Immediate Response Director Chris Chiles said volunteers were ready to address difficult cleanup work, including clearing trees from homes and covering damaged roofs, while also listening and praying with families. God’s Pit Crew says it will provide lodging and meals for volunteers. Its announcement does not specify volunteer qualifications, available positions, or assignment capacity.
Storm conditions reported by Florida
Florida’s October 10 state response update said Isaias made landfall near Destin at about 9:30 p.m. EDT on October 9 as a Category 2 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. The state update also reported a 116 mph gust near Santa Rosa Sound, a 100 mph gust near Pensacola, and water levels in Panama City Beach about 5.6 feet above average high tide. These are figures published by the state, not separate measurements in this article.

According to that update, after landfall the storm moved north through the western Panhandle into southern Alabama and weakened into a post-tropical cyclone early Saturday. The state reported approximately 448,298 customer accounts without power as of 7 a.m. on October 10. That is a dated snapshot, not a current outage count. Florida also said more than 16,000 linemen and restoration personnel had been positioned before the storm.

Florida’s state response update described broader coordination through Volunteer Florida, which was working with more than 100 Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster partners. The state advised people to coordinate volunteer efforts through Volunteer Connect and not self-deploy. For local resources, residents can use the county emergency-management contacts linked from the state update.

- Do not drive through flooded areas. Florida warns that floodwater can conceal debris or downed power lines.
- Follow county emergency-management instructions for local hazards and services.
- Do not climb onto a storm-damaged roof to place a tarp. Roof work can involve unstable surfaces, hidden structural damage, and electrical hazards; use trained responders or qualified professionals.
- Volunteer through a coordinated organization rather than arriving at a disaster area on your own.
