Short answer: the phrase “fully protected, one-step solution that will last decades” is promotional wording, not proof that one Delta product can protect every building for decades. Waterproofing suitability depends on the structure, water exposure, design method, detailing, installation and future maintenance. Delta Membrane Systems currently presents a broader system range—Type A, Type B, Type C, combination waterproofing, damp proofing, basement drainage, flood resilience and ground-gas protection—alongside technical design support and registered installers. Treat the choice as a project-specific design decision, and require product specifications, a written design and the exact guarantee terms before work starts.
What the “single source accountability” claim does—and does not—establish
The exact title appeared in a Buildingtalk result dated 4 October 2021. Its search-result description identifies suitability as an important, often-overlooked consideration when selecting structural waterproofing. The article text was not available, so its headline cannot be treated as a technical specification, test result or warranty.

“Single source accountability” can be a useful procurement objective: one organisation may coordinate design advice, materials and installation rather than leaving the owner to reconcile conflicting responsibilities. It does not, by itself, create a legal guarantee that the building will remain dry. Accountability exists only to the extent set out in contracts, design documents, installation records and warranty terms.

Why suitability must come before choosing a membrane
A waterproofing system has to respond to the building and the water, not just to the product category. A basement with intermittent dampness has a different risk profile from a habitable room below a high water table. New construction, an existing building, a listed structure and a repair to a leaking joint each impose different constraints.
- Building condition: record cracks, joints, contaminated or friable surfaces, movement, previous coatings and any structural defects before selecting a system.
- Water exposure: establish whether the problem is ground moisture, flowing water, hydrostatic pressure, storm flooding, plumbing leakage or condensation. The source determines whether a barrier, drained cavity, structural water-resisting approach or a combination is appropriate.
- Use of the space: a storage area may tolerate a different residual risk from a bedroom, archive, plant room or electrical space.
- Consequences of failure: identify finishes, equipment, stored goods and health or operational consequences that would be affected by leakage.
- Access and maintenance: check whether drains, pumps, inspection points and replacement components will remain reachable after construction.
Do not approve a generic “one-step” specification until these questions have been documented. A technically sound system can still fail if the substrate is unsuitable, detailing is incomplete or water is allowed to bypass the intended layer.
Delta’s stated range: what each category means at selection stage
Delta lists several waterproofing and related protection categories. The list shows that the company does not present one universal method; it presents options that must be matched to the project. The descriptions below explain the decision question for each category, not a claim about a particular product’s performance.
Type A waterproofing
Type A is commonly understood as a barrier approach in which the waterproofing layer is intended to resist water reaching the internal structure or finishes. Confirm the substrate preparation, laps, penetrations, joints, repairability and consequences of damage. A barrier can be difficult to inspect once concealed, so the design should state how defects will be prevented and repaired.

- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
Type B waterproofing
Type B generally refers to water resistance provided by the structure itself, through integral concrete design and detailing. It is primarily a design-and-construction responsibility rather than a coating applied after the fact. Require the structural and waterproofing designer to define concrete quality, joints, waterstops, penetrations, crack-control assumptions and remedial procedures. Do not assume a Type B approach can be added to an existing leaking structure without substantial investigation.
Type C waterproofing
Type C commonly uses a drained cavity or channel so water that reaches the system is collected and discharged. Selection therefore depends on drainage routes, channels, sumps, pumps, alarms, power, backup arrangements and access for cleaning or replacement. The design must address what happens during a power cut, pump failure, blocked outlet or unusually high inflow.
Combination waterproofing
Combining methods can provide layers of risk control where the exposure or consequences of failure justify it. It also adds interfaces, sequencing and inspection requirements. The designer should identify which layer is primary, how the layers interact, where water is relieved and who is responsible for each detail. “More layers” is not automatically better if the interfaces are poorly designed.
Damp proofing
Damp proofing and structural waterproofing are not interchangeable terms. Damp proofing may control moisture under limited conditions, while waterproofing design must address the possibility of water pressure or flow. Ask the designer to state the intended exposure and internal environment rather than accepting a label alone.

Basement drainage
Drainage can be part of the waterproofing strategy or a response to water that has already entered. Check falls, collection points, discharge capacity, pump duty, alarms, non-return arrangements and maintenance access. A drainage system that cannot be inspected or kept operational is a long-term risk, even when the membrane itself remains intact.
Flood resilience
Flood resilience addresses the effects of flooding and the ability to recover with less damage. It may involve more than keeping water out: service locations, sacrificial finishes, cleanable materials and safe isolation of utilities can matter. Establish the flood mechanism and expected depth before deciding whether a waterproofing-only response is sufficient.
Ground-gas protection
Ground-gas protection is a separate hazard-control requirement. Radon, methane or other gases require a site assessment, continuity of the gas-control layer and sealed penetrations, with ventilation or monitoring where specified. Do not treat a membrane selected for liquid water as automatically suitable for gas protection; obtain the relevant product documentation and design details.
How to test the decades-long service-life promise
No retrieved source supplies a verified service-life figure, laboratory result, independent test or product-specific warranty proving that a generic Delta solution will last decades in every structure. “Last decades” should therefore be treated as a claim requiring evidence, not as a design assumption.

