The right troubleshooting steps—and even the minimum flow needed to start heating—vary by model family. Use the manual for your exact unit; don’t assume another Eemax model’s threshold, reset method, or error-code meaning applies.
Why is my Eemax water heater not heating?
Start by noting whether water flows and whether the heater’s display or indicator is on. If this is a new installation or the unit was recently serviced, note that too: a supply problem or reversed plumbing connections may be relevant. The guidance below reflects specific Eemax manuals, not a universal procedure for every model.
If the display or indicator is off
For the model covered by Eemax’s Installation Instructions & Home Owners Manual, possible causes include an electrical supply or wiring issue and water flow below that model’s activation threshold. Check the exact manual for owner-safe checks. If the heater is newly installed, verify that the hot and cold plumbing connections are not reversed.
Activation flow is model-specific. The cited homeowner manual gives approximately 0.3 GPM for its covered model; Eemax’s Series Four T2T2 manual specifies a minimum of 0.85 GPM; and its AccuMix manual specifies 0.3 GPM. These figures apply to the models covered by those manuals—not to Eemax heaters as a whole.
#1 Best Overall
- Tank less water heaters provide a continuous Supply of hot water and only heats the water you need, when you need it
- Instant, consistent and endless hot water
- The most advanced, self-modulating technology available, meaning the unit will adjust how much energy needs to be input based on how much hot water is needed
- Compact size saves valuable storage space
- Before purchase and installation, Please verify that this EEM24013 is the correct size for your hot water needs
If the display is on but the water stays cold
Eemax’s homeowner manual lists an internal part failure as a possible cause and advises contacting technical assistance. Don’t open the heater or attempt an internal repair based on instructions for a different product family.
Why is the water not hot enough?
An electric tankless heater may be operating while delivering less heat than the fixture needs. Eemax says output depends on the incoming-water temperature, the desired outlet temperature, and total flow. A higher flow demand or colder incoming water can leave less temperature rise available at the outlet.

- Temperature output based on flow rate, 41°F Temp. Rise @ 0.5 GPM

Check temperature setting and demand
Confirm the set temperature using the controls and instructions for your model, then consider how many fixtures are drawing hot water at once. Eemax’s Help Me Choose guide uses 1.5–2.0 GPM as planning examples for both a residential shower and a residential kitchen sink. These are guide values, not measurements of your installation or guarantees of what a particular heater can supply.
Compare the actual demand, incoming-water temperature, and desired outlet temperature with the sizing information for your exact heater. If the water is too cool only when several fixtures run, demand may exceed the heater’s heating capacity.

Consider a flow restrictor only for a high-flow, low-temperature problem
Eemax recommends reducing flow with a flow restrictor in the specific case where flow exceeds the unit’s heating capacity and the water temperature is inadequate. Its resources index lists an Inline Flow Regulator Guide and parts IFR 1-2 and IFR 3-4. Confirm the correct part and application for your model before installing anything; these parts are not established as compatible with every Eemax heater.
Check for cold-water mixing or installation issues
The homeowner manual also lists excessive cold-water mixing, low supply voltage, and crossed wires on a new installation among possible reasons for inadequate temperature. Wiring and supply-voltage checks can expose hazardous conditions: leave those checks and any electrical work to a qualified professional following the model manual.
Rank #4
- Point-of-use, ideal for under the sink providing instantaneous hot water
- Easy installation with 120V outlet plug
- Adjustable temperature range (50°F to 140°F)
- Wall and floor mountable
- 1/2" NPT Connections
Why does my Eemax heater turn on and off, or have low flow?
Intermittent heating can occur when flow falls below the activation threshold for the exact model. A clogged fixture aerator or, on models whose manuals identify it, debris at the heater’s inlet filter screen can also restrict flow.
- Clean a faucet aerator if flow at that fixture is reduced; the homeowner manual notes that cleaning it can help maintain consistent flow.
- Check the inlet filter screen only as directed by the manual for your model. Some Eemax manuals specifically instruct users to ensure it is clear of debris.
- Measure or otherwise verify flow against the activation requirement in the matching manual rather than applying a brand-wide GPM figure.
If cleaning accessible fixture components does not resolve the problem, or the heater repeatedly loses heat despite steady flow, use the model’s troubleshooting instructions or contact Eemax technical assistance.

What do Eemax display codes or indicators mean?
Do not assume there is one error-code chart for all Eemax families. ProSeries XTP specifications describe error/fault notification and retained fault history, but that does not establish a universal code list or shared indicator meanings across products. Look up a displayed code in the exact product manual or ask Eemax technical support to interpret it.
When should you stop troubleshooting and call a professional?
Owner-level checks should stay within the limits of the model manual. Electrical supply, wiring, heating elements, high-limit devices, and internal components are not casual quick fixes. Some legacy Eemax manuals instruct users to turn off breakers before element checks or resetting certain high-limit devices; do not transfer those steps to another model or work on energized equipment.
Quick Recap
- Contact a qualified electrician or water-heater technician for suspected wiring, supply-voltage, or internal component faults.
- Use the exact model manual for any permitted cleaning or reset instructions, including the required power-isolation procedure.
- Identify the model before ordering an element, inlet screen, or other replacement part; these components and procedures can be model-specific.
