Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Englander’s manuals and code meanings vary by unit, so treat the checks below as possibilities—not a diagnosis—and use your stove’s manual before attempting model-specific repairs.
Before troubleshooting: identify the stove
Find the model and serial number, note the control-board style, and record any displayed code. Also note when the problem happens: during startup, while the stove is running, or during shutdown. The serial/certification label location varies by appliance; Englander says the label for pellet stoves is under the hopper lid.
Use Englander’s parts and manuals catalog to look up the correct documentation by product name or code. The 2023 Installation & Operation Manual for Pellet Units (46311A) is useful only where it matches your stove. Do not assume its troubleshooting steps or error-code guidance apply to every Englander model or control board.
Quick checks by symptom
Use the manual for your exact unit as the authority. The possible causes below come from Englander’s troubleshooting guidance; none by itself proves that a part has failed.

- ★★How To Determine If Your Pellet Stove Igniter is Working - The easiest and most common way to see if the igniter is working is to start your stove or grill and visually look for the orange glow; however, some appliances do not have a visual way to do this, so you may have to physically feel around in the burn pot after the stove has been on for a few minutes to “feel” for heat being generated. If you can see the glow or can feel the heat from the igniter, chances are that the igniter is actually working.
| Symptom | Safe first checks | When to stop |
|---|---|---|
| Lazy, dirty, or smoky fire | Check that the pellets are dry and suitable for the stove. Clean the firebox and other user-serviceable areas as described in the matching manual. If accessible without dismantling the appliance, check for an obvious obstruction in the air path or venting. | If the fire remains poor after the manual’s cleaning and fuel checks, or venting needs to be opened, repaired, or inspected, contact qualified service. |
| Stove will not start or shuts down | Record when it stops and any displayed code. The matching manual may direct checks of startup or ignition, sensor connections, vent obstruction, blower operation, or a vacuum hose or port. | Do not use a code chart from another model or board. If the code remains or the manual’s steps do not resolve the fault, contact Englander technical support. |
| Auger not turning or pellets not feeding | Depending on the model, the manual lists a jam or foreign object, carbon buildup, set-screw or auger-motor concerns, and vacuum-sensor-related checks as possibilities. Follow only the inspection or cleaning steps the manual identifies for the owner. | Do not disassemble the auger drive or diagnose wiring without the applicable repair procedure. Disconnect power before any repair attempt. |
| Smoke smell or dust in the house | An exhaust-connection leak is one possible cause identified in Englander’s manual. Stop using the stove if you suspect exhaust is entering the room, or if you notice backdraft or an installation problem. | Have the appliance and venting checked by a qualified professional. Do not apply sealant as a universal fix; the appropriate materials and repair depend on the unit and installation. |
| Unusual noise or a fuse problem | The manual lists foreign material, loose hardware, wiring, or a bound or shorting motor among possible causes. Note when the noise occurs and any accompanying code or shutdown. | Electrical diagnosis and component replacement should follow the exact manual’s repair procedure or be handled by a qualified technician. |
Clean the stove in the right order
Englander’s pellet-stove FAQ explains that cleaning the firebox shelf and heat-exchanger tubes can deposit ash in the exhaust chamber. Its guidance is to clean those areas first, then remove the exhaust-chamber clean-out covers, vacuum fly ash with an ash or utility-type vacuum, and reinstall the covers and screws. Use an ash-suitable vacuum; the FAQ does not establish that an ordinary household vacuum is suitable.
Englander describes weekly or bi-weekly maintenance depending on the stove, and annual exhaust-blower cleaning. These are not one schedule for every model: follow your appliance manual and the instructions for its vent pipe. Do not remove covers or reach into areas unless the manual identifies the task as owner maintenance.

Electrical safety and repair limits
Englander’s troubleshooting guide states: “WARNING: To avoid ELECTRICAL SHOCK always disconnect the unit from the power source BEFORE attempting any repair.” Disconnecting power does not make every repair appropriate for an owner. Use the exact manual’s procedure, and leave electrical testing, wiring, motor replacement, and uncertain component faults to qualified service.