- Identify the exact product and system. Record product names, thicknesses, accessories, primers, tapes, drainage components and any required compatible materials. A company-wide statement is not a substitute for a product datasheet.
- Match the stated use to the project. Check the permitted substrate, water pressure or exposure, temperature range, movement assumptions, chemical resistance and internal environment. Require the designer to confirm suitability in writing.
- Examine durability evidence. Ask for published test methods, test conditions, ageing information and the limits of those tests. A test on one component does not prove the durability of an entire installed assembly.
- Read the warranty as a contract. Establish duration, beneficiary, geographic scope, covered defects, exclusions, maintenance duties, transferability, inspection requirements and the claims process. Confirm whether labour, removal of finishes, investigation and consequential damage are included or excluded.
- Check installation controls. Obtain the installer’s registration status, method statement, inspection and hold points, weather or substrate limits, photographic records and handover documents. A durable material can be compromised by poor detailing or concealed damage.
- Plan for maintenance. Include inspection intervals, pump and alarm testing, drain cleaning, access panels and procedures after alteration or drilling. Define who owns these duties after handover.
If a supplier cannot provide these documents, the evidence supports only a limited statement: it offers a range of waterproofing products and services. It does not support a universal decades-long outcome.
Questions to put in the design brief and contract
| Decision area | Information to require | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Exposure | Source of water, expected pressure or flow, flood mechanism and seasonal conditions | Determines whether a barrier, structural resistance, drainage or a combination is appropriate |
| System boundary | Drawings showing floors, walls, joints, penetrations, thresholds and interfaces | Leaks commonly occur at transitions rather than in an undisturbed field area |
| Materials | Exact product schedule, compatible accessories and installation limits | Prevents substitutions that invalidate the design or guarantee |
| Responsibility | Named designer, installer, inspector and guarantee issuer | Clarifies who must correct a defect and who bears each duty |
| Drainage | Capacity, discharge route, pumps, alarms, backup power and access | Shows how collected water will be managed during faults and maintenance |
| Handover | As-built drawings, photographs, test records, manuals and maintenance schedule | Allows future owners and contractors to preserve the system |
| Warranty | Term, exclusions, conditions, claims route and scope of remedial work | Separates a marketing statement from enforceable protection |
Using Delta’s technical support and installer network responsibly
Delta says its technical consultants provide design support and that registered installers operate nationwide. This can simplify coordination, but support does not remove the client’s need for an independent project brief and contract review.
- Ask whether the consultant is designing the complete waterproofing strategy or advising only on Delta products.
- Request calculations, drawings and written assumptions, not just a product recommendation.
- Confirm the installer’s registration, training, scope and supervision arrangements for the specific system.
- Obtain the proposed guarantee before appointment, including the issuer and every exclusion.
- Have the contract state what happens if the specified product is unavailable, substituted or installed outside the method statement.
- Arrange independent inspection at critical stages where the waterproofing will be concealed.
A “single source” arrangement is strongest when the contract makes interfaces explicit. It is weakest when a supplier’s general service description is mistaken for a promise to accept every design, installation and maintenance responsibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteInstallation and handover checklist
- Survey the structure and record defects, moisture sources and constraints.
- Define the internal environmental requirement and consequences of leakage.
- Select the waterproofing category or combination through a written design.
- Approve product data, compatible accessories and a detailed method statement.
- Inspect substrate preparation, joints, penetrations and drainage before covering them.
- Record photographs, batch information, weather or site conditions and any deviations.
- Test drainage, pumps, alarms and discharge routes where they form part of the strategy.
- Collect as-built drawings, guarantees, operation manuals and maintenance instructions at handover.
- Schedule routine inspections and keep records for the duration of the building’s use.
Common failure points and practical responses
The wrong system was selected for the water condition
Symptom: dampness or flowing water persists despite an apparently complete installation. Response: stop cosmetic repairs, trace the water source and obtain a revised design that addresses pressure, flow and discharge rather than adding another unverified coating.

Details were omitted
Symptom: leakage appears at corners, joints, service penetrations or wall-to-floor transitions. Response: compare the as-built work with the detail drawings, document concealed conditions and require a specified repair method before finishes are reinstated.
Drainage was treated as fit-and-forget
Symptom: alarms, pumps or channels fail after handover, or access is impossible. Response: restore inspection access, test the complete discharge route and assign a written maintenance responsibility.
The guarantee is broader in conversation than in writing
Symptom: a claim is rejected because maintenance, substrate condition, third-party work or consequential loss is excluded. Response: review the written terms before installation and negotiate unclear exclusions while the contract can still be changed.

How to make a defensible decision
Use Delta’s range as a starting point for a documented design conversation, not as a substitute for one. Give the designer the site investigation, intended use, water evidence and failure consequences. Require a drawing-led specification that names the system, interfaces, drainage and maintenance obligations. Then align the installer’s method statement and inspection records with the written guarantee.
If the project cannot obtain product-specific durability evidence and clear warranty terms, describe the proposal accurately as a supplier-supported waterproofing system rather than as a proven decades-long, one-step solution. That wording protects the decision-maker from relying on a headline that the available evidence does not substantiate.
