DJI ROMO Robot Vacuum Launches in Europe—Can It Really Challenge Roborock?

DJI ROMO is a serious premium robot-vacuum newcomer with excellent navigation and mopping, but high pricing, selective availability, a young accessories ecosystem and imperfect corner cleaning keep Roborock ahead as the safer default.

DJI’s ROMO is a credible premium robot-vacuum competitor, but it is not yet the obvious Roborock replacement. Launched in selected European markets on October 28, 2025, DJI’s first all-in-one robot vacuum combines dual fisheye cameras, solid-state LiDAR, machine-learning obstacle recognition, automated mop washing and claimed suction of up to 25,000 Pa. Independent testing suggests it is genuinely strong at everyday vacuuming, mopping, mapping and obstacle avoidance. Its high launch prices, selective availability, newer accessories ecosystem and inconsistent corner cleaning still give established brands important advantages.

What launched, and where?

DJI launched the ROMO family in selected European markets on October 28, 2025. The initial range comprises three models: ROMO S, ROMO A and ROMO P. DJI described the products as premium vacuum-and-mop systems with self-emptying and automated mop-cleaning docks.

The launch was not a global release. By April 2026, ROMO had reached the U.K., but no official U.S. availability had been confirmed in the reviewed coverage. Availability, shipping, warranty territory and consumables remain country-dependent, so buyers should check their local DJI store rather than assume that a European listing can be shipped everywhere.

Model Launch price Positioning
ROMO S From €1,299 Standard model with the core ROMO platform
ROMO A From €1,599 Higher-tier design and feature configuration
ROMO P From €1,899 Flagship model with transparent styling and deodorizer features

Those are DJI Europe’s launch RRPs, not universal current prices. On August 16, 2026, the Belgian DJI store displayed the ROMO S at €799, ROMO A at €939 and ROMO P at €1,009 against higher reference prices. These were country-specific promotional prices and should not be treated as permanent European MSRPs. Prices also differed between the Belgian, Dutch and Maltese storefronts.

ROMO S, A and P: what is different?

Model Design and features Best suited to
ROMO S Standard configuration, opaque robot and dock in the configurations described by independent coverage, 25,000-Pa headline suction, anti-tangle roller brushes and automated dock functions. Buyers who want the ROMO navigation and cleaning platform at the lowest launch price.
ROMO A Mid-tier configuration with a transparent robot and opaque base station in Tom’s Guide’s model breakdown. It does not include the P’s deodorizer tank. Buyers who value the design and added model-level features.
ROMO P Transparent robot and base station, cleaning-solution and deodorizer dispensing, and the fullest feature set. Premium buyers, DJI enthusiasts and households wanting the showcase model.

The exact bundle can vary by market, so confirm the local product page before buying. Transparent panels are a design distinction, not evidence of better cleaning.

Why DJI says ROMO is different

ROMO’s most distinctive sales pitch is DJI’s use of sensing and navigation technology associated with its drones. The robot combines dual fisheye vision sensors with dual-transmitter solid-state LiDAR, machine-learning obstacle recognition and real-time path planning. DJI also claims low-light navigation capability.

DJI says ROMO can identify objects as small as 2 mm, including charging cables and playing cards. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every cable, toy or sock will be detected in every room. The practical test is whether the robot both recognizes obstacles and cleans close enough to them to avoid leaving large uncleaned borders.

Independent testing of the ROMO P by Tom’s Guide found accurate initial mapping and strong obstacle avoidance. The reviewer reported that the robot detected obstacles across the tested downstairs area and handled routine navigation impressively.

  • Robot Vacuum Self-Emptying, App, Alexa & Google Assistant for Pet Hair, Carpet & Hard Floor

ROMO also supports remote video and two-way audio through its onboard sensors. DJI says remote access uses two-factor authentication and encrypted transmission, and that the video feature can be disabled. A camera-equipped vacuum is still a privacy decision: owners should secure their DJI account, review app permissions and understand the region-specific privacy terms.

