Check the exact Eufy configuration before buying. A headline price may refer to one camera, a kit, a storage bundle, or a temporary promotion.
What makes the eufyCam S4 different?
The S4 is not simply a fixed outdoor camera. It combines two camera systems in one housing:
- A 4K fixed bullet camera with a stated 130-degree view.
- A lower dual-2K PTZ camera that can pan, tilt, track subjects, and zoom.
Eufy claims a combined field of view of up to 210 degrees, a 355-degree pan range, a 70-degree tilt range, and up to 8x hybrid zoom. The practical idea is straightforward: the fixed lens keeps watching the wider scene while the PTZ lens follows a person or vehicle for a closer view.

It also advertises automatic framing when multiple subjects enter the scene. That may reduce the need to install separate fixed and PTZ cameras, although it does not eliminate blind spots. Walls, trees, eaves, mounting position, and the PTZ camera’s changing viewpoint still matter.
Solar charging: useful, but not unlimited
The S4 includes a detachable solar panel and Eufy’s SolarPlus 2.0 system. Eufy says approximately one hour of direct sunlight per day can keep the camera running. That is a manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee for every installation.

Actual charging performance depends on panel orientation, shade, season, latitude, weather, motion activity, recording frequency, temperature, and battery condition. A panel mounted beneath an overhang or in persistent shade may perform very differently from one with unobstructed sunlight.
For a construction site, driveway, side passage, or large garden, mount the panel where it receives direct light—not merely where the camera has a clear view. Leave clearance for the PTZ mechanism and test the camera after dark as well as during daylight.

No, not for basic standalone operation. The camera includes 32GB of built-in storage, supports expansion up to 256GB with a separately purchased microSD card, and provides on-device human, vehicle, and pet detection.
HomeBase becomes important for additional features. When connected to a HomeBase S380, Eufy says the S4 can access:
- BionicMind AI features, including family-versus-stranger differentiation
- Expanded HomeBase storage of up to 16TB
- Cross-camera tracking
- 24/7 smart snapshots
- Some continuous-recording functions
These capabilities should not be treated as identical in every setup. The standalone camera, HomeBase-connected camera, and continuously powered camera have different requirements.

What does 24/7 recording require?
Event recording and continuous recording are different use cases. Eufy’s listing ties 24/7 recording to particular hardware, firmware, app, storage, and power conditions.

The stated requirements include:
- HomeBase S380 for the relevant enhanced recording features
- HomeBase firmware version V3.7.2.8 or later
- The latest Eufy app
- Camera firmware V1.0.5.4 or later for continuous recording through direct power
- A suitable power adapter for direct-powered continuous recording
Do not assume that solar-powered, wire-free operation automatically provides uninterrupted 24/7 video. Continuous recording can use substantially more energy than motion-triggered event recording and may require a wired power arrangement.
Detection, night vision, and deterrence
The S4 lists radar and PIR motion sensors, human, vehicle, and pet detection, four LED spotlights for color night vision, a 105dB siren, and red and blue warning lights.
Eufy also specifies subject tracking at distances of up to 164 feet. That is a manufacturer specification, not a guaranteed identification distance in every lighting or installation condition. Detection is not the same as recognition: identifying that something is present does not guarantee a clear face or license plate, especially at night, at a distance, or while the PTZ lens is moving.
Does it require a subscription?
No subscription is required for basic local-storage operation. However, the official product page displays an optional Eufy Plus membership priced at $15 per month, with cloud-backup-related benefits.

That means “no subscription” should be understood as “no recurring plan required for the basic local-storage setup,” not as a guarantee that every feature is available without optional cloud services. Buyers should also account for the cost of a microSD card, HomeBase, a hard drive, or direct power if their intended setup needs them.
What should be in the box?
Check the exact SKU rather than assuming every S4 listing contains the same equipment. The important distinctions are:
- Standalone camera versus two- or four-camera kit
- Whether HomeBase S380 is included
- Whether a 1TB hard drive is included
- Whether a microSD card is included
- Whether a power adapter is included
- Mounting hardware and solar-panel components
The official listings show several configurations, so the price alone does not tell you what storage, hub, or accessories you are receiving.

The S4 is best suited to a location where one camera needs to cover a broad outdoor area while also following moving subjects. Before permanently mounting it:

- Check Wi-Fi coverage at the proposed camera position.
- Position the fixed lens to preserve the widest useful overview.
- Keep the PTZ path clear of walls, branches, roof edges, and other obstructions.
- Mount the solar panel in direct light, with an angle that remains useful through the year.
- Plan for power if continuous recording matters.
- Test motion zones and night footage before finalizing the installation.
- Respect privacy by avoiding neighboring homes, private areas, and places where people reasonably expect not to be recorded.
Use strong account credentials and two-factor authentication where available. Local storage and cloud backup are separate privacy and security choices, and local footage can still be lost if the camera or storage device is stolen or damaged.

Is the eufyCam S4 worth $349.99?
The S4 is most compelling when you need one outdoor unit to provide both a broad overview and automated tracking. It could suit a large yard, driveway, side passage, or construction property where installing separate fixed and PTZ cameras would be inconvenient.
It is less attractive if you only need a basic fixed camera, want the lowest possible upfront cost, or expect guaranteed continuous recording from solar power alone. The total cost can rise quickly once you add HomeBase, storage, wired power, or multiple cameras.
Its most important trade-off is inherent to PTZ tracking: the moving lens can follow a subject, but its viewing angle changes. The fixed 4K camera helps preserve the wider context, yet the system still depends on careful placement and cannot guarantee coverage of every angle.
Alternatives worth considering
Eufy SoloCam S340
Eufy’s US wireless-camera collection lists the SoloCam S340 at $199.99. It is the simpler, lower-cost choice for buyers who do not need the S4’s triple-lens Bullet-PTZ design.
eufyCam S3 Pro
Eufy’s battery-camera collection lists an eufyCam S3 Pro four-camera kit at $799.99 and a four-camera kit with 1TB storage at $849.99 in the indexed listing. It may suit buyers who prefer a more conventional multi-camera system with several viewpoints rather than the S4’s integrated fixed-plus-PTZ approach.
eufy 4G LTE Cam S330
The 4G LTE Cam S330 is listed at $199.99 on Eufy’s US camera pages. It is aimed at locations with weak or unavailable Wi-Fi, although cellular connectivity brings separate data-plan and coverage considerations.
Bottom line
The eufyCam S4 is now listed at $349.99 for one standalone camera in the US. It offers an unusual combination of 4K fixed coverage, dual-2K PTZ tracking, solar charging, and local storage without requiring HomeBase for basic use. But the original $299.99 launch price is no longer the current listed figure, multi-camera kits are considerably more expensive, and advanced recording features may require HomeBase, updated firmware, extra storage, and direct power.
