This does not mean that every eufy HomeBase generation offers identical support. The clearest product-specific documentation for the 2C describes HomeBase 2, so buyers should not assume that moving the camera to HomeBase 3 will reproduce the same HomeKit behavior without model- and firmware-specific confirmation.
You also need an Apple Home setup with a compatible Apple operating system, the Apple Account associated with your Home, a Home hub such as a HomePod or Apple TV, and an eligible iCloud storage plan. eufy’s older device guidance uses iOS 13.4 or later as a baseline for this camera family. Apple can change its current HomeKit Secure Video requirements and iCloud plan structure, so check the current Apple requirements before buying specifically for HomeKit.
HomeKit, HomeKit Secure Video and the eufy app are different
The 2C behaves differently depending on which interface you use. HomeKit integration is valuable for Apple Home control and automations, but the eufy app retains controls that Apple Home does not expose for this product family.
| Function | HomeKit | HomeKit Secure Video | eufy app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live view | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Remote access | Home hub required | Home hub required | Yes |
| Two-way audio | Not listed by eufy for this integration | Not listed by eufy for this integration | Yes |
| Local HomeBase storage | No | No | Yes |
| iCloud video storage | No | Yes | No, unless using eufy cloud services |
| Apple Home automations and Siri | Yes | Yes | No |
| Adjustable motion sensitivity | No | No | Yes |
| Person, pet and vehicle analysis | No | Yes, through the Home hub | eufy’s own AI features |
| Activity zones | Limited by mode | Supported on newer iOS versions | Yes |
These distinctions come from eufy’s feature comparison. Actual behavior can also depend on firmware, Apple Home software and whether the camera remains configured in the eufy app.
HomeKit does not make HomeBase storage and iCloud storage the same thing
In an Apple Home-only setup, HomeKit Secure Video recordings are stored in the user’s iCloud storage under Apple’s HomeKit system. That is separate from recordings retained locally by HomeBase through the eufy app.
eufy says that if the system is also added to its app, HomeBase can retain a separate local backup. Therefore, “no eufy subscription” does not mean “no cloud service.” The local eufy path can avoid a mandatory eufy recording subscription, while HomeKit Secure Video still depends on an eligible iCloud plan. eufy’s product-specific documentation identifies a 200GB-or-higher plan, but that is older guidance and should be checked against Apple’s current regional requirements.
There is also a privacy distinction: HomeKit Secure Video uses iCloud for recordings, while some eufy features, including thumbnail notifications, may involve cloud transmission. Read the current privacy documentation if minimizing cloud processing is a deciding factor.
Is the 180-day battery claim realistic?
It is a manufacturer estimate, not a six-month guarantee. The advertised figure depends on conditions such as motion frequency, clip length, detection sensitivity, wireless conditions, temperature, spotlight use, retransmission behavior and the selected recording mode. A camera watching a quiet side gate has a very different workload from one aimed at a sidewalk, driveway or road.
HomeKit Secure Video can also increase the practical workload because the camera must wake, stream and handle events as part of the HomeKit system. A detailed 9to5Mac review reported roughly four to five weeks of battery life with HomeKit, depending on conditions. That is a documented review experience rather than a universal benchmark, and it should not be compared with eufy’s figure as though both were controlled laboratory tests.
The sensible buying assumption is this: battery life may range from several months in a quiet, carefully configured installation to far less in a high-traffic HomeKit installation. If reliable six-month operation is essential, the 2C is a risky choice.
What shortens battery life?
- Frequent motion from people, vehicles, trees or changing shadows.
- High motion sensitivity and long recording periods.
- Repeated live viewing or two-way conversations.
- Weak wireless communication between the camera and HomeBase.
- Cold weather.
- Repeated spotlight use.
- Heavy HomeKit recording and notification activity.
How to extend runtime
- Choose Optimal Battery Life mode.
- Reduce motion sensitivity if the camera produces unnecessary alerts.
- Turn off the status LED if it is not needed.
- Use scheduling or geofencing to reduce surveillance when appropriate.
- Use activity zones where available.