Cleaning performance: more than a suction number

DJI advertises up to 25,000 Pa of suction and up to 20 litres per second of airflow. It also says ROMO can automatically adjust suction and side-brush behavior when it detects cat litter or other scatter-prone debris.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those are maximum manufacturer specifications. A higher Pa figure does not automatically mean better pickup than a Roborock, Dreame or Ecovacs model. Real-world performance also depends on airflow through the system, brush design, carpet agitation, navigation patterns and how effectively debris is collected at walls.

ROMO uses two high-torque roller brushes that direct hair and debris toward a hollow central suction path. DJI markets the rollers as anti-tangle equipment for long hair. Buyers with pets should distinguish between resistance to hair wrapping around the brush and actual pickup of pet hair from carpet. The two are related but not identical.

Edge and corner cleaning

ROMO’s dual extendable edge-cleaning arms are one of its most unusual hardware features. DJI says the arms extend and retract using real-time mapping and edge algorithms so the robot can reach wall edges and corners.

ECOVACS DEEBOT T90 PRO Omni Robot Vacuum and Mop, 30000Pa Blast Suction
  • 𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬𝗣𝗮 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 — 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦: Weak suction leaves dirt behind. BLAST 30,000Pa high-airflow suction lifts dust, pet hair, and crumbs from carpets and hard floors in one go—cleaning faster with fewer repeat passes.
  • 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗕𝗕𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗢𝗭𝗠𝗢 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝟯.𝟬 — 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗣𝗔𝗗 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚: Pads wipe, they don’t scrub. OZMO ROLLER 3.0 uses a 10.6-inch self-washing roller with continuous, pressurized scrubbing to lift sticky spills, dried stains, and kitchen grime—removing mess instead of spreading it.
  • 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙-𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗭𝗠𝗢 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗢𝗣, 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗠𝗢𝗣 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥: Dirty pads re-soil floors. Pressurized self-washing with fresh-flow rinsing cleans the roller in real time, so it always mops with clean water—preventing streaks, residue, and secondary contamination from start to finish.
  • 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗘𝗗𝗚𝗘 𝟯.𝟬 — 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗛: Edges are often missed. TruEdge 3.0 extends the roller 0.6 inches beyond the body, gliding along baseboards and corners to remove dust lines where side brushes can’t scrub.
  • 𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗟𝗘 𝟰.𝟬 — 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗛𝗔𝗜𝗥 & 𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗦: Tired of hair tangles? BLAST airflow guides hair directly into suction, while ZeroTangle 4.0 helps prevent wrapping—less maintenance, more consistent cleaning power.

The independent result is more qualified. Tom’s Guide found that the ROMO P’s plastic spinning “fingers” sometimes missed dirt in corners. The reviewer occasionally compensated with higher power and repeat passes. That matters because corner performance is precisely where the mechanical arms are supposed to distinguish ROMO from ordinary premium robots.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In other words, the hardware is genuinely interesting, but the marketing claim should not be converted into a blanket promise of perfect corner pickup.

Mopping and the automated dock

ROMO uses dual circular mop pads, an onboard 164 ml water tank and a base station with clean- and dirty-water tanks. DJI says the dock uses four high-pressure water jets and a large waste outlet to wash the pads. The system can also automate drying, depending on the configuration and market.

Tom’s Guide found the ROMO P to be an effective mopper, including on muddy paw prints and everyday household grime. The dock can wash, rinse and clean the mop pads automatically. ROMO is designed to vacuum and mop as part of an automated routine rather than requiring the owner to remove and wash pads after every run.

DJI claims a base-station maintenance interval of up to 200 days. That does not mean the entire machine can be ignored for 200 days. Owners will still need to refill clean water, manage dirty water, replace dust bags, clean filters and sensors, inspect the rollers and pads, replenish solution and clear blockages. The accurate wording is “DJI claims up to 200 days of maintenance-free operation for the base-station cleaning system under its stated conditions.”

