In SlashGear’s June 4, 2026 ranking, the Worx Nitro 20V Cordless Pruning Shear/Lopper takes first place and the Scotts 7.2V Power Pruner finishes tenth. That is an editorial ranking, not the result of one controlled test comparing all ten tools: SlashGear says its assessment drew on sales data, online reviews and videos, the author’s use of about half the products, and conversations with landscapers and arborists. Here is the list in the same order, with the reported specifications and the qualifications that matter when comparing them.
For a separate hands-on perspective, BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine tested six battery-powered pruners in a garden and chose the STIHL ASA 20 for ease of use, the ALPEN Wildhorn 32 as its premium pick, and the Worx WG330E as its value pick. Those results provide useful context, but they do not validate SlashGear’s complete ten-product ranking.

Electric pruners ranked from worst to best
The ranking below follows SlashGear’s published order, from #10 to #1. The cut capacities and cut counts are figures reported by SlashGear, generally as product or manufacturer claims; they are not results from a standardized test of all ten models. Battery condition, branch species and moisture, cut diameter, setting, and counting method can all affect practical performance.
10. Scotts 7.2V Power Pruner
SlashGear presents the Scotts as an affordable step up from a manual pruner for larger workloads. It reports user complaints about blades dulling early, short battery life, uneven cuts on thin stems, and occasional jams. The article says American Lawn Mower makes the tool under license and mentions a compatible 5.5-foot pole attachment; confirm compatibility for the exact model before buying an accessory. Its roughly $95 Amazon price was reported in June 2026 and should not be treated as a current quote.

9. Black + Decker 20V Max Cordless Pruner Kit
SlashGear reports the product’s claims of one cut per second, up to 900 cuts per charge, and capacity for branches up to 1 inch. Its article describes the 20V battery as adding weight while fitting the brand’s tool platform. The kit it discussed included a 1.5Ah battery and charger, with a price of about $90 at the time; check present kit contents and price rather than assuming that bundle remains available.
8. Dragro Electric Pruning Shears
SlashGear describes this as an affordable kit that includes two batteries and reports capacity for branches of roughly 1.2 inches. It notes positive marketplace-review impressions but also flags that the safety shutoff was not immediate. Marketplace reviews are not controlled performance or safety evidence, so check the exact model’s manual, safety sequence, service support, and replacement-part availability before relying on it for regular work.
7. Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Pruner
SlashGear distinguishes the HP brushless version, which it says can cut up to 1 inch, from the standard model’s reported ¾-inch capacity. The author’s drawbacks were wrist strain during extended use, a trigger that could dig into the hand, and price relative to competitors. Those are one reviewer’s handling observations, not universal fit assessments; try the tool with its battery installed if possible.

6. STIHL ASA 20 Cordless Secateurs
In its June 2026 update, SlashGear said the US release date was unconfirmed and described some details, including an estimate of 2,000 cuts, as preview or rumor. Availability is region-specific: BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine tested the ASA 20 in the UK, rated it 4.8/5, and named it its ease-of-use pick. That review reports a 25 mm maximum cut, 0.8 kg weight, up to 2,000 cuts, and a two-year warranty. Do not infer US availability or identical regional specifications from the UK review.
5. Milwaukee M12 Brushless Pruning Shears
SlashGear reports capacity up to 1¼ inches, a faster reduced-power mode, and a 3.3-pound weight. It also reports up to 1,000 half-inch cuts per battery; that cut-count figure is tied to the stated half-inch cut size, not a promise for larger branches or every working condition. The article described the tool as part of Milwaukee’s M12 battery platform and quoted prices of around $150 bare tool or $250 as a kit. Both prices are time-sensitive, and bare-tool and kit costs are not equivalent.
4. Felco 834W Electric Pruning Shear
SlashGear reports a 1.34-inch capacity and a weight a little over 2 pounds. Features it describes include a progressive trigger, gold-coated blade, light, finger-contact safety feature, and a kit with two batteries, charger, accessories, and case. Its reported kit price was $850 in June 2026, so verify the current price and included items for the exact seller and market.

SlashGear reports up to 1.25-inch capacity, up to 900 cuts per charge, and a weight of 4.6 pounds. It also notes a battery power meter and tool-free blade changes. Treat the output and cut-count figures as reported product figures, not head-to-head test results; the article does not establish common branch or battery conditions across the ranked tools.

1. Worx Nitro 20V Cordless Pruning Shear/Lopper
SlashGear ranks the Worx Nitro first, citing a brushless motor, reported capacity up to 1 inch, and praise for balance, speed, light weight, and comfort. It says the tool was offered bare or in a kit and that its batteries work across Worx PowerShare 20V, 40V, and 80V tools at publication. The article’s praise reflects its mixed assessment method, not a controlled comparison with all nine other pruners.

A similarly named UK model, the Worx WG330E, is not automatically the same variant as the Nitro 20V. BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine rated the WG330E 4.3/5 and chose it as its value pick. Its review reports 25 mm capacity, up to 2,500 cuts per full battery, two cutting widths, progressive cutting, a two-trigger start, no blade cover, and a three-year warranty when registered. Verify the model suffix and market listing before applying those specifications or warranty terms to another Worx model.

The two articles answer different questions. SlashGear ranks ten products using a blend of sales information, online material, the author’s experience with about half the tools, and conversations with local landscaping professionals. BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine describes unpacking and fully charging six pruners, then using them on stems and branches of different sizes and on different trees and shrubs. It assessed handling, performance, design, and value; its guide says all six tested models had bypass blades.

Choose a pruner for the work, not just its ranking
Match cut capacity to your actual branches
Start with the typical stem and branch diameters you need to cut, not the largest number in a product description. A headline maximum does not establish how comfortably or cleanly the tool handles repeated cuts at that diameter. If your work is mostly small stems, a larger claimed capacity may be less important than grip comfort and weight.
Estimate workload and check the battery arrangement
Think about the number and size of cuts in a session, then check whether the quoted cut count applies to a specified branch diameter and whether batteries are included. A bare tool may be a better fit if you already own compatible batteries; a kit can be more practical if you do not. Confirm compatibility for the exact battery platform and model rather than assuming tools with similar voltage share batteries.
Consider weight, balance, and trigger feel
Total working weight can differ from a bare-tool figure once a battery is attached. For long sessions, balance and hand position matter alongside weight: a trigger or grip that feels comfortable briefly may become tiring with repeated use. If possible, handle the battery-equipped tool before choosing, especially if wrist or hand strength is a concern.
Check safety, maintenance, warranty, and kit contents
- Safety: Read the exact model’s manual and learn its trigger sequence, lock, blade-cover or storage behavior, and shutoff operation. The cited sources describe different safety features but do not provide a standardized comparison of injury risk.
- Maintenance: Verify how to clean and sharpen the blade, whether it can be replaced, and which replacement parts fit the exact model. The available comparisons do not establish universal blade or accessory compatibility.
- Warranty and ownership: Confirm regional warranty terms, registration requirements, battery availability, and service support for the model suffix you are buying.
- Price: Compare like with like: bare tool against bare tool, or kit against kit with the battery and charger included. Prices quoted in a June 2026 article may have changed.
When an electric pruner makes sense
Electric pruners are most compelling for frequent, repetitive pruning or for people who want to reduce the hand effort involved. For occasional garden maintenance, a manual pruner—or a more basic powered option—may be enough. The useful choice is the one that suits your branch sizes, session length, hand comfort, battery situation, and local availability; the #1 position alone cannot settle those questions.