- Point the camera away from roads, busy sidewalks, moving branches and other recurring triggers.
The first four recommendations are listed by eufy; activity-zone and placement advice follows from the way motion-triggered battery cameras operate. For a consistently busy location, wired or solar power is usually a better solution than repeatedly optimizing a battery camera.
Video quality: 1080p is both a limit and an advantage
The original 2C is a 1080p camera, so HomeKit Secure Video’s 1080p limit does not impose a major resolution reduction. It does mean, however, that the 2C’s native footage is less detailed than newer 2K and 4K cameras. It is suitable for general awareness, but distant faces, license plates, fine detail, night motion and high-contrast scenes are more demanding.
Expect the usual trade-offs of a wire-free battery camera: motion can blur while the camera wakes and records, and a fast-moving person may be partly out of frame before the camera is fully active. A spotlight can improve color visibility in darkness, while night vision is more discreet but will not create detail that the sensor cannot capture.
Do not confuse the 2C with the eufyCam 2C Pro. The Pro model is 2K natively, but eufy’s support information says HomeKit Secure Video reduces its HomeKit output to 1080p. eufy also uses the name S220 for the 2C Pro listing, which increases the risk of buying the wrong model.

Installation and network requirements
HomeBase 2 must be powered and connected to the network during setup. eufy’s FAQ says initial setup requires an Ethernet connection; after setup, HomeBase 2 can use Wi-Fi. The camera itself communicates with HomeBase rather than connecting directly to a 5GHz router network. eufy’s documentation describes the relevant system as supporting 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and the 2C is not a PoE camera.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThat distinction matters. A strong 5GHz signal at the camera does not guarantee good performance because the camera-to-HomeBase wireless link is a separate connection. Place HomeBase where it can communicate reliably with the cameras and where its connection to the router is stable.
eufy’s documentation says this eufyCam system supports up to four cameras for HomeKit, with another HomeBase 2 potentially required for additional groups of four. Treat that as a manufacturer-specific system limitation, not a universal Apple Home limit.
How to set up eufyCam 2C with HomeKit Secure Video
Before pairing
- Update the iPhone or iPad and HomeBase 2.
- Charge the cameras.
- Connect HomeBase 2 to the router.
- Sign in to iCloud and configure the Home app.
- Confirm that a Home hub is active.
- Keep each camera close to HomeBase during pairing.
Recommended setup sequence
- Power on HomeBase 2 and connect it to the network.
- Check the QR code on the bottom of HomeBase 2. If it includes the Home symbol, try adding the base directly in Apple’s Home app.
- If direct scanning is unavailable or fails, add HomeBase 2 to the eufy Security app first.
- Pair the 2C by placing it near HomeBase and holding its Sync button for about two seconds, until it beeps.
- In the eufy app, open HomeBase settings and find the HomeKit setup or authentication option.
- Enable HomeKit and allow the system to synchronize with the Home app.
- In Apple Home, set recording behavior, household and away modes, activity zones and notifications. For recording, the relevant choice is Stream & Allow Recording.
- Keep the eufy app installed if you need eufy-specific settings, local backup or battery-management controls.
eufy publishes both direct-add and app-first paths because HomeBase units can differ. Its HomeKit setup guidance explains the two routes.
If HomeKit setup fails
- Update HomeBase 2 and camera firmware.
- Confirm that the camera is paired with HomeBase 2, not another base.
- Check that the phone uses the Apple Account associated with the intended Home.
- Verify that a Home hub is active and that the iCloud setup is eligible.
- If direct Apple Home scanning fails, use the eufy-app-first route.
- Remove and re-add HomeBase only after recording existing eufy settings and understanding what will be reset.
If the camera works in eufy but not Apple Home, the problem is more likely to be HomeKit configuration, the hub, firmware or the bridge connection than failed camera hardware.

The compact, wire-free design is the 2C’s strongest practical advantage. It can suit a side gate, detached garage, driveway or rental property where running power cable is difficult. The published IP67 rating supports outdoor placement, but it does not eliminate the need for sensible mounting.
