What could happen in later phases?
Phases two and three are described as work on the former volunteer fire department garage and the cafeteria building. The cafeteria is intended for classroom and event-rental use. The community organization is seeking grants to cover the later phases, but no schedule or total funding amount has been confirmed.
Who is responsible for the community center?
A fiscal year 2024 funding request from the Office of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene names the Oostanaula School Community Club Inc. as the entity to receive funding for the Historic Oostanaula School Community Center project. It gives the center’s address as 1595 Oostanaula Bend Rd SW, Calhoun, GA 30701. The letter is a funding request, not confirmation that the requested money was awarded. In that letter, Greene wrote, “I am requesting funding for the Oostanaula School Community Center Renovation Project in fiscal year 2024.” The request also credits the nonprofit with almost 50 years of services and over $1 million raised for medical bills, funeral expenses and other community needs. The letter’s visible text does not give a publication year for those figures.