During recharging, the main and side brushes are raised to avoid dirt transfer onto the floor, delivering a quiet and pristine mopping experience.

The P model adds a deodorizer compartment and solution dispensing. Tom’s Guide noted that the cleaning-solution bottles use a proprietary shape, which can make replenishment less flexible than using a standard bottle or widely available third-party consumable.

Software and platform maturity

The DJI Home app provides maps, routines, cleaning zones and room-level controls. Early coverage suggested that its broader smart-home integration was less mature than established rivals’ platforms.

ROMO has continued to receive software development. The April 13, 2026 release notes list firmware V01.00.15.00 and DJI Home iOS and Android version 1.5.16, along with features and improvements including custom room naming, network diagnostics, virtual walls, low-clearance strategies, carpet-detection improvements, regional voice control and additional security settings.

That progress is encouraging, but a newer platform still has less of a long-term track record. Buyers should investigate firmware-update cadence, map reliability, account requirements and whether their preferred voice assistant or smart-home routines are supported in their country.

The strongest case for ROMO is its navigation package. DJI’s combination of fisheye vision, LiDAR and machine-learning recognition produced strong results in independent testing. The ROMO P was also reported to vacuum well on hard floors and medium-pile carpet, handle pet hair effectively and mop convincingly.

Roborock retains important practical advantages:

  • Market maturity: Roborock has a longer history, a larger installed base and broader consumer familiarity.
  • Accessories: Replacement bags, brushes, pads and filters are generally easier for established products to source, although availability still varies by model and country.
  • Value: ROMO’s launch price placed it firmly in premium territory. Discounted DJI pricing can change the comparison, but it must be compared with a competitor’s current street price rather than its full MSRP.
  • Smart-home confidence: Established platforms have had more time to refine apps, integrations and regional support.
  • Service: Warranty, repair and consumables support are easier to assess when a brand has a deeper local presence.

Neither brand should be judged by suction numbers alone. Compare actual pickup, carpet performance, corner cleaning, cable avoidance, pet-hair handling, mop washing and drying, solution costs, app controls, replacement-part supply and local support.

Who should buy DJI ROMO?

ROMO makes the most sense for buyers in supported European markets who want strong obstacle avoidance and mapping, automated mop care and the novelty of DJI’s navigation approach. It is also a reasonable early-adopter choice for DJI customers who value the brand’s app and industrial design, and for pet owners with mixed flooring who want a largely hands-off cleaning routine.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ROMO is a weaker choice for U.S. buyers seeking official local support, shoppers focused on the lowest cost per clean, households with many tight corners, or anyone who wants the broadest third-party accessory market. It is also a poor fit for buyers who assume that 25,000 Pa guarantees better cleaning than every Roborock or Dreame model.

Importing into the United States is particularly difficult to justify without a documented retailer, a clear warranty route and a dependable source for solution, bags, brushes and mop pads. Possible complications include duties, taxes, incompatible dock or power accessories, app-region restrictions and the absence of DJI support for an imported appliance.

Verdict

DJI ROMO is not a failed experiment or a mere drone-brand novelty. It is an impressive first-generation premium robot vacuum with strong navigation, effective everyday cleaning and a credible automated mopping system. Later testing supports a more positive view than the initial “not a Roborock rival” framing suggested.

But ROMO has not yet earned category-leader status. Its launch prices were high, its availability remains selective, its consumables ecosystem is younger, and its edge-cleaning arms did not eliminate corner misses in independent testing. The sensible conclusion is that ROMO is a serious premium alternative—not yet the default recommendation over Roborock.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a buyer, the decision should come down to the local deal and the ownership ecosystem. If ROMO is officially supported in your country and discounted substantially, its navigation and mopping strengths may justify choosing it. If warranty coverage, affordable consumables, mature software or predictable corner cleaning matter more, an established Roborock, Dreame, Shark or Ecovacs model remains the safer purchase.