Mount the camera where water cannot collect around the charging port, avoid unnecessary direct exposure when a protected position is available, and leave enough access to remove it for charging. Aim across the expected path of movement rather than directly along it, while remembering that battery cameras can miss the beginning of fast events as they wake.
Main strengths
- Wire-free installation: useful where permanent power is impractical.
- Apple Home integration: camera events can sit alongside other Home accessories and participate in Apple Home automations when the required hub is present.
- No mandatory eufy recording subscription: local HomeBase storage is available through the eufy path.
- Weather resistance: the published IP67 rating is appropriate for outdoor use with proper mounting.
- Basic security features: person detection, night vision, spotlight, siren and two-way audio are available, although not identically in both apps.
Main weaknesses
- Battery expectations: HomeKit use and frequent motion can make the 180-day claim unrealistic.
- HomeBase dependency: a camera-only purchase is not a complete system.
- Aging image quality: 1080p is usable but behind current 2K and 4K products.
- Feature gaps in Apple Home: eufy lists two-way audio and adjustable sensitivity in its app comparison, but not in the HomeKit interface for this family.
- Two storage paths: HomeKit recording and local HomeBase backup must not be assumed to be duplicates.
- Used-market battery wear: eufy rates the battery at approximately 300 charging cycles, so an older camera may have substantially reduced capacity.
Is it worth buying in 2026?
As of August 18, 2026, eufy’s U.S. camera listings prominently feature newer products and the 2C Pro/S220 rather than presenting the original 2C as a normal current kit. Availability, warranty coverage and battery condition therefore matter as much as the specification sheet.
Buy used when
- You already own a functioning HomeBase 2.
- The camera or kit is substantially cheaper than current alternatives.
- You can verify battery health, firmware and pairing status.
- 1080p is sufficient.
- The location has low or moderate motion.
- You accept charging anywhere from every few weeks to several months, depending on conditions.
Buy new or old stock only when
The price is heavily discounted, the seller can verify genuine stock and warranty support, and the limitations are acceptable. Do not infer a current original-2C retail price from a 2C Pro/S220 listing.
Skip it when
- You need dependable six-month battery life.
- The camera faces a busy street or driveway.
- You want 2K or 4K footage inside Apple Home.
- You do not already have HomeBase 2 and the complete system cost approaches a newer kit.
- The camera is mission-critical and missed events would be unacceptable.
- You want an entirely Apple-only setup with no eufy app.
Alternatives to consider
The right alternative depends on whether battery operation or Apple Home simplicity matters more.
- eufyCam 2C Pro/S220: a similar eufy form factor with native 2K video and a claimed 180-day battery life, but HomeKit still limits output to 1080p. The official listing is relevant primarily to existing HomeBase 2 owners: eufyCam 2C Pro/S220.
- Logitech Circle View: a more Apple-focused choice for buyers who can provide wired power. It is not a replacement for a remote, wire-free installation.
- Eve Cam: useful for indoor, wired HomeKit installations, but not an outdoor battery substitute.
- Aqara G5 Pro Outdoor Camera Hub: a newer outdoor HomeKit direction, but it is not a drop-in battery replacement and may require the Aqara ecosystem.
- Newer eufy lines: products such as the E40 and S3 Pro offer newer hardware, but HomeKit support must be verified model by model rather than assumed because they use the eufy brand or a HomeBase.
Apple’s HomeKit camera category is a useful starting point for buyers who prioritize Apple Home over battery operation. For newer eufy hardware, consult the current eufy camera collection and verify HomeKit compatibility for the exact model.
Final recommendation
The eufyCam 2C remains a viable low-cost HomeKit Secure Video camera for an existing HomeBase 2 owner, especially in a quiet outdoor location where 1080p is adequate. It is not a sensible premium purchase in 2026 when its price approaches a newer system.
Its most important limitation is not HomeKit compatibility—it genuinely has that—but battery behavior. Treat 180 days as eufy’s best-case estimate, not the expected result for a busy HomeKit camera. If you buy one, judge the deal by the complete system cost, HomeBase 2 availability, battery age, warranty and charging workload.
