IKEA’s less-expected designs include a mirror that works on a wall or tabletop, a chair that opens into a bed, and a table drawer reachable from either side. The ten finds below span the IKEA PS 2026 press kit, a historical re-edition, and an IKEA Museum shop item—not one current printed catalogue. IKEA’s museum archive lets visitors explore catalogues across seven decades (IKEA Museum archive), while collections can be long-running or limited in scope (IKEA collections).
Unexpected IKEA products in the PS 2026 collection
The following designs are described in IKEA’s press kit for its PS 2026 collection, issued in 2025. A press-kit description does not confirm that a product is available in your country or currently in stock; check IKEA’s local site for current product names, listings, and availability (IKEA PS 2026 press kit).

1. A mirror that moves from wall to tabletop
Designer Ellen Hallström’s PS 2026 mirror is made to move between wall-mounted and tabletop use. IKEA says a supplier’s prototype was made in metal after a miscommunication, and Hallström liked the result. Her comment, “Wrong can be right if you’re open to it,” captures the design story behind a practical shift in how the mirror can be placed.
2. Shelving that puts its material on display
Friso Wiersma’s PS 2026 shelving unit is described as entirely solid, untreated pine, with red-painted shelf ends. Rather than hiding the wood behind a finish, the design makes the material part of the room’s look.

3. Vases with an expressive concept
Maria Vinka’s PS 2026 glass vases come in varied, expressive forms. IKEA frames the range with the idea of vases that “hear”; that is a design concept, not a claim that the glass objects literally listen.
4. A folding table with reinforced construction
Ola Wihlborg’s PS 2026 folding table is described as seating four, with legs that fold beneath the top for storage. Its layered pine construction is reinforced with a grid, an unusual structural detail for a table designed to fold away.

5. A chair that converts into a full-length bed
Matilda Lindstam Nilsson’s PS 2026 chair-bed moves from upright chair to recliner to full-length bed. The press kit says pocket springs provide mattress-level support. The collection’s designer Henrik Preutz describes the chair as inviting people to try different sitting positions rather than prescribing one.
6. A glass-door cabinet designed for display and cables
Ola Wihlborg’s PS 2026 glass-door cabinet has glass shelves, adjustable feet, and a cable outlet. Its handle cut-outs are designed to make locking easier. Together, those details make it a display cabinet that can also accommodate objects needing a cable connection.

8. A folding chair made to hang on the wall
Hallström’s PS 2026 folding chair can be hung on a wall when stored. IKEA points to its bold colors as a way for the chair to remain decorative while it is out of use.

A historical IKEA design with a new name
DYVLINGE, the 2024 re-edition of MILA
DYVLINGE is IKEA’s 2024 re-edition of the MILA easychair, designed by Gillis Lundgren in 1967. The name therefore connects a current-era release to an earlier IKEA design rather than describing an entirely new historical original. Availability depends on the market; IKEA’s global announcement discusses the collection and its country-dependent availability (IKEA Nytillverkad collection announcement).
A museum-shop find with a personal origin story
MJÖLKPALL, a stool rooted in farm work
The IKEA Museum shop lists MJÖLKPALL, a stool designed by Jonas Kamprad and Ingvar Kamprad in 2004, in red, black, white, and natural wood finishes. The shop page directs visitors to Älmhult, Sweden; it does not establish broad international online availability (IKEA Museum shop). The page attributes this explanation to IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad: “For this piece, which is actually the first one I’ve created myself, I was inspired by my very first job, milking the cows on the family farm.”

How to check whether an unusual IKEA find is available
- For a PS 2026 design: search the product name on IKEA’s website for your country. The press kit describes the collection but is not a local stock listing.
- For a historical re-edition: check the current local product page; a re-edition’s release and availability can vary by market.
- For a past limited-edition item: IKEA UK says previous special pieces may appear through its buy-back and resale Circular Hub, but does not guarantee that any specific item is there (IKEA UK limited editions).
- For a museum-specific product: distinguish the museum shop’s listing from general IKEA retail availability.
