If your Costway ice maker has power but is not making ice, start by finding its model number and checking the manual for that exact machine. Costway sells countertop and undercounter designs with different water supplies, drains, controls, and cleaning instructions; a blinking light or cleaning method on one model is not a universal guide.
For a blinking red “Ice” indicator, first note the model and the exact light pattern. One Costway manual describes the ice indicator flashing when its pump cannot draw water, but the available instructions do not establish a universal Costway error-code chart. Work through the water and drain checks below only if they match your unit’s manual.
Identify your Costway ice maker before troubleshooting
Find the model number on the appliance label and use it to locate the matching instruction manual. Before changing anything, record the indicator light or flash pattern and check how the machine gets water and drains.
- Water supply: Does your model use a manual-fill reservoir or a water connection?
- Drain: Does it have a drain cap, a drain hose, or another arrangement?
- Controls and cleaning: Does its manual describe a particular warning light, cleaning procedure, or self-cleaning cycle?
These details differ among Costway models. For example, one two-in-one countertop product’s Q&A discusses a bottom-of-tank filter and pump, while a separate portable countertop listing describes manual filling, a drain hole, an ice-full sensor, and self-cleaning. Those are product-specific details, not features to assume on another unit. See the Costway product information for the relevant model and confirm procedures in its manual.

Check the water supply and drain
Confirm the unit has water
If your model has an add-water warning, check the reservoir or water supply as its manual directs. An empty reservoir is not the only possible cause: one Costway manual also lists a blocked water screen and pump malfunction. If the water screen is accessible for routine cleaning, follow the manual’s instructions; do not dismantle the machine to reach internal components.
Check the drain arrangement
For the model covered by Costway’s countertop instructions, the drain cap must be inserted before operation. The manual warns that the appliance may not work properly without it: “Before we start making ice, please make sure the water drain cap has been inserted into the appliance; otherwise it will not work properly.” Read the matching Costway manual hosted by The Home Depot and verify that this advice applies to your unit. Other models may use a different drain setup.

Restart only as the manual directs
After refilling the reservoir or cleaning a screen, use your model’s restart instructions. In one manual, a pump that cannot draw water causes the machine to stop automatically, turns on the add-water indicator, and makes the ice indicator flash. That behavior is specific to that manual; do not use it to diagnose every Costway ice maker.
Clean or descale only by the model’s instructions
A Costway countertop manual recommends cleaning the unit before first use or after a long period without use. It does not establish one descaling recipe for every Costway machine. If your manual does not specify a cleaning agent or descaling procedure, do not guess or apply a chemical recommended for a different model; ask Costway support for instructions for your model.

Do not open the refrigeration system or remove evaporator plates as a troubleshooting step.
Know when to contact Costway support
If the model’s basic water, drain, and cleaning checks do not resolve the problem—or you suspect a pump or internal-part failure—stop troubleshooting and contact Costway support with your model and order information. One Costway product Q&A directs customers with pump concerns or parts questions to support, and one manual recommends repair for pump malfunction. Neither establishes that a particular replacement pump, filter, sensor, or other part is available for every model. Do not buy a generic replacement part without confirming compatibility with Costway.

Drain and store the machine for long periods
For long-term storage, one Costway manual instructs owners to drain the water system and leave the door open to allow circulation and help prevent mold and mildew. Drainage steps vary by design, so follow the instructions for your specific unit rather than assuming it has the same cap, hose, or procedure as another Costway machine.
