That makes “pencil-thin” a fair description, but “most stick-like ever” is not a measured industry ranking. The design also comes with trade-offs: its soft-roller head is aimed at hard floors, while runtime is limited to up to 30 minutes in Eco mode.
How thin is the Dyson PencilVac?
Dyson introduced the PencilVac in May 2025 and describes it as its slimmest vacuum. Its launch announcement gives the handle a diameter of 38 mm. Dyson’s comparison footnote says the main-body-width claim draws on independent third-party market coverage from April 2023 through December 2024; that is Dyson’s stated basis, not an independently verified ranking of every stick vacuum. The 38 mm dimension explains the product’s pencil-like appearance, but it does not tell you whether the vacuum is a better fit for your home. Capacity, floor-head design, runtime and the kinds of surfaces you clean matter just as much.
What makes its layout different?
Dyson says its 28 mm motor fits inside the 38 mm handle. The company specifies a motor speed of up to 140,000 rpm and suction of 55 air watts; these are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. Dyson’s launch announcement

Is the PencilVac good for carpets?
It is more naturally suited to hard floors than to carpet. TechRadar’s hands-on reviewer describes the soft rollers as effective for hard-floor use, but notes they lack bristles to agitate carpet fibers and loosen embedded dirt. If most of your home is carpeted, the PencilVac’s slim body alone is not a reason to choose it. Consider a vacuum with a carpet-oriented brush head, and compare independent testing on the pile types you have.

How long does the battery last?
Dyson lists up to 30 minutes of runtime. On its UK product page, that figure is for Eco mode; Dyson says actual runtime varies with power mode, floor type and attachments. It should therefore be treated as a best-case stated figure, not a guaranteed cleaning session. Dyson UK PencilVac product page
The US user manual describes a click-in battery and says an extra battery can extend cleaning time. The manual also identifies the Fluffycones cleaner head and magnetic dock among the included parts, and lists a Rotating combi-crevice tool and Hair screw tool. Who is the PencilVac for?
The PencilVac makes the most sense for someone who prioritizes a very slim handheld body and mainly cleans hard floors. Its shape does not make it a universal substitute for a conventional stick vacuum: the review notes the carpet limitation, small bin and limited runtime, which can matter more than diameter in a larger or carpet-heavy home. For above-floor cleaning, check the manual’s tool list and the regional product configuration rather than assuming every listed attachment comes in the box.
