There is no safe, validated recipe here for building a dozen space heaters for indoor emergency use. Improvised heaters can create fire or carbon-monoxide hazards. If your home loses heat, focus on retaining body heat, moving to a safe warming location if needed, and using only a properly evaluated, commercially manufactured heater as directed.
What to do when your home loses heat

- Dress in layers and use blankets.
- Keep carbon-monoxide and smoke alarms working, with battery power or a backup power source.
- Identify a nearby place to warm up before severe weather or an outage makes travel difficult.
If you cannot keep the home safely warm, prioritize getting to a suitable warming location rather than trying to construct a heater.
