history and continuous-history benefit. |
| You mainly need alerts and occasional event clips | Consider Standard | Thirty days of event history may be enough at $100 annually. |
| Your cameras are battery-powered | Compare carefully | You may not be able to use the continuous-recording feature. |
| You have several compatible cameras | Compare whole-home coverage | One plan can be more convenient than separate legacy camera subscriptions. |
| You already need Google storage and Gemini | Compare Google AI Pro | The bundle includes Standard, but not Advanced. |
| You want local recording and no recurring cloud fee | Consider another ecosystem | You may need compatible replacement hardware. |
Cheaper ways to keep basic Nest history
Downgrade to Standard
Google Home Premium Standard is listed at $10 per month or $100 per year and provides 30 days of event-based history. It is the most direct downgrade if you do not need continuous recording or 60 days of retention.

Compare Google AI Pro as a bundle
Google’s U.S. Google One plan materials list Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month and include Google Home Premium Standard, along with broader storage and AI benefits. Advanced may be available as a $10-per-month upgrade according to Google’s plan materials.
AI Pro is not automatically cheaper than standalone Advanced. At $19.99 monthly, it costs about $239.88 over 12 months before promotions or annual-plan differences. Consider it only if you also value its storage and AI tools or can replace another subscription.
Do not buy AI Ultra solely for Nest
Google AI Ultra includes Home Premium Advanced, but it is aimed at users who also want its wider AI, storage, and entertainment benefits. It is unlikely to make financial sense as a camera-recording purchase alone. Check the current plan page because Ultra pricing and promotions can change.
Remain on a legacy plan where appropriate
Some first-generation subscribers may prefer an existing setup, particularly if it supplies a continuous-history arrangement they do not want to change. Legacy plans can be less convenient for multiple cameras and may not support newer Google Home features, so compare the practical benefits before migrating.
Cancellation, migration, and common mistakes
Cancellation may not end service immediately
Do not assume cancellation means an immediate shutdown or an automatic refund. The billing platform, cancellation confirmation, service-end date, and applicable terms determine what happens. Save the confirmation and verify the date on which recording history and other benefits end.

Migration can change account management
Moving from a first-generation subscription to Google Home Premium requires migration to a Google Account. Google says a prorated refund for unused time may be available in some migrations. Review the displayed terms before confirming.
Do not confuse event and continuous history
This is the most important specification distinction: Standard offers 30 days of event history; Advanced offers 60 days of event history plus up to 10 days of continuous history on compatible wired devices.
Do not assume every camera gets every AI feature
New features may require a supported device, region, language, account, app version, or rollout. A higher subscription tier does not guarantee that every older Nest camera receives every new capability.

Alternatives if you want to leave Google’s subscription model
Readers who object to recurring price increases, want local storage, or need different monitoring options can investigate Ring Protect, Arlo Secure, eufy Security, or Reolink.
These are not universally cheaper or better. Compare the number of cameras, 24/7 recording support, cloud versus local storage, professional monitoring, existing hardware, Google Home compatibility, AI alerts, retention requirements, and the cost of replacing your cameras.
