Numatic Henry HVR160 Review: A Practical All-Rounder for UK Homes

The standard Henry HVR160 is a roomy, long-reach bagged vacuum for routine dry cleaning and mixed household jobs, but carpet-heavy homes should weigh its combination head against alternatives such as Henry Xtra.

The standard Numatic Henry HVR160 is a sensible choice for routine dry cleaning if you want a corded, bagged cylinder vacuum with a large drum, long reach and tools for mixed household jobs. It is less convincing as a dedicated deep-carpet cleaner: Ideal Home reviewer Helen McCue reported that it handled general tasks well but did not thoroughly clean her carpets week to week. The “reliable” label is supported by Numatic’s own claims and McCue’s report that she still owns her reviewed machine, not by an independent comparative reliability study.

Is the Henry HVR160 any good?

For a UK household that values straightforward operation, capacity and versatility over specialist carpet performance, the standard HVR160 is a capable all-rounder. Numatic lists it for carpets, hard floors, stairs, cars and DIY clean-up, and its combination floor tool and onboard storage suit everyday switching between tasks. The manual restricts it to indoor collection of dry material.

Helen McCue, reviewing the vacuum for Ideal Home, described it as low-maintenance and useful for car cleaning and DIY jobs, including fine dust after sanding. She also said she did not think its suction thoroughly cleaned her carpets week to week. That is one reviewer’s experience rather than a controlled comparison, so carpet-heavy households should compare floor heads and real carpet performance before choosing.

Reliability is a more qualified part of the verdict. Numatic makes reliability claims in its product material, and McCue reported still owning her review unit after reviewing it in 2023. The available evidence does not establish an independent comparative reliability dataset or methodology, so it cannot support a ranking against other vacuums. Read Ideal Home’s hands-on review.

What do the HVR160 specifications mean in practice?

These figures refer to the standard HVR160/HVR160-11, not Henry Eco, Xtra, Allergy, cordless or larger-capacity variants. Numatic’s 2023 HVR160-11 technical sheet identifies product reference 902395 and the AS0 kit.

Which tools come with the standard HVR160?

Numatic’s HVR160-11 technical sheet specifies the AS0 kit. It includes a 2 m FloMax conical hose, stainless steel bend and extension tubes, a 280 mm ProFlo combination floor tool, and a Handy Kit. The combination head is intended to cover both carpet and hard-floor use; it is not the motorised carpet brush Ideal Home identifies on Henry Xtra.

Kit contents can differ across listings and markets, so verify the exact model and included accessories before buying. Numatic presents the HVR160 as suitable for stairs, cars and DIY clean-up as well as floors, but those uses remain subject to its dry-use restriction.

How does the HVR160 handle bags, filters and fine dust?

The HVR160 is a bagged vacuum with two-stage filtration described by Numatic: dust is collected in a HepaFlo bag and a TriTex filter. The technical sheet names NVM-1CH Hepa Dust Bags and TriTex filter 909560 for the specified HVR160-11. Confirm these part numbers against the model and regional listing when buying replacements. The “HepaFlo” bag name is not evidence that the vacuum’s exhaust filtration carries a separate HEPA classification.

The manual advises changing bags frequently and keeping filters clean. It recommends an original Numatic filter bag when collecting fine dust. McCue’s report of using the HVR160 after sanding is an individual experience, not a substitute for following the manufacturer’s guidance or using appropriate dust controls for hazardous materials. Numatic’s technical sheet lists the bag and filter part numbers; the HVR160 user manual gives operating and maintenance guidance.

Can the Henry HVR160 pick up water or workshop dust?

No. The official manual states: “This machine is for DRY USE only and must not be stored outside or used in wet conditions.” It is not a wet-and-dry vacuum, and the manual says it is not suitable for hazardous or explosive dust. Do not use it for wet spills or assume that a general-purpose DIY label makes it appropriate for hazardous workshop materials.

Is Henry good on carpets, and should you compare the HVR160 with Henry Xtra?

The HVR160’s combination floor head offers general carpet and hard-floor use, but the hands-on evidence is qualified: McCue found the vacuum useful overall yet felt it did not thoroughly clean her carpets week to week. If much of your home is carpeted, compare the HVR160 with Henry Xtra. Ideal Home notes that Xtra’s AiroBrush motorised carpet tool may better suit carpet-heavy homes and that Xtra has a larger 9 L bag capacity.

What warranty applies, and what should you check before buying?

MyHenry currently advertises a three-year warranty and an additional year for eligible cylinder vacuum purchases made directly and registered. The extra year is conditional, not an automatic four-year warranty for every HVR160 purchase. Check the seller, region, eligibility criteria, registration steps and current terms with MyHenry’s warranty information.

  • Confirm the listing is for the standard HVR160 or HVR160-11, rather than a related Henry variant.
  • Check the kit contents, especially the floor tool and included accessories.
  • For replacements, match NVM-1CH bags and TriTex filter 909560 to the exact model and regional fit.
  • If carpets dominate your home, compare carpet-head design and performance with Henry Xtra and other options you are considering.
