That is a claim about the epoxy system—not proof that an enclosure or completed assembly made with it is UL 1203 certified. Confirm the certification and markings for the complete equipment and the intended location before specifying the material.
What UL 1203 covers
UL 1203 is titled “ExplosionProof and Dust-IgnitionProof Electrical Equipment for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations.” UL Standards & Engagement lists it as active, Edition 6, published July 10, 2023, with a latest revision dated May 30, 2024. The revision adds a marking for component enclosures tested for explosion pressure and the propagation effects of short-circuit testing with circuit breakers. See UL’s UL 1203 listing.
The standard covers specified electrical equipment for hazardous locations, including Class I, Division 1, Groups A through D; Class II, Division 1, Groups E through G; and stated Zone applications, including Class I Zone 1 and dust Zones 20, 21 and 22. Suitability depends on the applicable requirements and equipment markings; the standard’s scope is not blanket approval for every material or application.
Which epoxy does the manufacturer say meets UL 1203?
Master Bond identifies EP41S-6 as a two-component epoxy system that meets UL 1203. The manufacturer lists bonding, sealing, coating, potting, casting, encapsulation and gap filling among its applications. This identifies a product to investigate; it does not establish that EP41S-6 is the only suitable compound or that every use of it is covered by a particular equipment certification.

Manufacturer-listed properties and processing
Master Bond reports typical viscosity of 30,000–60,000 cps, hardness of 85–95 Shore D, dielectric strength of 440 volts per mil, and a service-temperature range of −80°F to +500°F. Its recommended cure schedule is overnight at 75°F, followed by 6–8 hours at 150–250°F; the stated mix ratio is 100:25 by weight. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Check the current technical and safety data sheets and assess whether the properties and process suit the actual design.
Does the epoxy claim certify a finished enclosure?
No. A material claim does not, by itself, certify the enclosure, electrical equipment or assembly that incorporates the material. UL explains that hazardous-location certification addresses both ordinary-location safety requirements and hazardous-location explosion-protection requirements, and involves evaluation, testing and production control. The certification applies to the evaluated product and its conditions—not automatically to every material used in it. Read UL’s North American hazardous-location certification overview.

- Dries clear: Our Gorilla Tough epoxy resin dries clear for a clean finish and incredibly durable hold; perfect for household and automotive repairs
- 5 minute epoxy: This epoxy resin kit in just one applicator has a 5 minute set time, plenty for repositioning and adjusting
- Gap filling: Gorilla resin epoxy also acts as a gap filler, filling voids and bonding uneven or vertical surfaces
- Water resistant: Our clear epoxy resin withstands moderate exposure to water for extra durability
- Easy-to-use syringe: Gorilla Epoxy has separate barrels of epoxy resin and hardener to keep the epoxy from hardening; the syringes dispense evenly and include a cap for multiple uses
Before relying on an epoxy in hazardous-location equipment, verify the certification record and markings for the complete product and match them to the intended location. Check the class, division or zone, group, and any other applicable restrictions. UL describes Product iQ and certification records as tools for confirming certification information. If the finished equipment or intended use is unclear, resolve that with the equipment manufacturer or the responsible certification body before construction or installation.

In a manufacturer release, Master Bond says samples were exposed to chemical vapors for 168 hours, then observed for physical changes and tested for crushing force. The company reports that EP41S-6 retained at least 85% of its original crushing force after exposure. Read Master Bond’s account of the testing. This is the manufacturer’s reported method and result; the sources cited here do not independently reproduce or validate the test. Do not treat it as proof of compatibility with every chemical, exposure condition or end-use assembly.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Ready-to-use liquid weld for rigid parts: Metal epoxy glue bonds aluminum, steel, stainless, and cast iron; also wood, ceramic, glass, rigid plastics, and concrete—ideal for auto repair, marine hardware, plumbing leak repair, and home fixes.
- 30‑minute working time, 24‑hour cure: True 1:1 mix lets you align, clamp, and build thickness. Cures to a dense, steel‑like mass up to 4680 PSI; repair is drillable, sandable, fileable, and paintable for clean finishes.
- Built for real conditions: After full cure it’s waterproof, oil‑ and chemical‑resistant, and handles ‑85°F to 356°F—reliable in engine bays, outdoor equipment, shop use, boats, and garages.
- Clean, controlled application: Pre‑filled dual syringe meters the ratio accurately; paste‑like, no‑drip formula stays put on vertical or overhead surfaces—great for brackets, housings, radiators (non‑pressurized), tools, patio furniture, and fences.
- Strong repair tips + limits: Scuff/degrease, mix 1:1, spread 0.5–1 in beyond damage, clamp, and reinforce stress points with mesh/patch/bracket; allow 24 hrs before load or machining. Not for PE, PP, PTFE, silicone, rubber‑like or flexible parts, moving joints, or pressure‑critical lines.

How to evaluate EP41S-6 for a project
- Identify the hazardous-location designation. Establish the required class, division or zone and group for the location and equipment.
- Check the complete equipment’s certification. Confirm that the equipment—not only a constituent material—is certified and marked for the exact intended application.
- Review the epoxy documentation. Confirm the specified application, mix ratio, cure schedule and relevant properties against the current product documentation and the design.
- Confirm process and chemical fit. Assess the actual substrate, joint or gap, operating conditions, chemical exposure and production process. Do not extend the reported vapor test to conditions it does not describe.
- Resolve uncertainty before specifying. Ask the equipment manufacturer or certification body whether the proposed material and process are acceptable within the equipment’s certification.
